NU, thank you for the photo!! Grin

NUFC69 · 21/09/2016 20:18

I am now poolside in Scottsdale and it is sooo hot. The sky is a bright blue and there isn't a cloud in the sky. Bliss. A week here before we go home.

I had an embarrassing moment at a swimming pool when I was about 11; swanky new cotton swimsuit with a halter neckline held on by buttons. I dived in the pool and came up with the bra top round my waist. Ooh the shame ( it was a mixed swimming class).

Thanks for the new thread, MrsS.

Parents' evening for DD1. General verdict: could do bloody well if she pull out all the stops. She doesn't always realise how well she could do and I really want her to...

Lalsy · 21/09/2016 20:52

I am prone to clothing catastrophes and have never understood halternecks.....the only time I wore one, I got knocked over by a wave, and thrown up, topless, at the feet of my friends and family Blush. That place looks gorgeous, NU - hope you have a great week.

Stropps, go ds! That is brilliant...... And I suppose at least dd is there and answering messages - I am crossing everything for you that she is a bit more forthcoming soon.

I have just attempted to engage ds in a UCAS conversation...might as well have asked him to talk about my mooncup. He is pretending to be convinced that no-one else talks to their parents, partners, anyone about important applications or decisions, and that the week before the deadline will be ample time to start. dd, meanwhile, is facing a tough old term but I am going to see her in couple of weeks.

I am tired and grumpy.

Collymollypuff · 21/09/2016 21:02

Grin at UCAS v. mooncup. Been there, done that.

bigTillyMint · 21/09/2016 21:05

Yay Stropps! Re MU! and DS! And DD not hassling you ATM. And the blue egg [grinA

Eeek Justme and NU! Reminds me of when DH forgot his speedos in a French swimming pool and was lent a pair. They were too big and then went see-through in the water Grin I'm sure all the French maman's thought he was a paedo because he didn't dare move out of the toddler pool Grin

Lalsy, halternecks are my favourite and my best - great for the small of boobicle! Sorry to hear you are tired and grumpy, but glad you didn't try to engage your DS in a convo about your mooncup Grin

CointreauVersial · 21/09/2016 21:14

I can't recall ever having skinny dipped....I didn't have a remotely racy youth, alas.

Good news about DS, Strops - always nice to have your DCs getting attention for all the right reasons.

Enjoy, NU - looks heavenly.

Meanwhile, I'm absolutely bushed. Having increased my hours my workload seems to have gone "whoomp!" and more than filled the extra time. I'm off on a course for the next two days - Advanced MS Access (ooo!). Having decided not to do the Beginners/Intermediate course, they sent me a mini-exam to prove I'd be able to keep up - it was a bit of a head-scratcher, as I last had training about 20 years ago, but I just about got through it.

DH has just gone off to fetch DD1. She went on a theatre trip today, in Hammersmith (The Things I Know To Be True), but when they got onto the coach to come home it started smoking alarmingly, and they had to all get off again and retire to the theatre bar. Four hours later (!) they finally found a replacement coach.

MrsWobble3 · 21/09/2016 21:50

For any of you in easy reach of Victoria i recommend Waiting for waiting for Godot at the St James Theatre. Dd1 has no knowledge of the original but still found it a good evening. I'm going to miss her when she returns to uni at the weekend - since the relief of the result she has been fantastic company - she must have been under really immense stress. I do wonder what we are doing to our youngsters sometimes - do they really need such pressure so young. Growing up is pretty hard anyway I think.

So far this week she has cooked dinner, got my car MOTd, had successive and successful arguments with Monarch to get a flight refund and tomorrow she is taking the cats to the vet for their annual checkup. Next week normal service will be resumed with dh and me both finding reasons why the other is better placed for domestic admin.

herbaceous thanks for explaining, if you lot could keep this up for the next 30 years then maybe I'll join in. For now I'll just deny that one day too I'll be dealing with menopause... maybe science will have "fixed" it by then Smile

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 21/09/2016 22:43

I think a T shirt with 'Do you want to talk about UCAS or my mooncup?' could be a winner!

Things still a bit shit here. Feeling very stressed. I feel like ds's personal medical PA organising multiple meetings with the multiple branches of the same organisation which seem to occur daily, while trying to 'maintain a normal routine' Confused it's not easy this parenting shit!

Lalsy · 21/09/2016 23:09

GrinGrin Ideal stocking filler for year 13s?

Sorry things so tough, Beachy. Hope they can get the right help sorted.

Older, we'll do our best!

Collymollypuff · 21/09/2016 23:53

Sorry to hear that, Beachy. Sad It sounds very tough. Thinking of Rudy and her ds too.

Olderthanyouthink, we'll wait for you. Grin

Blackduck · 22/09/2016 07:00

Beachy, so sorry you are another of us going through teen hell with your DS. You are doing a great job of supporting and organising appointmentsFlowers

Rudy, how is your DS coping with back-to-school? And the one off to uni?!

Off on a course this morningSmile

wordassociationfootball · 22/09/2016 07:35

DH says Dd2 talked in her sleep.

She said, 'LOL'

Grin

Started work at 5.50 yesterday, finished for Bake Off.

Ordered the Hush star jumper in a couple of the colours which should arrive today or tomorrow.
When I am less busy I will order the schmancy sit/stand fedk I have seen (has a gas hydraulic system and everything) my back is getting more curved and my shoulders more rounded and my hump more hunpy by the day. Standout g to work appaz burns off tonso cals n all.

NU your pool looks gorge.

Crem - are you naked yet love?

wordassociationfootball · 22/09/2016 07:39

Fedk equals desk.

Beachy that does sound stresdful Brew

MI - that's encouraging. Is dd1 hopeful/positive?

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2016 07:44

I am loving all our fat-fingers/no glasses typos (it's not just you WAF, it's all of usShock) Grin

wordassociationfootball · 22/09/2016 07:53

Smile BTM. I blame tech

motherinferior · 22/09/2016 08:39

WAF, I think she's a bit overwhelmed by the work involved : several teachers said "I really want this A* for you and if you put the work in you'll get it" and in some ways that's more stressful than not being capable of it. Also, of course, she feels So Overworked already and the fact that her parents have actually gone through worse is of course not remotely relevant Grin.

I also love the drama teacher who thought I was Considerably Younger than I am.Smile

DP off sick. Though not so sick he is incapable of suggesting I repair to share his sickbedWink

motherinferior · 22/09/2016 08:39

More to the point: BeachyFlowersFlowers

Auriga · 22/09/2016 09:05

MI I found that some teachers put far too much pressure on, as if an A would be a terrible disappointment. Worst was head of music, who told DD she should get full marks for her instrumental performance ffs.

Beachy, well done on the medical PA duties. It is frustrating that people always assume mothers (and daughters) have more time than everyone else. With DM, I got tired of people asking me to do things that were actually their job. Had to remind some of them that I also had a job and this wasn't it.

Away for work till Saturday. Was afraid I'd seen the last of DCat, who didn't eat for two days but DH says she's rallied again

Rosebag · 22/09/2016 09:51

Perhaps some teachers and probably a lot of parents sadly lose sight of that fact that this is about getting an education...not pleasing the teacher and getting them a full house of A*s. It can't be good if students think they've let their teachers down as well as themselves and their parents. The weight of responsibility is just too great Sad

Sorry for those who are snuffling or suffering man flu by proxy. Beachy kbo sweetheart Flowers it won't stay this horrible forever. Will be in touch re half term. waf how is DH? Stress can't be helping your back problems.

herbs I have found a scribe fortunately...its expenses only I'm afraid!

I have ordered the two long sweaters from Great Plains. There is a rather nice 20% off code on the web site. Then I got on a roll and ordered two more from LandsEnd. There is an even nicer 30% off code which plopped into my inbox today. Blush

Am meeting MBE friend for a coffee shortly....bit ambivalent as she usually tries to get me to help her with this and help her with that...presumably so she can get her DBE in due course

Then picking up scripts from printers and drawing a scary sum with which to pay the thesps next week. Then getting new course ready for a class tonight. Sexy Young Director is observing. He sent me a rather norty email about massage and "his strong fingers". I kid you not. How would you reply.....????? Shock

motherinferior · 22/09/2016 10:11

I do take your point, and I need to think about that - on the other hand I do want DD1 to get it into her pretty little head that she's not as thick as she thinks she is even if she's not one of the Amazing Girls of her year (who are lovely girls, just more driven and focused in a different way from DD1).

And I'd really like her to get high grades in science and maths.

I do also realise this is Not All About Me. And that DD1 is a rather lovely human being (she's one of my favourite people) and that she is far more balanced, happy and emotionally literate than I was at her age.
