Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

Oh and I too just watched the LE video. I also like the look and have some very nice dark lipsticks lying aroundSmile
Got one of those MAC Vamplify vey dark ones, yum...

botemp · 13/11/2016 20:29

I used the skin raw mixed with bit of cooked pumpkin (just pureed till smooth). Most of the online recipes say to use cooked puree (from a can Shock lazy Americans ) but I figured fresh would be more potent so did a mix of both and froze the rest in 1 tbsp portions. You can also add cinnamon but it wasn't recommended for sensitive skin.

If I remember correctly you had your SC for a while before using right, Aurora, was it still absolutely clear when you first used it? TO Vit C is a bit like the a primer as it does that filmy thing, I have actually been going without base most of this week, maybe I'm being a bit unfairly hard on the TO Vit C...

AuroraPolaris · 13/11/2016 20:33

Yes bo that whole SH article was a bit strange.....

botemp · 13/11/2016 20:35

And Hollin, when you go out to get your riding boots they better not end up looking like that La Mer jar! A minder will no longer be a voluntary option at that point Grin.

botemp · 13/11/2016 20:37

Missed the dark lipstick bit... I've actually been hankering after that Black Lace Rabbit lipstick even though it sounds like a sex toy from Lipstick Queen but am really anxious about purchasing it sight unseen and have yet to see someone on S&B go mad about it.

hollinhurst84 · 13/11/2016 20:38

I have a budget to stick to Grin so we shall see what I get

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 20:48

LE videos are dangerous. She makes me wan all the things. I'm extremely pale (cool toned) with dark brows and hair too so I'm loving the dark berry Wintery lipsticks atm. Bought two yesterday that I've yet to try out but the colours are good. Rimmel lasting finish (one of the Kate Moss ones) in 30, whatever that is, and another Chanel coco shine in Emotion. The Rimmel one is a really dark vampy cool berry shade, very pigmented and smells of cinnamon, (I think. Something Wintery and spicy anyway). The Chanel is a really nice cool berry, not as dark but probably the one I'll be wearing all Winter. Oh and Korres wild rose lip butter, same deep but not dark berry.

I know this is supposed to be a skincare thread Blush But my skin looks awful today and I'm feeling very thankful for make up. Due on tomorrow so not surprising.

botemp · 13/11/2016 21:03

I think LE is actually pretty good at not pushing everything at you but when she starts demoing things then I want it all. It doesn't help that we're of similar colouring.

I have the Chanel Coco Shine in Confident stupid name which is very wearable and berry-ish (well on my lips anyhow they are a bit dark I feel). It's what I wear most these days. Might have been a limited edition though.

wiltingfast · 13/11/2016 21:13

Bo, I got the extreme ones. V brave Grin it had a mix of acids and google seemed to think it was the best one. How the hell we ever shopped without Google, I don't know!

Used them tonight but avoided cheek area. Stung a bit but the toleriane fluid feels much more moisturising tonight.

When people talk about the hylamide, is it the one in boots or is it something else?

wiltingfast · 13/11/2016 21:14

Holl, your skin looks super !

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 21:16

It doesn't help that we're of similar colouring.

Yes, I think this is why I like her blogs and vlogs too. Easy to judge which shades will suit. Think her skin type is similar to mine as well. Plus she seems honest iykwim. Like she wouldn't reccommend something just because she felt she had to. (Apart from the Lancôme stuff obviously, but that's understandable.)

AuroraPolaris · 13/11/2016 22:41

Well the other day someone asked me if I had some tissues in my bag and I said I didn't but I did have four lipsticks (ok, that was including two lip balmy-type options. I think he thought I was a bit crazy... but I'm sure you guys don't WinkGrin

AuroraPolaris · 13/11/2016 22:49

bo you are right I did have the SC for a bit. I totally forgot to make that connection which is quite astonishing considering how much time I spend around here BlushGrin. Lucky me you have such a good memory!! I'd simply forgotten to use it. But... I also don't have pigmentation issues (unless you look with a magnifying mirror and who wants to do that???) and use so many other "brightening" things and that is why, maybe naively, I don't expect instant results.

But I will stay alert for that tightening feeling tomorrow morning!

EnidButton · 14/11/2016 01:20

Aurora I think I always take at least 4 lip products out in my bag. You never know! Grin

hollinhurst84 · 14/11/2016 02:13

Yeah let's not discuss makeup BlushBlush
I may have slight... Collecting issues Grin

AuroraPolaris · 14/11/2016 08:26

And forgot to say yuck for canned pumpkin HmmGrin

botemp · 14/11/2016 08:44

I think 'yuck' is the only appropriate response to canned pumpkin. Don't care they recommend the organic one, it sounds vile.

Of course we need at least 4 lip products, you have to cover all the different texture products, 1 balm, 1 gloss, 1 traditional, 1 miscellaneous usually in pencil form. Speaking of, completely ignores Hollin's pleas and suggests there's a thread for that I wondered into the Primark (after the TKMaxx in The Hague, lots of lovely non manhandled Nars bits, a few YSL, Laura Mercier, and Bare Minerals things, Aurora, but nothing there to really tempt me. Skincare was lots of high end UK brands and a lot of Lauder and Elizabeth Arden. They had some outrageously priced sheet masks, €12 each Shock and some face shop cushion foundations but that was it on the Korean front, ok back to Primark) and they had some fab lip crayon/gloss thingies. Lovely nude and red shades but the line for the cash register was too long, hope they're still there when I venture there some time again at a more quiet hour. Was really impressed by the quality, especially considering the price.

botemp · 14/11/2016 08:45

Wandered not wondered, stupid autocorrect.

AuroraPolaris · 14/11/2016 09:57

Well, let's say that while you were wandering the aisles and contemplating the lovely lipsticks you were wondering if it was worth cueing for ...

By the way I'm really enjoying an Apivita (Greek brand) cherry colour tinted lip balm I got this past summer. It's based on beeswax (no MO!) so it's really serving me well these days when lips are already so dry and creating a lovely deep red tint in the process Wink

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2016 10:43

Did anyone get CH's email re acids? Specifically found this interesting:-

Myth: You must use SPF30 or above if using acids as AHAs increase sensitivity to UV light.
Fact: Increases in sunburn cell formation have been documented following AHA use.
However, this effect can be prevented by use of the very lowest level of sunscreen, even as low as an SPF2.
(This fact is merely to reassure you that if you use acids, you're not burning your face off, not to encourage you to cease SPF usage! CRH)

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2016 10:45

Does anyone use acids twice a day? I've been using AHA and BHA on alternate evenings.

OP posts:
Wellhellothere1 · 14/11/2016 10:51

Pupsie, I use BHA in the morning and AHA in the evening and have done for the last year or two. No issues. Though I do have oily skin so perhaps drier skin may not fare so well. Also saw the CH post and thought it made interesting reading.

botemp · 14/11/2016 11:09

CH is very wishy washy about SPF (in the past she used to tout the SPF in makeup was plenty, etc.) so I don't consider her to be a great authority on it tbh.

AHA, Retin-A, and to a lesser extent BHA make you photosensitive, perhaps it is more caution than need to be grabbing the higher SPF ratings but most of us will be using SPF for anti-ageing regardless, there's an interesting article about it here and the cited study here which showed using daily sunscreen (emphasis was on the daily use) actually showed to reverse signs of ageing, a thing previously only credited to Retin-A which makes for an interesting new development.

SPF30 and above is the WHO daily recommendation and it has more to do with avoiding skin cancer (which also sensible) than anything else.

It's kind of an odd fact to then be reputing at the same time, is it just meant to point out that AHAs aren't as scary as they sound Confused?

Those who tend to use acids 2x a day are more likely to be oily/acne prone, and sometimes even do BHA 2x a day in a routine. I tend to use my acids together at night and alternate with Retinol. I think caution is warranted, BHA is unlikely to cause it but AHA and Retinol overuse will lead to over exfoliation which is very difficult to restore again.

AuroraPolaris · 14/11/2016 11:19

SPF2... what is that anyway?
Agree with bo as per usual re CH. I always found "SPF in make up is enough" a bit weird not only because of the SPF but mainly because of the amount. I don't read what she writes anymore...

Yes SPF x 365 is the best defense against aging (maybe asides from heavy smoking etc)!

AuroraPolaris · 14/11/2016 11:22

Nowadays I use acids 2-3 times a week in the PM and on other days retinol. Never together! My skin is normal-dry though. When I began with P50 I used it every day but after a while it just felt too much.
