Have you seen any nice BROGUES?

I'd like some flat or very-low heel brogues.

Not the kind with the very thick platform-ish sole.

Maybe in that nice dark red colour (oxblood). Or maybe just black.

Maybe with those patterny holes.

Not the part-black-part-white ones that make me think I should be a tap-dancing gangster.

Secondary Hamble wearer too. Mine lasted 2 winters before the patent split.

cardibach · 08/10/2016 17:22

My feet are size 9/10 and Clarks 9s come nowhere near - more like an 8 1/2. Any suggestions for larger sizes?

Trills · 08/10/2016 17:25

Catdogcat you mean there are OTHER shoes in the world? Shock Wink

I have patent black and a pair of very pale pink Hamble Oaks.

I'm not a teacher - but I was a teaching assistant. How does that affect the statistics?

traviata · 08/10/2016 17:49

I saw the gold today - they are most definitely gold, not pewter. Quite a deep yellowy old-gold colour. Absolutely fabulous, but quite the statement. If I wore them to work I could count on my colleagues humming Fred Astaire songs and asking me where my top hat and tails had gone.

I did buy these the other day and I love them. DD is appalled by them., but then she is 14.

witsender · 08/10/2016 18:19

White stuff and seasalt have some.

TheFairyCaravan · 08/10/2016 18:23

I've got nude Hamble Oaks. I'm going to treat myself to a green pair.

Dune, also, do nice brogues. I've got 3 pairs

fatsowhale · 08/10/2016 18:42

Does anyone have clarks carousel trick? Are they comparable with Hambles?

leghoul · 08/10/2016 18:42

I resisted the hamble oak ones for years on the basis I had never actually worn the brogues I'd bought before in various lovely shades from other places.

I wrecked my feet recently, and limped past a Clarks.. and left with the hamble oaks.. I now find every excuse to wear them that I can because they are SO comfortable

university teaching & hospital walking & generally on feet all day whatever am doing

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 08/10/2016 18:53

Not wanting to out myself as a cheapskate but i do like a good bargain and brogues everything 5 pounds have lots at the moment , i may have bought about 6 pairs they seem a good fit and good enough quality quite a bargain really

zippyswife · 08/10/2016 18:55

I got a beautiful pair of navy ones from zara in the sale last year. I'm yet to wear them though. I just don't know how to wear them. What to wear them with. I mean I don't even know what socks do you wear with them?

Catdogcat · 08/10/2016 19:08

Little pop sock/shoe liners from primark only cost a couple of quid and you can't see them if you get the little ones that cover toes and sole of foot.

I wear mine with ankle grazers or skirts so it's either the pop socks or opaque tights.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 08/10/2016 19:10

Clear statistical evidence: Hambles are worn by teachers at primary and secondary levels, TAs, university lecturers.

Questions for future research:

  1. Does anyone who doesn't work in education actually wear them?
  2. SLTs: My research currently suggests HTs and DHTs are never seen in them. Is this a statistical anomoly?
ijustwannadance · 08/10/2016 19:13

Another hamble oak wearer, love that I can get dainty looking shoe in wide fit. No wearing in at all. I was shocked how comfy they are.

Have my eye on the dark green now although the plum colour look fab too.

ijustwannadance · 08/10/2016 19:15

I do not work in education.Grin

I bought these today, they're fab!

CeeBeeBee · 08/10/2016 19:27

I also work in education and recently bought a pair of Hamble Oaks but in black as the tan just doesn't suit me. I wear mine with skirts.

witsender · 08/10/2016 19:31

I like the wooden type soles on brogues.

BestIsWest · 08/10/2016 19:43

Have seen them worn by a university department head if that counts.
I do not work in education and do not own a pair. But have looked at them many times in store

balkanscot · 08/10/2016 19:46

Another vote for Seasalt brogues. Squash and forest green ones are particular favourites.

rightknockered · 08/10/2016 19:46

I teach at a London University, but I wear Cheaney's brogues. I usually buy them in the sale

rightknockered · 08/10/2016 19:48

I have some like these, but burgundy

Must admit I am not a fan of the Clarks as they always come up too wide and dig into my ankle bones, and the leather is very stiff. I have been looking for brogues for ages and just got these:

I looooove them. They are ridiculously comfortable right out of the box, and they have a nice delicate (not thick at all) sole - which has a layer of rubber over it so they're not slippy. They're also cut in quite a feminine way - not clunky. Just FYI they are a little big; I'm usually a 38.5 and went down to a 38. Highly recommended!
