New piercing

After lots of indecision I have taken the plunge and had a daith piercing done. I love it! It's a tiny act of rebellion against being 40 and always dressing for my professional role.

I was so pleased with the speed and the fact it barely hurt at all- I will never again ask why people say you shouldn't do ear piercings with a gun and to get a needle job done. No comparison at all! Smile

I just wanted to tell someone as I haven't got anyone else to tell about it- DS looked horrified and DH isn't home yet.

I'm seriously considering one in an attempt to improve my migraines. There's no good science to suggest that it would help but I'm getting desperate. I work in a very conservative corporate environment, however, so I would need jewellery so discreet as to be virtually invisible at conversation distance. Any ideas?

Caken · 25/09/2016 03:30

It's just a plain silver hoop for now - this particular piercer only does it initially with hoops until it's healed up a bit.

This was just after I'd left the shop, I got halfway up the high street and had to dip into Boots to grab some Water Wipes (best I could think of at the time) as blood was pooling in my ear and about to start dripping down my face 😄

Poppy you are seriously getting on my tits, I've seen you being rude on various threads, put a sock in it or say something constructive.

I'm really liking the pics posted here, am so tempted to get something done but haven't a clue which type to get, often I see other people who look great but am not sure if they would suit me?

Eastpoint · 25/09/2016 07:34

I've had my tragus done recently, no problems at the moment. PPs comments are worrying me. I haven't put an earbud in on that side, I've just been using one & listening in mono.

Psyhke · 25/09/2016 07:49

Why is everyone's tragus annoying them? Eastpoint I didn't wear earbuds in that ear for ages because of the risk of infection. Now I wear them everyday when out walking and I have no issues with it, unless I catch the wire but it just feels a bit bruised the next day. I have a small hoop in mine and that part of my ear isn't very big.

Cate that doesn't fill me with hope. Got the piercer to check my nipple piercing as it's been bothering me and he said I probably would need thicker jewellery but 'that'll be painful to stretch it'. Yikes.

Psyhke · 25/09/2016 07:51

Sorry caken not cate

Today it's totally fine Psyhke, I've just been wearing normal ear studs in it for years but with no back so they always fall out and get lost. So I had a proper labret put in yesterday.

She pushed it through forwards first to check it would go, then she lubed it up with Vaseline and poked it in from behind 😁😉 and it went in no problems. It just felt a little tender for the rest of the day. Today it feels fine. I think it's just in a place that's easier to catch when adjusting your hair etc.

Don't be put off! I've otherwise had no problems with my tragus and love it, had it 10 years now.

Eastpoint · 25/09/2016 08:33

Mine is a labret with a sparkly stone visible. I've had so many compliments, when it's healed I want to have something by Maria Tash in it.

FranklyMeDeer · 25/09/2016 09:07

I've found my people

I had my tragus and helix pierced early this year, after many years of not being able to do it due to working in a food factory and piercings not being allowed. My tragus is fine, I'm so happy with it. I've found the bar impossible to change though, I took the original one out and then couldn't get the new one in, too fiddly. So now I have a standard earring in there until I can get to the piercer to do it for me. The helix has taken slightly longer to heal, but is getting there now. No infection, just a bit of clear oozing.

I used to have a nose piercing but due to aforementioned job I had to take it out and it closed up. Would love to get it done again. I also want a forward helix on the opposite ear to my tragus but apparently they're comparatively painful about diabetes unexpectedly pulled a whitey when my tragus was done even though it wasn't that sore so I'm nervous of it happening again

Indecisivejo · 25/09/2016 09:38

Poppy quite clearly isn't a classy lady either as a lady with class would never post comments like that, so poppy u may aswell get a piercing and join the rest of us "trash"

Caken · 25/09/2016 09:44

Franklymedeer I love the look of a forward helix, but I find myself regularly sweeping my hair behind my ears and I think I'd knock it all the time. It looks so pretty there though!

I usually feel odd after piercings, I think for me it's some kind of come down after getting so worked up about getting it done. Strangely I'm totally fine with blood tests and injections etc. Always feel faint after giving blood though...

Yesterday I was determined not to feel faint so I had a bottle of Fanta right before; was thinking a burst of sugar would help and maybe it's coincidence but I was totally fine. She also had my lying down for the piercing which helped I think. Just tell them before and they'll work out a way to help you, they must see it every day!

Kathsmum · 25/09/2016 09:46

Hi everyone. I'm 43 this month and had rook pierced as little pressie to me. I think it's subtle to the lady who asked but you can get clear bars too. Enjoying all the posts.

I've become a bit of a piercing addict. Got my nose pierced, sat year and more recently got third ear lobe holes and upper cartlidge hole.
I will also be getting daith and the front knobbly bit of ear (cannot remember what it's called atm!)

I'm also now addicted to tattoos too.

I'm 38. Mid life crisis maybe, but I don't really care!

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 25/09/2016 10:41

Those who have a daith, does it interfere with earbud headphones?

I want a daith because I think they look cool and I get migraines but I run and need music to drown out the pain, also DH snores like a train so I need to be able to use foam earplugs. Thinking I might have to settle for a rook.

BellaShLex · 25/09/2016 11:09

Mother I can wear earphones with my daith piercings (got them in both ears) but I've got hearts in mine, I just gently swing them forwards out of the way and slip the earbuds in! No problems at all. I have to wear a headset for work and didn't have any issues with that either.

Just treated myself to a helix piercing on both ears, definitely felt like that hurt more than my daiths!

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 25/09/2016 11:21

Thanks bella how was it whilst it was healing in? I heal VERY slowly so if the pp was told it takes a year, Im thinking mine will take longer than that.

nursepearl · 25/09/2016 14:39

Which piercing is easier to live with between a daith and a helix? Pain wise, healing and generally just getting in the way? What would you all recommend?

LolaStarr · 25/09/2016 15:36

nurse in my opinion daith, without a doubt

Cate8 · 25/09/2016 15:43

Daith is an easy piercing to have. I've retired my tragus, as of this morning. I retired my helix piercing some 20 years ago because that one just wouldn't heal. It was pierced with a gun so it shattered my cartilage and was difficult from day one.

As long as your piercer is knowledgable and doesn't use a gun then piercings are generally painless.

BellaShLex · 25/09/2016 16:05

Mother to be honest it was so easy after the first week, it only gets angry if I forget it's there and rub my ear! I can sleep on it easily. I'd say mine was mostly healed after 3 months, I could change the jewellery but I like my hearts. No weeping or needing to bathe it all the time, it's happiest just left to heal by itself. I'd definitely recommend it if you want a really low maintenance piercing that doesn't affect earphones or anything. My third love piercings are the biggest pain though, they're always angry!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 25/09/2016 16:07

i got a daith piercing a month or two ago and i love it and it has COMPLETELY stopped my headaches and migraines. i have had one headache since i had it done and NO migraines at all and i was averaging three a week plus headache every day when i woke up. im going to have the other side done as well i think. i also have a lip piercing which ive had since i was 17 . i might be trash according to some but at least im not rude enough to try and make other people feel like shit because they like things i don't

heyjude12 · 25/09/2016 16:24

I have to say that I had my daith pierced in desperation after suffering dibilitating migraines for the past 2 years. Since I've had it done I've had 3 and those were hormonal. A big improvement to 3/4 a week. Try it and see.
After all of it doesn't work you'll be classy funky and kids off poppy....

heyjude12 · 25/09/2016 16:25

Piss off poppy. Bastard predictive text

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/09/2016 18:07

Ooh! A piercing thread. Until last year I'd only had one in each lobe.
I now have a forward helix and a helix in my right ear and a conch in my left.
Warning do not look at any BVLA jewellery !
Ill try and find some of my piercing photos out.
