Ah what a pain Sad it is lovely

UntamedShrew · 04/12/2016 18:02

Thank you Aurora - I'll give the LRP cleanser a go, for a morning cleanse. Definitely not afraid of snail muck Grin I have ordered the steam cream on Bo's recommendation but hadn't thought of them for a serum too, I guess I didn't think the snail thing was real/potent enough to make an effective serum. But if you rate it I'll give it a go.

I think it was a Paula's choice thread where everyone was very anti-fragrance. When I say very I mean hugely! They thought it pointless using anything with fragrance as it would do more harm than good. But my skin definitely preferred the Clarins oil to any oil I've tried since.

Loving this thread. I now need a cream blusher....Blush

Indecisivejo · 04/12/2016 18:09

Can anyone tell me if it's ok to mix my hylamide sub q serum in to my moisturiser or do I have to apply it neat on my skin before moist??

UntamedShrew · 04/12/2016 18:24

Why do you want to mix it up Jo? Is it for speed or do you prefer the feel of it that way?

I'd always do them separately- I tend to do one stage then do my teeth, do the next then get changed, do the next then sort my hair out, etc. Just so each one has its best shot without being diluted if that makes sense (but as I said I'm no scientist!)

botemp · 04/12/2016 18:42
was the LE video (I think) that shows the Aerin blusher. I like that and the Illuminating Bronzer level 1, the best ever bronzer for pale skin (nowhere to be found anymore sadly), they're both brilliant. I think the Aerin brand never took off because it was quite expensive but the packaging, whilst looking lovely, is cheap plasticky and not weighted down like similar products at that price level. Also it tried to appeal to that well kept WASPY preppy NY look (basically Aerin Lauder), not so showy/sexy and I think more suitable to a limited skin tone range. It's a shame because it was a very nicely curated collection (I think the rose lip balm was also much loved) but it just didn't reach the market it wanted to I think. The fragrances do sell well it seems.

That is the one hollin, and now I want to go splurge at Selfridges...

jo, if even the toleriane fluid (so not the ultra fluid to avoid confusion) irritated you I think squalane would be one to avoid. It's very frustrating, especially on here sometimes when people think everyone should just suffice with some Aldi moisturiser and you're a fool to spend more than that on skincare, it really isn't that simple Angry.

Dulci, if I didn't loathe London around Christmas time (far too busy everywhere) I'd be very tempted to pop over to peruse the Surratt offerings it makes economic sense in my head if it avoids me buying a lot of duds, honest. I like the look of the lip crayons and have heard good things about their lipsliques too. In the US they've just released a whole new set of colours for blushes and eyeshadows so I'll be curious to see when they come over here. It seems they also don't play the social media PR game so there isn't much info on them out there but what is, is thankfully honest.

It was me with the Stila palette, not that I have it but that I heard it was good, always good to know my sources are reliable except now I want one Grin.

I've liked the lancome 24h too but unfortunately it oxidises on me during the day and it ends up a bit orange, was in the summer though, thankfully only ever sampled it but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Sorry, rum, I'd avoid. As a rule I don't trust any of the discount offerings on things like groupon and those secret sale sites when it comes to skincare, it's just not worth the risk and not like you'll be able to RP if it actually turns out to be good as those things are made for discount sales. Also, there is absolutely no evidence that Collagen does anything for the skin, whether used topically or ingested.

Haha shrew, the PC fanatics are terrifying. I think in concept Paula Begoun has a good outset, she wants people to be informed of what they're buying, what the different ingredients mean, etc. However, her cherry picking of certain scientific studies is very troublesome (the anti-alcohol stuff is based on studies performed on internal bodily tissues, not skin, many people do, however, find alcohol drying and is therefore somewhat undesirable in skincare).

I'm not sure about mixing them, jo. Why would you want to? I'd think it wouldn't penetrate as effectively when in a heavier base, but perhaps that's desirable as it (hopefully) sinks in over a longer time period throughout the day? Then again it could end up irritating as it has nowhere to go. You'd have to try and see and hold tight for possible consequences.

Indecisivejo · 04/12/2016 18:48

I just wanted to because I'm lazy lol but I will carry on applying it neat before my moisturiser (I know it only takes seconds really lol)
I couldn't brush teeth between applying serum and moisturiser because my skin would feel too tight I have to apply straight after.

Pupsiecola · 04/12/2016 19:05

Indecisive I get that tightness too.

I use the TO caffeine eye stuff in the mornings usually. At the same time as the Vit C as I keep them both in the fridge.

Thank you bo for the video on the hair mask. I washed hair in shower then towel dried and wrapped in towel for 10 minutes whilst I cleansed face and applied vitamin C (not applied first thing as usual as went for 10k run so did the water rinse + oil + SPF this morning). Then I rinsed hair mask out and have let hair dry naturally as not been out again. Feels soft and not very frizzy (usually straighten it with large round brush). Will have a go next weekend when blow drying.

This video came up on my You Tube for some reason. I found it interesting though and others may too.

Bo I'll actually be within spitting distance of Liberty's twice this week so I may go and have a peek at Surratt. I appear to be on a perfect lipstick mission at the moment... as well as everything else, ha.

botemp · 04/12/2016 19:32

Yes, it is very softening. I haven't tried the rest of the prickly pear range (only received a sample of the balm once which is just like any old balm, works fine in the ends of the hair but nothing amazing) but I hear the shampoo/conditioner are supposed to be quite good too. I use the blueberry cleansing milk shampoo (it's a bit of a hybrid between a conditioner and shampoo that's very nourishing but washes well) and the rose conditioner. Occasionally I use the sea salt scrub shampoo which works really well to clear out all the gunk and possible product build up (this does have SLS in it) while being a nice treatment for the scalp. The volumising rose spray is also lovely from them. It is all pricey but if you get the larger sizes it works out reasonable (400ml lasts me about a year, conditioner probably longer) and it's definitely cheaper in euros I've noticed.

It's difficult with SLS free shampoos though, there's been such a surge in demand for them but I find that those SLS free ones on the more budget end tend to contain other less desirable ingredients, all they care about is the SLS free label (much like the paraben free label) but it doesn't mean it's any better (ingredient wise) than the SLS stuff.

Indecisivejo · 04/12/2016 19:54

Botemp what is your skincare routine?

botemp · 04/12/2016 20:10

I added it to that thread you started a while back, though it's changed somewhat now. So currently:

AM

Aurelia Probiotic Miracle Cleanser
(LRP Water spray to mitigate some of the effect of the very hard tap water here)
TO Vit C
Verso Super Eye Serum
Benton Steam Cream
Kose Sekkisei SPF

Sometimes I add in a Japanese HA lotion if I'm feeling a bit tight after cleansing.

PM

Muji Sensitive Oil Cleanser
Kibiki Premium Facial Wash
(LRP Water spray to mitigate some of the effect of the very hard tap water here)
on alternate nights BR P50W/PC BHA 2%
TO Niacinamide 10%
on alternate nights TO Advanced Retinoid 2%
Usually an oil (MV Organics Rose booster, 9 Oil Tonic, Jojobo, or a Japanese Rice Bran Oil. Currently sampling the Vintner's Daughter but I use this on its own, no moisturiser, no actives)
Benton Steam Cream

I have become less sensitive lately, didn't think it would ever happen but there's hope after all. I credit it to Niacinamide mostly, had a routine with products high in it for a consistent amount of time since venturing into Asian skincare and that's made the most difference, very happy with TO version. I also get on quite well with most essential oils (citrus ones are the only ones that are hit or miss).

Dulci, can I give you a long list of things to look at and to photograph Grin

AuroraPolaris · 04/12/2016 21:27

Enid the cold water just helps circulation and tightens the skin a bit. Don't know why I started doing it - just felt right. It makes a massive difference. In any case - very hot water (as opposed to warm) is certainly to be avoided. It's dehydrating and I think too much/ too often of it can eventually damage fine veins. People with eczema are actually told not to take very hot showers.
Same for hair - try to do the last rinse of your routine (say conditioner or mask) with cold/ er water as the hair will retain more moisture.

Bo doing one of the Narüko Rose HA masks tonight. Wasn't super impressed last time I used it - it's good enough but not as good as the Magnolia or my new favorite - so I'm curious how I'll feel about it this time. Smells lovely though...
I'm so so happy to read you feel your skin is less sensitive. Quite an achievement!!!

TO update - I'm very pleased with the Matryxil after a few days of use. I like the gloopy texture and it feels very hydrating and skin seems/ feels quite plump. Mind you in the AM I apply the Benton Black Snail cream over it and in the PM Sulwhasoo GOA ampoule and over that oil... and then day cream or night pack Grin

FreeButtonBee · 04/12/2016 21:40

Botemp. Do you rate the muji oil cleanser? I was in there yesterday (for cotton wool -LOVE their cotton wool pads) and I was tempted but resisted as I am mostly attempting to use toiletries up rather than buy more!

botemp · 04/12/2016 22:37

I wasn't all that impressed with the Naruko Rose Night Gelly either, think the magnolia line is much more exciting than the rose one. Yes, I wasn't quite aware Niacinamide helped with sensitivity too when I started targeting that, mostly wanted it for the skin tone evening and pore tightening so it's a wonderful side effect.

Next time I need to make an order with Deciem I'll be getting the Matrixyl to try to, I was already suitably intrigued and can probably fit it in on non Retinoid nights.

I like the Muji cleanser a whole lot, Free, it cuts through makeup like a champ and emulsifies beautifully without being too drying. I prefer it to the DHC cleansing oil (only like a more expensive Shu Uemura Ultim8 CO better) but did it look like this

Fantastic Skincare And Where To Find It
AuroraPolaris · 04/12/2016 22:47

Tonight the rose mask was lovely - very hydrating and even slightly plumping. Maybe because I applied the Matryxil before? Let's see if I can still sense remnants of the loveliness in the morning Wink

hollinhurst84 · 04/12/2016 22:48

I'm waiting for the ordinary delivery, colourpop delivery, heimish cleansing balm, and secret key 24K moisturiser Grin

Interestingly I like the secret key and on googling it has HA, niaci and EGF in

botemp · 04/12/2016 22:53

But does it have gold in it Hollin, don't get Aurora and I started on the gold Casmara masks....

hollinhurst84 · 04/12/2016 23:16

Yes, I can't remember the percentage but it has actual gold flakes!

EnidButton · 04/12/2016 23:35

Now I want a moisturiser with gold bits in it.

Aurora That makes sense thank you. I'll definitely avoid the hot water from now on. I already do a cold rinse on my hair and avoid very hot showers. No idea why I've been treating the skin on my face differently in that regard.

whyistherumgone · 05/12/2016 00:23

Thanks bo I will avoid! I've never ordered beauty off a discount site before and it just caught my eye but I was dubious so thought I'd ask.

I will scroll back through the thread to see what HA you recommend.

FreeButtonBee · 05/12/2016 07:09

Hmm, not sure bo. I was in the kings road muji which does have a fair bit of the line and defo some of. The sensitive stuff.

Also called into Shiro. Very beautiful. Very expensive. Lots of ferments and sale stuff. DH was needless to say baffled 😄
