Have you seen any nice BROGUES?

I'd like some flat or very-low heel brogues.

Not the kind with the very thick platform-ish sole.

Maybe in that nice dark red colour (oxblood). Or maybe just black.

Maybe with those patterny holes.

Not the part-black-part-white ones that make me think I should be a tap-dancing gangster.

1. Does anyone who doesn't work in education actually wear them?
Me! I also have a pair of silver Caprice brogues. They are soft as butter with pillowy soles.

Flisspaps · 08/10/2016 20:48

I have silver and rose gold brogues.

They cost me a whopping £5 a pair from Primark Grin

Another one who finds the Clark's Hamble really uncomfortable. I've gone in about three times to try them on hoping they'll get better. They don't! Just really stiff leather and quite tight too.

(NB I also work in education!)

MoonlightMojitos · 09/10/2016 00:45

A vote for hambles from someone who doesn't work in education however I work in finance I have a black pair and a cream and pale pink pair!

Petal02 · 09/10/2016 10:44

I very nearly bought Hamble Oaks yesterday (I tried them on, and they felt great) but I found the Dune pair just had a slight edge for me, hence the purchase and the link in my earlier thread.

However when I next get paid, I may well treat myself to Hamble Oaks in deep purple (I think Clarks call it aubergine) or perhaps these (they come in black and purple):

SunsetBeetch · 09/10/2016 11:54

my mouth I love everything £5 too. I've bought quite a lot from there, and it's usually been pretty good quality.

thisfalseinsight I love those!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2016 11:56

Brogues don't suit me, although I can't quite work out why. Thanks to Petal, though, for the discovery that Clarks are doing lots of purple shoes. I may well have to go and check some of those out!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2016 12:00

Do people really pay three hundred English pounds for Clarks shoes???!!!

SwedishEdith · 09/10/2016 12:06

I wanted to like those Hamble Oaks but I found the leather really hard - could tell they'd be ankle shredders. And the sole is still quite thin.

The ones in the other link look ok but sold out of the popular sizes already (early Oct).

RalphSteadmansEye · 09/10/2016 12:12

I've got one pair of Hamble Oaks. They're okay - but quite stiff on the top and I don't think they suit thin feet.

White Stuff have a gorgeous oxblood pair with a slight heel and I'm tempted because their shoes and boots are very comfortable.

My friend has Dune brogues and the leather is very soft on them, too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2016 12:17

Ralph - These ones? They look lovely.

Rshard · 09/10/2016 12:28

Another vote for shoe embassy. I have red ones, 3 years old and still receive compliments whenever I wear them!

Fibbertigibbet · 09/10/2016 16:12

Another vote for hambles! I have them in tan and absolutely adore them- easily the most comfortable shoes I own. (and no, I don't work in education Wink )

RalphSteadmansEye · 09/10/2016 21:54

Yep, Remus, they're the ones. Might have to have a pair.

ZazieCats · 10/10/2016 09:25

Grenson

Floisme · 10/10/2016 09:42

Hamble Oaks are fab.

My sister trained as a primary teacher.

nickEcave · 10/10/2016 11:56

University administrator here and at last count I owned 4 pairs of hamble oaks - oxblood, tan, navy and pewter. They are by quite a long way the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. I do have very small, slim feet though.

hiccupgirl · 10/10/2016 13:29

Teacher here and own 3 pairs of Hamble Oaks - navy snakeskin, tan and and very old light beige pair. They are so comfy and last really well. The beige pair are 4 years old and just need rehearing now. I don't find they rub anywhere which is unusual as I have very wide toes but narrow heels, and the soles are comfy to wear all day.

I also have 2 other pairs of brogues from Clarks from previous years. Clearly I like brogues Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/10/2016 16:03

Lecturer here, and I am not a fan of Hamble Oaks. I found they came up too high round the ankle and the top of my foot. I do, however, own a lot of other pairs of brogues.

Trills · 11/10/2016 19:34

My aubergine size 7 1/2 Hamble Oaks have arrived.

They do not come up too high.

They do not look like "men's shoes".

They MAY look like "primary school teacher shoes".
Clarks have a good returns policy so I'm going to wear them about in the house for a while before I decide if they are comfy.

So a mostly thumbs-up result?

QuiltedAloeVera · 11/10/2016 20:20

I have the Hamble Oaks in black. So comfy. I work in a secondary school. Of course.

I used to own Clarks Carousel Trick - much lighter than Hamble Oak, less padded sole so not quite as comfy. But I felt they looked a little more feminine and I wore them every working day until they fell apart (two years).

Laquila · 11/10/2016 20:35

I find it very hard to do brogues without looking like a masculine spinster in an episode of Miss Marple. What am I doing wrong?? I wear skinny jeans most of the time, but also tube skirts and dresses.

Laquila · 11/10/2016 20:57

Just fell into a black hole for half an hour on that Shoe Embassy website, thanks Remus!

I like the look of the EuGenius abd Brick Lane styles - does anyone have those?

Trills · 12/10/2016 08:25

I can't give a TRUE 👍 until I've worn them a bit :)

Well that's a good alternative if I get bored of primary-school teacher :o
