If you had £100 to spend on perfume, what would you buy?

I need a new perfume. My go-to for that amount of money is the original Coco but I'm thinking of trying something new. I like spicey and warm frgrances, nothing aqua-ish or excessively flora but love anything with a cinnamon, black pepper, oriental kind of vibe. Any suggestions?

I used to love the original Fendi Theorema too but that was discontinued years ago.

Seeing as you like Chanel how about their Cuir de Russie? - leather but refined. Sniff others of the exclusifs. But that one is beautiful.

Guerlain have an oud sandalwood and great orientals . I love guerlain fragrances generally.

Tom ford - tabac or cafe ones?

And hermes do really good scents in the direction you like

I adore Shazam. It reminds me of the hippie shops of my youth, only more perfect.
I have a sample of Maxed Out that I haven't tried yet though I can't imagine it being stronger than Shazam - that's fairly assertive!

mrssmith79 · 12/09/2016 18:15

One of the cheaper Tom Ford's. Black Orchid maybe.

ladylambkin · 12/09/2016 18:21

I love Valentino Donna but may be too mainstream for you

Haven't RTFT - but having been gifted a Jo Malone perfume and bought another, I would go for 2 Jo Malones. There is loads of choice and it's quite fun choosing!

I have: 1. White Jasmine and Basil and 2. Red Roses and they are both lush. There are others that I loved - something something Pomegranate for example.

Coromandel, Ambre Narguile or Tonka Imperial.

Charlotte Tilbury has just released a new perfume, not smelt it yet but if it's anything like her make up it will be amazing!

CT is quite mainstream and that perfume will be on everyone and their MILs dog.

Also, it's very unusual to recommend something you haven't even tried.

Ooh wish I had £100 to blow on perfume ignoring the box full of bottles in the bedroom

shins · 13/09/2016 08:08

Is that you Charlotte? ;-)

Coming back to this thread I would buy Beige - a Chanel Exclusive .All the Chanel Exclusives are being reformulated to EDP and will be silly money, and possibly quite different.Beige is a beautiful Frangipani and Hawthorne and very easy and sunny to wear.

Dowser · 13/09/2016 09:55

I love Hermes perfumes.
Orange verte is my all time favourite.

IsItGinTimeYet · 13/09/2016 09:59

Jo malone basil and lime or pomegranate noir both last well. Coco mademoiselle has great staying power too.

daftbesom · 13/09/2016 14:38

Tell us what you chose, OP?

Sorry to post here OP instead of a new thread but some of the contributions really intrigued me and would welcome advice on what to try next (similar budget).

I am not a perfumista so not sure what family of scents the ones I love belong to, I think chipre?

This is what I love, on my dressing table and use all the time:
Penhaligon's Jubilee Bouquet (it was discontinued for years, love it, my fave at the moment and wearing today)
Chanel No 5 (not all the time, but it does smell amazing on me)
Miss Dior (classic, smells good on me)
Aqua di Parma Iris (tbh this is the one I wear least, a little too flowery for me, but still like for a change)
and
Clarins Eau Dynamisante layered with the body lotion otherwise it fades too fast.

I also like fresh (citrus based) colognes and patchouli. Dislike musk but what do I know? Maybe above scents have musk in it...

I don't know what else to look for, don't have time to look extensively as I am not near big department stores though I do frequent airport lounges but my nose gets easily confused resulting in dithering and defaulting to replacing old favourites above...

Any suggestions to help me narrow down what I should be smelling/going for next would be appreciated. Thank You.

Op, or anyone else who might be interested, I found a very good website fragantica.com where you can enter your favourite perfumes and it comes up with the scent family it belongs to and suggestions for others that you might like to try.

Very clever!
My problem solved plenty of suggestions on what to sniff next in there...

Looks like I like Woody Florals (and yes Musk even though I don't like it by itself) and the Chypre Floral family, and a lot of my favourites have bergamot, citrusy top notes, with florals like rose, iris and patchouli bases so it all makes sense now. It also reminded of some old favourites I had forgotten about like First (Van Cleef & Arpels), Rive Gauche (YSL), Channel no 19 and Chance, etc, etc, etc.
