Trainers: Cool and Functional Help!

I'm just about to send back these gorgeous but sadly not at all cushioned Gola Liberty print trainers, they just didn't feel at all like I might spring along the footpath! https://www.gola.co.uk/womens-spirit-liberty-ht-trainer-p1962

I hate the phrase 'perfect for the school run' but my back is bloody killing me since my ds started school and we're speed waking him there pushing my other dc in a double buggy and then the pick up home again, plus taking the other two around town during the day etc etc.

I own some proper running shoes but they're pretty unattractive. My various plimsolls and Converse are the same issue, just a thin sole.

I want something that looks good with blue or grey jeans which I mainly wear, cute, pretty, but cushioned and supportive. I do like the neon look I see other people in. Nike is probably a good bet but just took a look and they're £££ especially if you fancy a bit of Liberty print. New Balance maybe?

Does anyone own a pair they love the look of, go with lots of things, yet are also good for the old back! Smile

I've got some new balance and I love them. They're really comfy and cool (I think) - and have lasted really well. Not too £££ either.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 04/10/2016 18:40

I like Vans but no idea if they're good for a bad back.

ZazieCats · 04/10/2016 18:43

Walsh, made in Bolton, comfy as hell, old school to the core.

AppleYumYum · 04/10/2016 18:53

Great, I'm going to do some googling on the sofa once the little darlings are in bed! Keep them coming...

AppleYumYum · 04/10/2016 18:55

hens which type of New Balance do you have?

FedupNagging · 04/10/2016 19:01

They're lovely Apple shame they don't fit the bill.

I have worn my stan smiths pretty much constantly since I got them. I have wide feet and find them really comfy to walk in.

Am currently looking at a darker pair for the winter - possibly silver.

FedupNagging · 04/10/2016 19:02

Meant to add, if you still find them uncomfortable, they are roomy enough to out decent orthopaedic insoles in.

Pistachiois50pmore · 04/10/2016 19:21

Adidas Stan Smiths or Gazelles

MrsPMT · 04/10/2016 19:57

I like these

really fancy some pink trainers and presume either Reebok or Nike would be very bouncy.

sammy891 · 06/10/2016 14:34

Adidas Superstars are very good. If you want to save some money the Schuh outlet online may have what you are looking for at a much lower price point and returns are free as well.

AppleYumYum · 11/10/2016 13:50

Thanks everyone, been down a shoe rabbit hole, there's so many! I think I need to go to a shoe store and try a few on for the bouncy/comfy check then look online!

Everytime I see one I love on google images it's some limited edition one from 2012, so must stop looking at that!

No help but those gola trainers are beautiful!

I have these very comfy New Balance. Approved by my fashionista daughter.

hettie · 11/10/2016 16:58

Nike the best for comfort (and I have fussy feet). I've had immaculate paid off eBay if you want the liberty print...

Enb76 · 11/10/2016 17:00

I wear Gazelles, I do a lot of walking. My current pair are about to die and be relegated to gardening shoes.

BusStopBetty · 11/10/2016 21:07

If you will give up dreams of stylish the sketchers are ridiculously comfortable. I bought some for a holiday where I was doing lots of walking and even at the end of the day they were still comfortable.

If you do want something lighter for the distant summer then superga are miles more comfortable than converse.

puglife15 · 13/10/2016 01:31

Just get the liberty print Nikes. In the grand scheme of things I doubt you'd miss an extra 50 quid and in my experience they last ages. Stan smith's are also comfy but not at Nike Air levels.

AppleYumYum · 13/10/2016 23:11

Yes puglife15 I am coming to the same conclusion, just get a Liberty print Nike Air.

Hettie I've seen a few nearly new on eBay, just a matter of them being your size and a pair I like, sometimes reasonable and sometimes crazy prices - maybe some kind of limited edition thing going on I don't appreciate yet. I suppose I had better actually go and try a pair on and see what size I am in Nike. Or I could be lazy and just get some random pairs on ASOS sent to try. Also would like to try some New Balance on to compare too.

I'm confused about my shoe size these days since dc3 - I have gone up a size or will they shrink back eventually Hmm

New balance are very comfy. I also have a pair of Nike internationalists in a real/green colour way that are good. My gazelles are comfy too. Really want some Stan smiths but will hold out for next summer I think.

MarvinGorilla · 14/10/2016 09:56

I have bad fibromyalgia and live in Gazelles and Stan Smiths.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 14/10/2016 12:55

These silver new balance look good and cheap - also come in gold. Or some even cheaper green ones but v few sizes left.

CallarMorvern · 14/10/2016 13:30

Oh my, wish you hadn't put that link up, there's a different pair of Liberty trainers on there that I am now coveting.
For comfort I stick with Adidas for sportswear. After a disastrous flirtation with Asics, my feet have only just recovered, so I'm not straying again!
I find Converse fine for casual, but had a bad time with Rocket Dogs ( which unfortunately were gorgeous).

CallarMorvern · 14/10/2016 13:36

Oh dear, I've just put Liberty trainers into the Ebay search box...there are so many nice ones...

MrsLogicFromViz · 14/10/2016 14:11

Thank you Bernice I have just bought the silver New Balance in a 9. I used click and collect, so hopefully I can return straightway if they don't fit Confused

FiddleFigs · 14/10/2016 14:15

I'm dropping DH lots of hints about these for Xmas: Brooks Vanguard Heritage in taupe/gold.

I love the Liberty print trainers, but they don't stand up to heavy wear, in my experience :(
