I had another thread about me losing hair. Iv had a very stressful few months and wasn't looking after myself aswell as I normally do. It's the crown and at the side although it's the crown that is the worse and more on one side. Iv over hauled my diet and taking various supplements (upped my iron big time etc) I have been using rogaine for women for approx 2 weeks each night and using the plantur 39 shampoo. I don't think it's coming out as badly as it was and I know it will take a few months before the hair grows back. What shampoos/tonics have you used that have helped please?

Toa

I have never noticed new growth (as in short tufty hairs), only that my shedding slowed. Then one day I realised I didn't have to be quite so careful about how to arrange my hair over the worst patch to hide my scalp, because there was more hair.

That was about 4 months in.

It's horrible isn't it. Do you think it matters that I use more than they say? Other than the cost obviously, but they say no more than half a capful and I'm finding it hard when I'm seeing more and more scalp. That and trying to make sure it gets on my scalp and not all in my actual hair. The back is the worse to do yet the most important bit!

It increases your chances of side effects but other than that, I don't think so.

If you part your hair about 6 times across your scalp and work the foam into the parting, it should go far enough though? I haven't used more than half a cap.

The other thing is - hair loss is very, very common. Since my own, I've noticed other people's loss very much more. It's not unusual for half the over-40 women in the room to have some degree of thinning, I see it particularly in meetings at work. Nioxin works, the V05 Plump it up hair sprays are very helpful, get your hairdresser on side with a flattering cut. I went from a one-length bob to a graduated layered one with a fringe, and it made a massive difference to how I looked and felt.

If got a trial sample thing of Nioxin shamp off amazon to try. I got some castor oil also (have a look at another thread that is going with someone sAying how long their eye lashes have grown since using it!) so I'm going to try that too I'm that desperate!! I'm wrong, it hasn't been 4 weeks it has only been 3, maybe mine is getting worse naturally as apposed to the regaine process?

You've got to give it time-months not weeks. I experienced dramatic hair loss in my 20's 6 months after having glandular fever, the amount that came out was really upsetting but it did stop on its own and regained its thickness. I think what I'm experiencing now if just due to my age/genetics. I really hope it settles down for you but it will take a few months I expect.

Have you shared it with anyone in real life? I can't bring myself to tell DH,it'll make it too real.

My family are aware. Nothing any one can do to help so not somethings that comes up in conversation so they aren't exactly 'supportive'

The Nioxin has arrived but it is all foreign (hope I haven't bought dud stuff?!) Iv seen their website. I have a small shampoo and conditioner and what looks like sunscreen for hair?! The leaflet has no English at all, the only English is inside label on the bottles and says massage into scalp etc. Anything or tips I need t know before trying?!

For non coloured hair would you buy Nioxin 2?

Is there anywhere to buy higher doses of ferritin online or does it have to be gp? I can't find more than 5mg.

Does the vitamin D really help?

Is it worth buying the set of three different things or is just the shampoo ok?

It is possible to get private blood tests to check for iron levels etc.

Also be aware that that the standard TSH test for thyroid may be in the "normal" range whilst you are still getting symptoms.

Leave the shampoo and conditioner on for a few minutes, otherwise no special instructions.

I don't bother with the sunscreen as I tend to wear hats in sunny weather.

Thanks speckledy, I'm going to use it tomorrow. Have you seen the castor oil thread? I bought some, seeing people rave about hair growth but I then googled and came across a website where people said it made their lose worse and even made them lose eye lashes (when using on them obv) so I don't think o should try that.... Although I'm desperate

I have, but having spent £60 on useless Nourkrin supplements when all this kicked off I've learned to stick with one big thing at a time, to be honest. Also I'm prone to the odd spot and the poster who developed cystic acne put me off....

Report
Anothernamechanger1 · 10/09/2016 18:10

Yes I agreed with that poster about the acne although I don't know how putting it on your scalp or just eyebrows/lashes would give acne ? Unless she perhaps was smearing it in the eye brows and it got onto her skin surrounding area. Or perhaps she was using it on her face, as many do. I can't use oils on my face, I had to have roaccutane a few years ago because of my skin, so I also, am put off because of that. I'm currently sporting 3 spots along my jaw on one side when I haven't had any big ones for ages!!!!

I got acne on my face from T Gel shampoo, I guess it just spreads when you're washing it off.

Right. I have used the Nioxin today. Hair feels nice. What benefit have you found from using it?

Ever green my GP was also useless. It was only really coming on here and researching about ferritin levels etc that I knew where I needed to start!

Can you/do you just demand a blood test for ferritin?
