Oh shit, BTM. I must have missed why he went for the blood tests in the first place - has he just been under the weather?

motherinferior · 08/10/2016 17:58

It may distract you to hear that DP has indeed draped the kitchen with washing. DD2 and I braved Oxford St and found her the denim dungarees she craves (my daughters both now look like members of Dexy's Midnight Runners - secretly I think this is terrific) and purchased some Respectable Black Comfypants which fill DP with barely masked horror.GrinGrinGrin

Collymollypuff · 08/10/2016 19:14

Sorry if I'm being simplistic, BTM, but do the doctors know that you've been on a tropical holiday? Some things you can pick up in the tropics are hard to diagnose so it might be worth mentioning it. (I may however be talking out of my well-practised arse.)

bigTillyMint · 08/10/2016 19:22

Thanks crepies. I'm feeling more positive now.

Molly, that's a good point and I'll mention it when we get to the appointment (got to get the letter first!)

MontserratCaballe · 08/10/2016 19:22

Gosh, BTM, that sounds worrying. I'm afraid I can't remember his symptoms or what led him to get the bloods done. Am thinking of you Flowers

MI, enjoyed the dexys midnight runners dungarees. And you have new pants too! We have been hair crimping like 1982 (see pics on FB).

Strangely tired and slumped in front of strictly waiting for a take away.

BTM - get them to test for malaria. Molly is right, low white blood cell count can be a symptom in a number of tropical diseases. Ask your GP if they can check for malaria sooner rather than later. How is he in himself?

DD1 managed to navigate the stressful change of trains at Leamington Spa. She happily flies to Moscow on her own, but can't change trains at a small station without it causing major stress. She is a funny fish.

There's always the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, which used to be walk-in - presumably it still is. I availed myself of their services once after a tropical trip and funny tummy - they were great - a friend told me to get myself straight over there, and it was easy. It was overkill, for me, going there, but I mention its existence anyway.

Blackduck · 09/10/2016 07:59

BTM hope it gets sorted..

Here we purchased ds his first ever pair of jeans (he has always avoided trousers up to now - preferring to wear jogger type bottoms) - these only emphasis his skinny little legs and complete lack of a waist - he could get in the twice round the middle!!

picking Flash up from Corley Services today.....

I think the perfect support we are looking for in our old age probably doesn't exist - mores the pity!

Shall we meet in the bar?

BTM, hope you get the appointment soon. I wonder if it is worth leaving message for the lovely doc about your travels, just in case that is potentially relevant and the referrals could happen in parallel? Just a thought.

motherinferior · 09/10/2016 10:32

Oh yes, let's meet.

herbaceous · 09/10/2016 10:59

Bar. Yes.

As long as DP gets home from work in time for handover, that is. Otherwise save me a crepey space!

bigTillyMint · 09/10/2016 11:05

Thanks everyone.
It could well be linked to his not eating enough/too much exercise/losing weight and I will definitely mention our travels to the doc.
I also have a low WBC count (but not as low as his) plus enlarged red blood cells and have been under the Haematology consultant for over 10 years now with all sorts of tests (including bone marrow take) but no sign of anything awful.
So fingers crossed - not sure how soon it will come through.
He's gone off happily to play his footy match with DH anyway.

BD, looking forward to updates Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/10/2016 12:32

I am excited about Flash's arrival! But I suspect not as excited as BD, Master BD or Flash himself.

DD1 has reported that cat has yowled so much in our absence that he is hoarse. 😢

CointreauVersial · 09/10/2016 12:40

BTM - maybe it's some sort of hereditary blood thing? At least yours has proved controllable.

BD - oooh, exciting doggy arrival! Awaiting updates.....

This morning I did something I've never done before in all my 49.5 years on this earth - I waxed my upper lip!! I've never passed any heed to my 'tache before (see also eyebrows, which I only really started giving attention to last year); luckily I'm not remotely "hirsute", but I just thought maybe it was something I ought to be doing......it didn't hurt at all, in fact the most painful aspect was scrubbing the wax remnants off my face afterwards.

Anyway, I shall be taking my hair-free upper lip to the cinema later - DH and I have booked tickets for The Girl on the Train. I enjoyed the book, although I'm a bit sniffy that the film-makers felt the need to relocate the story to the US.

motherinferior · 09/10/2016 12:59

I can't do today. Not in a huge global depression sense but I'm just not very good at it. So far all I have achieved is taking some DVDs upstairs and attempting to put some words on the page. I may set self Small Goal of putting away summer shirts and hanging up jumpers but really that isn't much of a fulfilling life, is it...

Cremolafoam · 09/10/2016 13:12

Btm, hope things turn out ok for ds.
So sorry you have the worry about him.Sad
BD omg! Flash comes today!!!!
Whoot! So excited for you. Hope its love at first sight from him to you iyswim.Grin
MI sorry you are having a down sort of day. Hope things pick upzCakeWine
I am getting a blow dry in half arsed attempt to fill self with confidence for the week ahead.
Have been in touch with local 2nd hand dealer in France, but its very short notice fir a Frenchman. He would like a couple of months notice to get things sorted appaz.
Mum not communicating at all, so dear knows what is secretly planned.
Feeling sick.Envy

Lalsy · 09/10/2016 13:13

MI, I honestly think small goal followed by small treat and repeat, when one is feeling low, is the best tactic assuming most/some days are not like that. Some will be, because of the year you have had, and you are doing all the "right" things, exercise, work, novel, family, social life, choir - but some of it will feel like going through the motions for a while. That is my experience anyway.

Lalsy · 09/10/2016 13:14

Crem, sorry, X post. Much strength Flowers.

CV, what did you use? I have a definite 'tache and maybe the time has come to deal with it but anything painful or technically challenging is out of the question.

magimedi · 09/10/2016 13:16

Waving feebly & sending sympathy and/or Wine to all who need it.

Have been laid totally out by this cold I came back from France with - 2.5 weeks in & am still coughing & blowing like a walrus. Anything I do & I have to sit down & recover - it's a really knock out virus.

Have been reading but haven't had the energy to type - so hope this is a good omen & the bloody thing goes soon.

magimedi · 09/10/2016 13:18

I use Veet warm wax for my upper lip - you heat it in the microwave. Have been using it for some years. Any residue comes off easily with a wet flannel.

Do NOT attempt it if you are feeling really hormonal or ill as you are far more likely to get a rash/reaction.

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/10/2016 14:26

I use an epistick for my chin and tache. Chin doesn't hurt at all, tache can be a bit ouchy.

I am really tired today and DH is proposing another long walk and a museum. I just wanted to get the subway to Macy's to get some presents for the girls.
