How to wear a jumper dress?

poppym12 · 23/09/2016 10:09

I ordered long jumper/tunic thinking I'd wear it to cover my fat ass in jeans. The jumper has arrived. It's huge. Knee length. It's lovely and soft (without wool as I have a major sleep type allergy) but is it wearable? If so, how?

I wear mine with opaque tights and boots.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 23/09/2016 10:11

I would wear it with me ggings or thick tights and knee length boots. I know jumper dresses get a bit of hate sometimes but I love them, nice and cosy!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 23/09/2016 10:11

I mean leggings

leadrightfoot · 23/09/2016 10:13

Wide belt if I want more shape
Opaque legwear
Boots usually knee high

poppym12 · 23/09/2016 10:30

I didn't expect it to be as long as it is. Usually when I order something with longline or tunic in the title, it turns out to be just as long as the very widest part of my body (tops of thighs) so accentuates what I'm trying to disguise.

I don't have any knee high boots. Can anyone recommend some non leather boots for fat calves?

Link? I love jumper dresses (wear with opaques and boots)

StrawberrytallCake · 23/09/2016 10:37

I would go for ankle rather than knee high and a long coat in winter or sleeveless coat in Autumn, depending on how it fits.

StrawberrytallCake · 23/09/2016 10:37

No tights in Autumn, tights in winter!

PurpleDaisies · 23/09/2016 10:38

I'm wearing tights now. I haven't been arrested by the fashion police yet...

Blue2014 · 23/09/2016 10:45

Primark and market stalls for wide fitting non leather boots

flowery · 23/09/2016 10:47

"No tights in Autumn, tights in winter!"

Don't know where you live but if my legs were bare during Autumn they'd be blue and goose pimply. Not a look I favour!

StrawberrytallCake · 23/09/2016 10:54

Confused I'm only saying what I do......not suggesting it's in any way fashionable.

Everyday tan for my blue legs, and if it's a long dress there are a matter of inches between boots and dress end!

StrawberrytallCake · 23/09/2016 10:55

I'm also classing right now as Autumn and where I live it's between 14-18c in the day this week, if I wore tights I would be a bit grim and sweaty!

It's this one, laCerb

Not usually somewhere I'd buy from but I wanted a long grey jumper without wool. It's really soft but I'm wondering whether to just send it back now as I might not feel comfortable in it. Would dearly love a change from jeans every day but I'm not happy with my size lately so don't have much confidence.

I never wear tights or leggings but I think they can look really good on other people. If I'm not wearing jeans, it must be summer and I have a tan. However, tan has now disappeared and I've reverted back to jeans. Really bored with my lack of style so I want to change it.

Keep the jumper dress! I really like it (I'm a size 20 and can carry off such dresses, if you are smaller than me then you'll look fab!)

AmberGreyson · 23/09/2016 11:33

with tights and boots if it's cold I can add a scarf

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/09/2016 11:36

If it's knee length, I wouldn't go with knee high boots, you need some leg in between. How about ankle boots?

poppym12 · 23/09/2016 11:55

I've got excessive lots of ankle boots. Currently I'm size 16 so could I get away with wearing legging with it? I bought the large but it's really huge so may need to add a belt?

poppy I am a non-leather wearer, I got some boots from Forever 21 (zip side , lace-up front so you could adjust the width)
I tried some M&S ones, they were soooooooooooo confy but looked a bit clumpy Sad

I've had a couple of jumper dresses (fine knit, I can't wear anything too thick with the old hormonal flushes) but they weren't for me Sad

poppym12 · 23/09/2016 12:11

Thanks 70. Not sure I've ever seen a forever 21 store but I'll check the website. I can't wear anything too thick, too tight or that fits too close to my throat. Plus i think I'm at hot flush stage. Add wool and lanolin allergy and non leather/suede/silk to the mix, I'm so easy to dress HmmGrin

Another dim question but what's the difference between leggings and opaque tights with how they look? Is it the seams in leggings? I'm thinking I'd go for footless tights anyway so shall I just get leggings? And just to confuse me even more, I've found seam free leggings.

Blowfish is a good brand for comfy non leather footwear. I don't wear leather and hate wearing cheap uncomfy shoes but find blowfish quite good. They're a vegan brand but available in Office etc. The Granola sandals are especially brilliant and really comfy. Non leather comfy sandals (that aren't flip flops) are like hen's teeth.

ZaraW · 23/09/2016 15:17

I wouldn't wear a jumper dress with a wide belt it's a bit 80's. I wear with ankle boots and if it's cold opaque tights.

hollieberrie · 23/09/2016 15:29

Ooh, lovely dress. I am a big fan of jumper dresses. In this weather i wear them with bare legs and Converse type footwear, like this...

In winter, with tights and Converse (i like casual) or ankle boots if i want to be smarter. I think leggings kind of ruin the look, and add bulk, on me anyway. Opaque tights defo more flattering IMO.
