What are you hoping to find now the A/W stuff is coming into the shops?

I'm after a proper old fashioned denim mini (not too mini though!) skirt, straight not A-line and no buttons. I realise that this is far from being 'in' but I like them.

I also want some really lovely big scarves - ideally a burnt orange one, a bright pink one and a red one.

Also, a pleated red skirt and the perfect grey v neck jumper.

You?

well, it was ''who the hell are they aiming at?'' etc and look at this monstrosity. But tbh, I see things on finery that make me howl laughing. I dislike a lot but I can always find something in there. I like autograph too and limited collection.

Turntopage394 · 06/09/2016 22:49

A pair of flat grey ankle boots
A leather jacket possibly tan
A knee length navy polka dot dress
Some decent tights as I've laddered all mine
A structured nude/tan bag
A grey scoop neck jumper

I'm currently getting rid of 90% of my clothes to rebuild my wardrobe into a more practical collection instead of having way too many clothes that don't go into outfits.

Rollerbird · 06/09/2016 23:08

Im also all for the grey boots (possibly navy for me too)
A jacket to wear with jeans and Short skirts and dresses (leather maybe But Im an f cup - Unsure of cut to go for)

EnidButton · 06/09/2016 23:44

I keep being lured in by grey suede jackets, bags and boots but then remember how they'd look after 5 minutes outside here.

Grey suede is so beautiful though.

EnidButton · 06/09/2016 23:46

I still just want dresses with sleeves. I'm not succumbing to putting a t shirt under a sleeveless one. It's not 1997.

taybert · 07/09/2016 06:49

I bought some grey nubuck ankle boots last year. I've worn them twice.

DailyFailAteMyFish · 07/09/2016 08:42

Oo flat greay ankle boots could be worn with navy tights and dresses. flaps hands with excitement
Scurries off to search the internet.

EnidButton · 07/09/2016 13:27

Mint Velvet are the Queens of Grey everything. Never tried their boots but they look gorgeous. Also All Saints but they're pretty spendy and not much in, in the way of boots yet.

EnidButton · 07/09/2016 15:32

I bought the star skirt and star skirt from Hush. Not to wear together obviously! Yet to try on but the shirt looks particularly nice. Not exactly A/W wear I suppose, although the skirt should look nice with opaques and a jumper. Fingers crossed. I don't usually get on with Hush skirts.

If the shirt is a keeper then I need to find a nice black cami or vest for under it. The one with it on the hush site looks gorgeous but it's £80. Can't justify paying that for a whisper of silk and lace really.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2016 18:15

Just got some grey skinnies from M&S. I actually like quite a few things in there at the moment, although they don't always get the fabric right. Some of the colours and shapes are much more appealing than usual. I agree with the comment earlier, though - I don't really hate M&S and can usual find one or two things I like, even when I hate lots of it.

Also I still think they are pretty good quality and value, apart from t-shirts that seem to go shorter and wider after a couple of washes.

Floisme · 07/09/2016 18:32

Yup, there's always going to be stuff you don't like in M&S but what other shop tries to dress everyone from cradle to grave? I know that presents its own problems but personally I think it would be a bit sad if they changed it.

Floisme · 07/09/2016 18:39

My other news is a vintage, chinese brocade pencil skirt - perfect for my 60th and only 15 quid heh heh heh.

Still no coat but I'm caring less and less.

Nearlyadoctor · 07/09/2016 18:58

I missed the post slating M&S as well, but again like Flo would have defended them. Autograph and Collection occasionally have some nice things and for basics are often hard to beat. (Although like Remus would not buy their t shirts). This Autumn I quite like a few bits, other times none, but I think that's true of a lot of high street retailers.
When Per Una was launched about 18/19 years it was supposed to be aimed at a younger age group- but over the past few years seems to have totally lost its way and now caters for over 80's I think!

I know I would miss them if they were to go!

Nearlyadoctor · 07/09/2016 19:00

I have noticed of late a lot more polyester in M&S - but again like anywhere you have to be choosy and buy decent fabrics.

Cellardoor23 · 07/09/2016 19:23

There is a lot of polyester around now you're right, even for expensive items. I picked up a Ted baker blazer the other day. Over £100 for 100% poleyester.

Nearlyadoctor · 07/09/2016 19:54

Cellar was it you who linked the Joules Metallic hare scarf? ( possibly on another thread)
I ordered the hare and the horse one for birthday presents - both gorgeous, actually keeping the hare one for myself.

Cellardoor23 · 07/09/2016 19:58

Yeah. I have the hare one. I love it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2016 20:26

Flo - I think the fact that they are the store that tries to dress everybody from the cradle to the grave is actually why it makes me so cross when they get it so wrong.

Timeless basics is what's needed there - nice quality, plain baby and children's clothes; good basic jeans, t-shirts, jumpers and work wear; plain dresses and trousers etc. Things that women/men of lots of ages can adapt and 'dress' to make them their own, rather than things that are already trying to be 'statement' or 'fashion forward' or whatever crap the advertisers have come out with this time.

Do far, far fewer items, but do them far, far better.

Are you listening, M&S? Remus has spoken!

Nearlyadoctor · 07/09/2016 20:33

I agree re plain good quality children's clothes, the past couple of seasons baby and 1-7 years have been lovely but 5-14 years have been awful. Polyester, sequins, acrylic jumpers and trying to dress little girls as 'chavtastic' teenagers.

EnidButton · 07/09/2016 21:17

Tried the hush things on. The star skirt was almost bordering on little girl going to a tea party, because it sticks out about 1 inch too much, but I like it enough to keep it. Just need to work out what to put with it. Need to toughen it up a bit. It works well with a leather jacket but need a top or jumper.

Shirt is very nice. Good with jacket. Similar problem though, no idea what to wear on the bottom. Too short for skinny jeans because of my shape (hourglass = carrot legs). Tried it with their black ruched skirt and opaques and I look like I'm going to work.

Need it to work as smart casual, going to the pub or theatre, that kind of thing. Any suggestions please?

I just want to get one full outfit sorted instead of bits.

CaitAgusMadra · 07/09/2016 21:58

Nice shirt but bloody hell, that's expensive for 100% polyester. Oasis are doing a similar shirt in cotton link to Irish site hope it wotks for less than half the price.

I would style with skinnies or coated skinnies . Have you tried it with the ruched skirt, ankle boots but bare legs? Might look less officey that way. Also would possibly look good half tucked into boyfriend jeans with nice strappy heels

CaitAgusMadra · 07/09/2016 22:04

I got these leather boots today for €52 (Oasis via ASoS). Delighted with my bargain, they are v similar to another pair I was considering for double the price. Hopefully they'll be keepers

What are you hoping to find now the A/W stuff is coming into the shops?
EnidButton · 07/09/2016 22:29

Cait It is a stupid price I agree. It's nicer in rl but yes overpriced for what it is. I like the oasis shirt, might get that to try too. The Hush shirt is a lot more sheer and has some detail down the front. Grin

Legs are too pale to go bare especially against black and the skirt is very short. I want it for Autumn/Winter too and it's freezing here. So maybe have to be black skinnies.

I like those boots!

Floisme · 08/09/2016 07:12

Remus I agree about M&S T shirts - they're either 50% modal or really cheap cotton that doesn't hang well. I would happily pay double if they got that right.

I also want flat grey ankle boots but preferably not suede as I always trash it. I like those Oasis ones but don't want a heel.
