Interesting on Aberfan (written in 2007). I welled up too this morning - the thought of a town with not enough children, and the story of the father who stood up at one of the inquests and said he wanted the verdict to be "buried alive by the NCB". My mother was heavily pregnant with me then. I was sitting at ante-natal clinic when news of the Dunblane massacre broke and that moment has stayed with me. A room full of weeping pregnant women.

BTM, thinking of you. Does ds need any dvds or anything?

Collymollypuff · 21/10/2016 11:12

I dreamt about BTM and Rudy and their dc last night! There were many exceptionally beautiful horses in the dream as well, and a rather fierce bull which I had to be rescued from. (Go figure.) I think I felt a bit frustrated I couldn't help more with the ds situations, although a cynic would add that of course I feel pretty powerless to help my own ds, except in preventing dh from being a bull in a china shop in his regard.

Hope things go well today, BTM. Thanks

hattymattie · 21/10/2016 11:38

Rudy - there is nothing worse than trying to deal with stress and trauma when you're tired and ill. Flowers

Going to eat sushi with DS.

bigTillyMint · 21/10/2016 11:41

Thanks for all the good wishes. DSs DH has just been in to see him - so lovely of her and he was really chuffed.

Grin at you dreaming of us Molly I'm sure the dream has some significance, not sure exactly what though!

Rudy, so sorry to hear you are suffering, but glad you are getting support Flowers Have you seen the GP for the feeling physically rough?

Thanks for the offer of DVDs - he has actually brought a load with him but not really had time to watch anything with the constant stream of visitors and tests!

Lalsy · 21/10/2016 12:28

Rudy, sorry I missed your post. Flowers.

We should collect the Crepey Laws.

Blackduck · 21/10/2016 12:41

Rudy {{ }} Have to admit no further forward on counselling thing, but am doing less beating up of self than was last week/beginning of this.

addle · 21/10/2016 13:00

one of the survivors of aberfan talked this morning about not being able to play out in teh streets because it was too unbearable for many of the bereft families. the children used to go off [can't remember where] so that they played out of sight. so so sad

yes, yes to breathing whoever said that. course i was on recently said remembering to moderate and balance your breathing was akin to running a car in 5th - you really conserve power

It's hard to allow ourselves to rest, innit? My superego just yells "Lazy!" at me. Being the faithful supporter of/forward planner for/cleaner-upper after dh is fecking exhausting though.

Auriga · 21/10/2016 15:19

Ward Round

First Sister does not hold with the superego. Let us hear no more from that quarter (hums A Spoonful of Sugar ).

All those on the Sick List (Magi, Montserrat, Crem, Beachy, Hattie, Rudy, have I missed anyone?), please follow Rudy's excellent example and take to bed or lie on a sofa or comfy chair, preferably reclining or with footstool, at the earliest opportunity.

BTM, this also applies to those on the Worried Sick list.

You may take a book, tablet or Kindle or some source of soothing music.

Please announce to your cohabitees and dependants that you are sick and Sister has signed you off. Then wait for flowers, sustenance and (mild) entertainment to be brought to you as Sister deems appropriate.

Please remember that Sister will be Very Annoyed if you exert yourself in the cooking, cleaning, or child-wrangling department whilst unwell. Paid work is also frowned on. You do not want to upset Sister (see below).

If Sister feels you have been fed, watered & entertained & are making progress, she may allow you to get up for a bubble bath, gentle walk or similar convalescent treat. Please apply in writing in time for next ward round. (Watching Bake-Off is prescribed; more exciting or harrowing material may need special dispensation).

If Sister is not satisfied, she may report you to Matron Shock who may threaten to set the Doctor on you Shock Shock.

Sister will be back to take your temperatures, turn your pillows & check on your (self) care shortly.

hattymattie · 21/10/2016 15:40

GrinBrilliant Auriga - I do declare myself much better though. Best wishes to those still ailing.

Put shirts out on line. Five minute downpour followedAngry

magimedi · 21/10/2016 15:48

Have been following Auriga's advice - as can't do much at all. DH has been a Star & done the lot &even taken me out for gentle drives as I find sitting in the car being driven along really helps the vertigo - steady horizons??

Saw an elderly acquaintance who told me her neighbour stayed so thin & fir because she goes to "Polaris twice a week" Grin

magimedi · 21/10/2016 15:49

I'm just as bad fit not fir Grin

motherinferior · 21/10/2016 16:13

Please, sister, I am feeling Not Very Well. I know this because I want a bath (I do wash, but usually showers)....

bigTillyMint · 21/10/2016 16:19

Love it, Ward Sister!

Just been for a coffee with the lovely Addle. Got back to find DS rather crods about how long I'd been Blush despite having had a friend visit for about half of the time. He's got to have 24 hour ecg on Mon - either here or at home depending on when they discharge him.

Sister, I luffs you. Instilling some much needed discipline round here Grin. I am temporarily on sick bench with sleepless night followed by period tsunami, which managed to peak during my meeting today. AM now back home on sofa, going nowhere, may possibly do a little light internet shopping.

Aww about ds missing you, BTM.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 21/10/2016 16:51

I'm not on the sick list thank goodness - Flowers and sympathy to all those who are. Auriga will see you right in no time - but be careful as she's VERY strict.

I have no problems with my superego on a Friday afternoon - after running around all week I'm reclining on a sofa with a cup of tea, my laptop and the new Leonard Cohen CD (long standing Crepes will know that my embarrassing love for Leonard knows no bounds).

I have ongoing worry and difficult feelings re my mother - but will think about them later as there doesn't seem too much I can do about them right now...

herbaceous · 21/10/2016 16:55

Sister, thank god you're here. These crepeys just will not take it easy enough.

I am currently not under any sickness orders, but may become so due to self-inflicted busy-ness. Science Museum today, gin and bingo tonight, choir rehearsal and concert most of tomorrow, people round for Sunday lunch. Then a packed schedule of half-term activity, including the dreaded London Tour on public transport.

addle · 21/10/2016 16:58

oh, btm, sorry about depriving ds, but was lovely to see you and I think you, ds and everyone are doing enormously well d

such a good thing when hospitals have decent cafes near by. used not to be so

Blackduck · 21/10/2016 16:59

So my way home feeling very tired but not ill. I will try to send my superego off with Colly's for a break....

I am very Angryre my colleague who has not been shortlisted for a job and someone else has - someone who has NO and I mean NO experience in the field, whereas the role is pretty much what my colleague does. Could it be because he's a man?!? We are pushing hard for constructive feedback on why she didn't even make the shortlist.

Auriga · 21/10/2016 17:00

Paperwork? If you put it down now, I won't rat on you to Sister. If you feel like doing anything else work-related, please ring the call bell immediately & ask an orderly to fan you till the feeling goes off.

motherinferior · 21/10/2016 17:11

I am putting a few words on the page but have cancelled a drink later and will instruct the Inferiorettes to shove fish and chips in the oven and pour me a glass of red.

Mr Inferior is in Austria. Doing...yep, regular readers will have guessed.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 21/10/2016 17:31

I'm better Sister Smile It truly was a passing bug, which I always believed was just a ruse to get off work for one specific day, but here I am, all better less than 48 hours after public embarrassment of car park chucking Blush I might test it with a Chinese takeaway tonight and my first glass of wine since Tuesday (which might be why I'm feeling better!)

It's truly a beautiful Autumn evening here, lovely light. Here's to half term all.

BTM, my irrepressible niece works in the hospital if your ds wants a loud visitor. Positive is her middle name Grin
