Following on from the skincare routines post, what ingredients do you make sure you include in your products, for example, Vit C, Vit E, Hyaluronic acid?

TIA

Oh so glad you are in possession of your TO goodies! Maybe I'll get mine tomorrow!
I think I will also be a annoyed by the VIT C tube, but well for that price and %... I'm sure they will perfect it soon enough.

Speaking of packaging I was pleasantly surprised to discover that you can reverse the Naruko packaging and turn it into pretty reusable boxes that sadly I have no use for--

A great though time consuming solution for KP is dry brushing. I did it last two winters for health reasons as I suffered from some health issues and not only it feels lovely and invigorating but gives one lovely mostly smooth skin. Haven't gotten into it again yet....

Hollin that balm looks soooo lovely. Sadly I'm a bit sensitive to mandarin oil....

AuroraPolaris · 06/11/2016 10:58

Oh Weleda lavander body oil is lovely though I do prefer the rose one. Well, I prefer anything smelling of rose Grin
By the way I've posted about this previously but in case you didn't see it - Easypharmacie has amazing prices for Weleda.
Speaking of which, who was it that wrote she uses Costx BHA on her DD? I've been using it on DS (11) who had skin coloured bumps on forehead (basically blocked pored but not red) and the improvement is amazing! We've only used it 3-4 times (after cleasing with the Weleda gentle cleanser) as I didn't want to risk a reaction but it's almost gone.... and he's so happy!!! So thanks a lot for posting about that Flowers

AuroraPolaris · 06/11/2016 10:59

Pores.....

botemp · 06/11/2016 11:01

Yes they pay for premium shipping so much faster than most things from the UK -still slow though--. The tracking was also accurate for once, even displayed the NL bit for a change, though didn't show up in my PostNL app.

I went DIY mad too with the Naruko packaging... then promptly threw it in the trash oops. Though I kept one to keep sheet masks in, so that's useful. Speaking of Naruko, my ebay seller is gone the entire month of November and now I can't order Shock, it's like the Ordinary withholding all over again!

I've done the dry brushing, it works ok for me but not brilliant and since I am sensitive all over I find manual exfoliation really isn't the best (I do like it before a bath though, but more the whole circulatory thing). The Clarins body serum with a bit of retinol actually did the best job (actually no, the sun does the best job KP is a winter thing with me). I suspect the BP lotion p50 for the body would be my perfect match but I have to get over the price threshold and try sensible options first before succumbing to that... so plan of attack is LA 10%, LA10% + Urea 10% Eucerin Body Lotion if that doesn't work, Ordinary Retinol if that doesn't work and then BP P50 corps edition, although it might be summer by that time Shock.

Dulcimena · 06/11/2016 11:06

Ooh, absolutely love the sound of shark sauce - thanks for that Bo! Sample ordered :)

botemp · 06/11/2016 11:09

I tried the CosRx BHA but preferred the PC, I do think it's good for more acne prone/teenage skin for daily use on the entire face rather than enlarged pore/blackhead issues in targeted areas, it's a slightly different form of BHA (due to Korean OTC regulations) so it's about 1% in strength in comparison to the 2% PC.

Pupsie, the Age Confidence Oil is a bit thicker so I usually sprayed a bit of thermal or floral water before it and then massaged it and used less of it (2 drops as opposed to 3 or more). It was brilliant for winter, if I run out of one of my oils anytime soon I might get it again. #bomakesherselfdoit

Although I think a more appropriate hashtag would be #blameitallonbowhenitgoeswrong Grin.

botemp · 06/11/2016 11:12

If you end up ordering the full size, Dulci, ask her on the side if she'll change the value on your package or mark it as a gift, the US stuff always seems to get hit with custom charges. Officially she's not allowed to do that but I have heard she does do it if asked.

hollinhurst84 · 06/11/2016 12:31

Botemp, yes the retinol tingled on me at first but I had only used LRP one before so it was a jump in strength!
I'm tempted by that balm, it's a decent price and looks good...

hollinhurst84 · 06/11/2016 12:32

Dulcimena - cushions?!? We have none in ours Sad

AuroraPolaris · 06/11/2016 14:09

Good idea about the box for sheet masks and yeah Deciem shipping seems much faster than in the past.

I also suffer from (minimal) KP only on winter. Lately (if I remember) I've also been using what is left of the P50 on the cotton disk on upper arms and than helps as well but I'm keen to follow your LA plan of action!

I chose the Cosrx (which has relative few ingredients) for DS as he has very sensitive skin and I've only ever used organic stuff on him. Poor thing I still insist he uses the Weleda baby shampoo Wink but he had terrible eczema when he was younger and is completely free of it now, so he knows mother knows best....

Pupsiecola · 06/11/2016 14:16

I'm trying to get into the habit of dry brushing every morning for 5 minutes, especially on my thighs. I'm not doing it consistently enough to see a difference yet, but will try to do so.

OP posts:
botemp · 06/11/2016 14:28

How far away is he from university? By that time I hope he'll be allowed something other than Weleda baby shampoo poor sod Wink.

I've been using p50 remnants on elbows and knees and that's been beyond brilliant, don't think there's enough left for the upper arms Sad.

Ok never tried LRP, and Verso is super gentle and never quite got to grips with their maths on strength (supposedly 8x more effective than ordinary Retinol, whatever that means Confused). I think when Aurora tries out TO Retinol in the future she'll have a better compare/contrast with the SkinCeuticals version she's currently using in terms how potent the Retinol really is. The Vit C is definitely effective and I'm uhming and ahing how sensible it is for sensitive skin but I'll know in a fortnight or so. Also realised too late my day cream has high % niacinamide in, so probably not the best judge of things today...

wiltingfast · 06/11/2016 17:19

ok, am pondering the ordinaries. It's just too good to resist.

Have decided on the

niacinamide (for congested rather sore forehead)
vit c 23% (bit nervous of this but will avoid sensitive cheeks)
Matrixyl (intrigued by peptides, not an ingredient I've come across before)

Would like to add a hydration boost as well but finding the hydration info confusing. Are the moisturising factors better than the pure HA serum? Or the buffet seems like quite a safe catch all?

I notice the site recommends you stick to 3 serums but are they all serums? Or just the ones with active ingredients? What about the acids?

I remain scared of acids hence no retinoid. Grin

Might keep it simple and just add in rose hip oil. Got on well with ordinary rose hip oil before. Would you say I'm likely to be over the sensitivity I had after the anti oxidant rose hip oil?

Would anyone be able to recommend a low ph cleanser that's cheap enough for whole family to use?

yongnian · 06/11/2016 18:23

dulcie yes it's seb derm. I take vit d all year as it goes - I found by accident it is really helpful for my insomnia and for the general lack of sunshine in my life....

botemp · 06/11/2016 18:50

The Buffet is Matrixyl + Probiotics (though I'm assuming with less Matrixyl than the stand alone serum) so I'd choose one or the other, I'd be more inclined to try Matrixyl on its own if this is to be one of your more 'active' serums.

Personally if I'd reacted badly to one rosehip oil I wouldn't go trying another one, and despite all the love for rosehip oil I don't find it that amazing enough of an ingredient to risk irritation again.

What type of congestion do you have? If it's blocked pores you'll be better off with BHA than Niacinamide as a first line of offence. Despite being an acid it's not all that aggressive or damaging as demonstrated by the fact that it's anti-inflammatory and recommended for rosacea sufferers.

If you're nervous about Vit C at 23% and never used it before wait out their other Vit C offerings (I doubt it'll be much longer before they're released), see the guide for difference in irritation and potency here. Also Matrixyl is supposed to be a 'replacement' for a retinol/vit c routine so you could just leave it out altogether and see how you get on with that first.

They're not all serums (oils don't count as such in my book and they seem set on releasing some primers and moisturisers).

The moisturising factors will be more like a moisturiser but with an oil free type texture, acting as an occlusive whilst the stand alone HA (serum) will need an additional occlusive (oil or moisturiser) to seal it all in. Depending on how many serums you intend to use and/or level of dehydration I'd pick one or the other.

AuroraPolaris · 06/11/2016 19:16

He's only 11 bo so he's got a while to go, but poor thing he has had eczema, he has lactose intolerance and hay fever (though this spring the acupuncturist got rid of that with some drops in one week!). In short what they call atopic constitution. In any case by then I will definitely allow him to graduate to grown up Weleda stuff Grin

wilting what about LRP Tolerian? It's been discussed here and you can get 400ml bottles that work out quite cheap (and even cheaper in France or Easypharmacie).

wiltingfast · 06/11/2016 21:11

Oooh v reasonable on easypharmacie. And no sls or parabens Smile I was looking at another one from LRP with a stated ph of 5.5 but it had sls. Thanks for the tip Aurora.

Bo, my skin veers towards oily but my forehead at the moment feels bumpy to the touch and sore in spots. Texture v uneven. Complexion quite ruddy and I notice I am developing a sensitive patch just under the curve of my cheek. Pores look large but clean.

Is the niacinamide more for acne type skin? I don't get full on spotty breakouts really. The odd one only. Def no acne.

The thing is, now I'm focused on it (thanks to this thread) I've realised my current moisturiser manages the feat of feeling a bit heavy and yet my skin also feels a tad tight after it. And looks redder immediately after application though that settles quickly...Hmm I might actually bring it back to Clinique.

A pp said the niacinamide settled their redness which is attracting me to it Grin

AuroraPolaris · 07/11/2016 08:13

Wilting you could also make a cleansing oil, at least for yourself. Just look at the INCI of some oil you like and get organic cold pressed oils and try. Sesame seed oil serves as base for some cleansers or of course almond oil or even olive oil.

Re our previous discussion of oils - what about grape seed oil? Could that be an option?

botemp · 07/11/2016 09:49

I mentioned the LRP Toleriane Dermo earlier so I assumed that cleanser somehow didn't meet your criteria. If it appeals to you check the offers, the French pharmacy websites often do double deals, like [[http://www.cocooncenter.co.uk/la-roche-posay-toleriane-dermo-cleanser-2-x-400ml/14946.html]] currently have 2x 400ml for a steeply discounted price, bear in mind that both EP and CC charge shipping so it usually pays off to buy several things at once (and I'd suggest getting a smaller bottle from Boots or something to make sure you'll get on with the product first). Personally I'm not a big fan of oil cleansing without an emulsifier to avoid clogging and very messy bathrooms if teens are involved.

The redness, bumps, and soreness sounds more to be a reaction to your moisturiser and doesn't really sound like a good fit so I'd definitely consider taking it back. Maybe try the LRP Toleriane Fluide? The Ordinary Niacinamide would be helpful with tightening pores and texture so it doesn't sound like a bad choice if that's what you're wanting it for.

botemp · 07/11/2016 09:51

Link fail : Cocooncenter Offer

wiltingfast · 07/11/2016 11:24

Thanks Bo, LRP is actually quite expensive here (Ireland), 200ml of the dermo cleanser is €15, though there is an offer now of €11 in boots. But v expensive for a family. But if I could get it at the offer price, that would be a game changer. I also got confused looking at ph's. Thought it had a higher ph that it actually seems to. I probably just got confused trying to look at it all on the phone...

Will try the toleriane fluid too. And some goodies from The Ordinary Grin

Was thinking of looking in at the AB threads, but better not given the level of itching to buy this thread as given me Grin

Wellhellothere1 · 07/11/2016 13:14

Wow! You guys all know your 'stuff' so well! I'm very impressed. I was coming on to chat about facial oils which I have just started using and LOVE. My skin is very oily but I think it might be dehydrated too as the facial oil has plumped out all my fine lines around my eyes. I bought the loreal rebalancing oil but it's chock full of ingredients and different oils.
My skin had improved so much over the last year or so following these skincare threads. I now double cleanse each night (oil cleanser followed by no 7 cleanser) S.A. Nip and Fab pads, the ordinary vit C, HA serum (habo labo I think) Loreal facial oil, Cerave moisturiser then Retin A 0.1%. Phew!
Are facial oils ok for oily skin? Any other recommendations on the oil front?

AuroraPolaris · 07/11/2016 13:34

Have a look at my favorite facial oil EVER - Clarins Lotus Oil. I don't even have oily skin but been using it for many many many years.

Wellhellothere1 · 07/11/2016 16:05

Oh that looks lovely aurora thanks. Great reviews too. MN is not good for my bank balance 😀

AuroraPolaris · 07/11/2016 17:30

Mine neither Grin but it's a very rich oil so it does last for ages and it's my SOS product. Acid + that has calmed my skin from various disaster reactions to other stuff or even a while ago when my face was full of tiny bumps following a food poisoning.
