Hope that's an OK unilateral decision!

Someone said something up thread that made me laugh. Don't know who. or what. How dreary of me to even mention it.

Successful family day out up Londo for Dh's birthday. Dd1 asked me 'Are there any more food?' So teen-y

DH seems to have enjoyed himself. Woke up to a garden full of these mushrooms and we both sang about crazy mushrooms to the tune Of Crazy Horses and I remembered CV posting last year about her and her DH singing along to something and how I said I couldn't imagine it but maybe we're getting there.

herbaceous · 13/11/2016 18:15

DP, DS and I are having jolly japes singing along to this: [https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tube+station+song Tube Station song]] in which a very funny young man has made a song incorporating all the tube stations in London. DS has printed out the lyrics, with chords, and I'm trying to accompany him on the piano. Limited success as yet.

On a slightly more high-brow musical tip I sang Up West today. Rutter's requiem in the Hinde Street Methodist Church. Very lovely. And I had a little wander back through Johnny LouLou's to get inspiration for my forthcoming birthday. Now DP has gone away for a week, leaving me on homework duty.

I always think our house is grown up, until I go to someone else's and think 'gosh, this house is very clean and tidy'. As I think this about most houses, I think perhaps ours is dirty and untidy.

Attempting to flog off half my wardrobe to gain funds. Limited success.

MrsWobble3 · 13/11/2016 18:33

I think my house passes for grown up in term time. This is a result of only being occupied by dh and I, both of whom are out at work most of the time and a cleaner coming in 3x a week. It all goes wrong in the holidays though when 3 lots of dd detritus is deposited in the hall 'temporarily' as taking it upstairs to their bedrooms is obviously too great a task following the arduous chore of having been driven home.

CointreauVersial · 13/11/2016 18:35

Strops - sounds like an excellent day with DD - definitely an "up" to balance the "downs". Loving DS's rejection of university life on account of inadequate bedroom size and lack of debauched partying. Grin

Monty - good to hear DD is having a nice time with friend.....DD2 went through similar problems last year, and has re-emerged with a totally new (and nicer) set of friends. Having said that, she is a resilient soul and didn't let it get to her too much. The schools are pretty wise to it all, and usually offer plenty of support.

BD - sorry you are so down....we are here if you need to download. Flowers

GG - I've come to the conclusion I wasn't miserable enough in my youth for Leonard. Grin

Nothin highbrow about my day; I've just returned from a shopping trip to Bluewater. Much money was spent on bedroom accessories for the DDs (just how much is bedlinen?! Shock), although I did pick up one of those ultra light down jackets from Uniqlo for myself (DM was wearing one the other day, and I thought it looked brilliant, AND it fits under less warm coats as a cosy lining).

DSis has the most grown-up house I know. Huge, Edwardian, detached, mature garden, everything matching, crisp, neat... this place isn't bad, but it's a bit rough around the edges. If we had more money to throw at it, it would help.

Cremolafoam · 13/11/2016 18:42

Waf , that's lovely, and a good sign.

Loved Mr Trebus, Mrs F. Dh's shed office, has a dh shaped hole for him to squeeze into due to stacked books, magazines, computer toss and mouldering coffee cups, very much in some kind of personal tribute to Mr Trebus. I can't even speak about it to him any more, as it makes my eyeballs itch.

Stropps, I hope The Student has made her merry way back to halls.Wink

NUFC69 · 13/11/2016 18:47

I have a grown up house, but it's not glossy (that's what happens when the DC move out) and the conservatory is full of the DGC's toys. DD took DGD2 to a party today at what she described as a footballer's wife's house.

I have been thinking of all of you with differing problems: they don't call us (you) the sandwich generation for no reason. I was really pleased to hear about your lovely day out yesterday, Stropps. There are so many wise words on here, Addle Flowers. Glad you coped with the weekend and enjoyed some of it, MI. Hatty, the photos of Paris are so sad; I can't believe it's a year since Bataclan.

Breakfast with the family was lovely and it was particularly nice that it was only my DC with the grandchildren. I am very fond of my SiL and DiL, but i also enjoy the rare occasion when they stay at home/have a lie in, etc.

I can't believe all these folk who don't know Leonard Cohen; I think my favourite song is Bird on a Wire, but it does change according to my mood.

Collymollypuff · 13/11/2016 18:48

Oh, you mean a house like mine MI. Lololololololol.

Collymollypuff · 13/11/2016 18:50

Praps we could have a crepey gang where we go and do up each other's houses. or at least clean them a bit

herbaceous · 13/11/2016 19:18

< double take >

Mrs W - did you say a cleaner THREE times a week? No wonder it's spotless! There's three of us, a shedding aged cat, and no cleaner. And very little cleaning done by me.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 13/11/2016 19:23

My house is quite grown up - but dh can take a lot of the credit for that - he would live in spartan minimalist chic if he could - I'm the opposite - we average out somewhere in the middle...

Am organising a fundraising dinner this week - for a 100 people - thought it was quite organised but am deep in last minute anxiety and panicking! Wish me luck (I need it).

Sorry to hear you're having a horrid time BD - you are not alone not that that helps in itself - but you are not. X

Come now, GGG. You are too modest. Your house is FARKING AMAZING.

CointreauVersial · 13/11/2016 19:35

Our cleaner(s) come once a week - I can't always see where they've been, but I sure as hell notice it when they haven't, IYSWIM.

The DDs have a new craze - kinetic sand. Yes, they are 13 and 15. They have set up an Instagram account and are making and posting videos of sand being moulded, cut, played with etc. They have over 3,000 followers already, and one of their videos has been viewed 500,000 times. Yes, that's 500,000; I have no idea what that is in roman numerals. The downside: the house is covered in bloody sand.

CointreauVersial · 13/11/2016 19:38

Yes, GGG's house is very very gorgeous.

Collymollypuff · 13/11/2016 19:51

I WANT A GROWN UP HOUSE

Collymollypuff · 13/11/2016 19:58

Would dd like the M&S advent calendar? What's in it? They had it in store.

Stropperella · 13/11/2016 20:01

I don't want a grown up house. Which is just as well, as I am not in danger of getting one any time soon. The hamster, fish, and pile of guitars, amps and speakers in the dining room do not speak of adulthood. They tell a sorry tale of arrested development and chaos. As does does the dog who actually tried to request some lunch by sitting on the dining table. A step too far, even by my very low standards.
The snottery student is fast asleep on the sofa and will clearly not be getting a train tonight. But she did say she is starting a new law module on Tues, so has to go back tomorrow. Hmm

Stropperella · 13/11/2016 20:02

Molly, if your dd likes makeup and facial unguents, she will like the m&s calendar. Dd was very pleased with it.

Cremolafoam · 13/11/2016 20:03

I've already told GGG that I'm moving in.Grin

MM three (3iii) times a week? I fired my cleaner over a year ago, as I was pretty convinced she was lighting a fag, swigging tea and watching Cash in The Attic and just pushing dust from A to B. And throwing a gallon of domestos down the loo.Angry

We have now disposed of the ugly sofa and I have rearranged the furniture. Looks a bit better, but need to get the 'art' up on the wall to see if it can be brought together. Very Doubtful.Hmm

hattymattie · 13/11/2016 20:03

GG's house is simply gorgeousEnvySmile.
I would also like an M&S calendar - Cocoa keep yours.

hattymattie · 13/11/2016 20:05

I'm getting vertigo watching the Ibex!

herbaceous · 13/11/2016 20:09

Not quite sure if this applies to anyone [ahem], but this Sesame Street rendition of 'Hole in my Bucket' is oddly reminiscent of various 'incompetent husband' threads and conversations I've had/seen...

CointreauVersial · 13/11/2016 20:11

A fruitful evening on eBay. Have now purchased bed, bedside table and desk for DD2 for considerably less than we made on the sale of her monster high level bed/desk/sofa thingy. Desk is from a seller near DSis, so the DDs and I are planning a dual-purpose trip later in the week, to collect the desk and meet her oh-so-cute new miniature dachshund puppy.

Keep the calendar, Cocoa. DD1 is outraged that I've bought one for myself and not for her but concedes, as it's M&S, it's most likely filled with "stuff for wrinkles and shit".

Cremolafoam · 13/11/2016 20:15

Me too Hattie. Very dizzy making.Grindh reckons they have Velcro feet.

Cremolafoam · 13/11/2016 20:19

CV that's what I'm thinking of getting -re Dog.Smile
