Have you seen any nice BROGUES?

I'd like some flat or very-low heel brogues.

Not the kind with the very thick platform-ish sole.

Maybe in that nice dark red colour (oxblood). Or maybe just black.

Maybe with those patterny holes.

Not the part-black-part-white ones that make me think I should be a tap-dancing gangster.

catsogcat seconding the red or dead Rosie brogues! I had a pair in red years ago that I literally wore through over a couple of years because I loved them so much! This year I remembered them and bought a pair in burgundy. I've replaced the laces with red grosgrain ribbon and they look really cute!

*Questions for future research:

  1. Does anyone who doesn't work in education actually wear them?*

I love my tan Hamble Oaks. I don't work in education though, so not sure I'm actually allowed to wear them.... but my Mum works in a school. Does that count? [hmmm]

Trills · 06/11/2016 14:34

I can confirm that I am now a Hamble Oak wearer (and I do not work in education).

It is the other way round. If you buy the Hambles you slowly start to work in Education. Obviously.

Trills · 06/11/2016 15:27

Ah, I see.

I'll keep you updated.

Just wanted to say thanks to you all - tried a few fake leather brogues a few months ago and found I loved it so much I wanted proper ones. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Smile

Oh, and I'm not a teacher either - I'm a banker (please don't hate me Blush)

Another Hamble oaks wearer here and I work in finance at a University Oxblood and a tweed check.

I've also got a tan pair of Hudson brogues which are buttery soft compared to the hambles.

IrenetheQuaint · 06/11/2016 17:43

I love Hamble Oaks (and work in education) but I do find the heels wear out and that cobblers won't repair them because of the way they're made. I think I walk in a funny way though so it may be my fault.

Florathefern · 06/11/2016 18:56

Massimo Dutti have beautiful burgundy brogues. They are a thing of beauty.

Office sometimes have nice ones too.

I despise Hamble Oaks. Clarke's have managed to make them neither feminine, cool or beautiful.

squiz81 · 06/11/2016 20:03

I've got hamble oaks in a metallic silver. I do like them but often worry i look like I'm trying to dress like a robot. Plus people have asked me if I'm wearing tap shoes...also they come up a bit too high on my ankle.

I have some tan brogues from Newlook, the teenager range 915, they are really comfy but thin soled.

I do love brogues, I'm going to go back and have a closer inspection on the recommendations on this thread now...

BikeRunSki · 06/11/2016 20:12

I have 2 pairs of Hamble Oaks (black, pewter)
1 pair from M&S Autograph (navy) which are lovely soft leather, but not very hardwearing, with very thin soles.
1 pair from Next boys - not too chunky at all, thick leather and cheap because no VAT, sometimes it's handy having wide feet.

I tried some RorD Rosie's on once, but they were too small in the biggest size (I'm an 8.5-9)

I dream of a pair of Grenson's.

BusterGonad · 07/11/2016 04:26

I have the black patent and the gold hamble oaks. I do not teach and I do not work in a school. My husband however is a teacher and my son goes to school! Grin

BusterGonad · 08/11/2016 03:31

Lol Fletcher I've just gone for a job in education!!!
