After lots of indecision I have taken the plunge and had a daith piercing done. I love it! It's a tiny act of rebellion against being 40 and always dressing for my professional role.

I was so pleased with the speed and the fact it barely hurt at all- I will never again ask why people say you shouldn't do ear piercings with a gun and to get a needle job done. No comparison at all! Smile

I just wanted to tell someone as I haven't got anyone else to tell about it- DS looked horrified and DH isn't home yet.

raspberry looks good! Have some ibuprofen to hand for a few days to keep the swelling down. I'm just a little tender around the top, only noticeable when I clean the piercing.

70, I had mine done as a 40th treat (I'm having a year of "sod it, I'm doing it") so don't let being 50 stop you.

Your DD may find she can't have a teeny tiny hoop to start with- piercer a prefer something bigger to allow for swelling and healing. I plan to swap to something a little more delicate in a few months- when the piercer is happy that I'm healed enough to change it. It will need to be either titanium or 14karat (or higher) gold.

I'm still really pleased with mine. It attracts lots of comments.

Mine is done too. It's still a bit red and swollen and still has the purple ink on (I'll clean it before bed, it's still feeling a bit tender after I knocked it earlier!) so I'll post a pic once it's looking a bit less angry.

The piercing itself was so easy, I felt a lot of pressure but no pain really, and was over in seconds. Plus the piercer was so chatty and friendly that I felt very relaxed with her.

Laura Whitmore was wearing some really pretty gold jewellery in (I think) her helix, daith and tragus on Strictly last night.

crikey81 · 02/10/2016 12:05

I would really like a rook. I have two helix piercings, done separately but now with one ring through both. One was an absolute pain in the bum to heal though and don't know if I want to go through that again, and I can't decide if I should keep it in the same ear or go for the other.

That's a really well done daith piercing raspberry! Sometimes you see really shallow ones, but they're supposed to look like part of the ring disappears into the ear canal.

Sadly, I don't think I have the anatomy for a daith because I don't have a nice chunky bit of cartilage in that part of my ear, just a thin little fold. Still haven't ruled out getting a conch piercing though.

I've been having a year of "sod it, I'm doing it!" too, Queen Smile I'm 35, and I had my second and last child last year. I've always admired a good tattoo but always felt that they weren't for strait laced, slightly boring people like me Wink This year I decided I could do what I wanted and got tattooed.

crikey81 · 02/10/2016 12:22

Whilst I'm here, does anyone have any recommendations for body type jewellery for standard lobes? I developed an allergic reaction to all my normal type earrings last year, but have no issues with the various bits of body jewellery I have.

JinkxMonsoon · 02/10/2016 12:30

Titanium is best is you have sensitivities. Barbells and labrets best if you like simple studs, and they're so much more comfortable to sleep on compared with studs with butterflies.

I've used Jo Bananas and Ouch Body Jewellery online. Huge selection and decent prices.

angeldiver · 02/10/2016 12:42

I have had my ears pierced for years but in the last few years seem unable to wear any type of earrings. Although they don't seem to be infected, they are not sore, one ear weeps. I no longer try wearing them.
But, I'd like to get my nose pierced but am worried it will not heal/be mucky.
Any advice or words of wisdom as to whether to go for it or not?

raspberrysuicide · 02/10/2016 14:27

I've had 2 nose piercings and taken them out a few weeks after. I found them both quite annoying and was fiddling around with them all the time. I also knocked it when I was washing my face a few times and that was very painful.

QueenofLouisiana · 02/10/2016 15:01

So this is mine, 9 days in. I've had some crusty stuff to clean out, a little spotting, but that's it. I'm pleased so far.

Looks great raspberrysuicide.

QueenofLouisiana - I've PM'd you a link to the piercer's Instagram account which he directed me to. Not sure it would be right to post the link publicly. Let me know what you think!

raspberrysuicide · 02/10/2016 15:28

Looks nice, love the ring you have Queen

About a 2 or 3 for my daith piercing. I do have a high pain threshold though!

HappyAxolotl · 02/10/2016 18:24

Here it is!

Sorry to be late into this thread but I wanted to join in the piercing talk! I recently turned rebellious (at the grand old age of 28 Wink) and started with a daith last Feb and now have 5 Grin
My most recent is my antitragus which I had done on Monday, it's currently hugely swollen (had read it would) but I LOVE it. Glad to find my place here amongst the pierced Smile
Here are the 4 in my ear, daith, conch, helix and antitragus and I've got my nose done too
