I think Jamie Bells ears are bigger! And DSs hair is lighter (though he is sporting a 1980s barnet!), and his jaw a teeny bit widea, but he looks a bit like him in the pics of JB aged about 18 which I am incapable of linking to

Scuppered on sundowner front as it is raining Sad Though still hot Wink However no we get to try the huge complimentary umbrellas! Not sure how we'll fit them down the street with the mad traffic/pedestrians Grin

Very well done Miniature Rose.Star

Stropps, oh God, I know it feels like the end of the known world , but keep thinking not University NOW, but later on. It ain't over til the fat lady sings, and I'm not doing that today.
Look , I don't know what's wrong with Weymouth College, but if she has a an aversion, then you can work on that, I reckon. Do not do anything now, as you are both staring into the void. Back away. And you know that sometimes there is actually nothing to say. Distraction might work?

Herbs well done you, on getting the carer sorted, writing done and everyone packed for trip. Hope dp has since woken up and you are all having a good time.

I am cooking. I forgot that I'd invited friends over on Sunday. Shite.

Anybody else's family already talking about Christmas arrangements. Honestly I despair. can I just get August over with, and enjoy what's left of it without having to decide where I'm suffering'eating turkey.
Angry

I have done my first ladyrun for 6 ( vi , six) years. My leg was ok, but my toes got cramp-wtf? Not totally horrendous.

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2016 16:46

Christmas Lalsy?!! Mind you, I hope we may be making plans for Twixmas/New Year with our dear friends when they come down for the weekendGrin

And well done on the Ladyrunning. I did go to the gym this morning, but how quickly one loses fitness. Hope I can keep up with my friend when we go walking later!

Have been to see the doc (couldn't believe I got an appointment so fast - must be the holidays!) and she has put me back on my original HRT (god knows why I ever changed from it!) with the proviso that if the bleeding doesn't stop over the next month or so, she will refer me to the gynae at the Menopause Clinic.

Crem, that is brilliant! Well done. I have had cramp in my toes too, weird.

Herbs have a great time and of course o letting dh sleep it off!

Stropperella · 18/08/2016 17:12

Crem, very well done on the run. That must feel good (aside from the crampy toes, obvs).

Well done to Rose's ds. I know he had an unconditional offer, but still it's lovely to have an excellent clutch of results in the bag.

Well done to BTM's dd and Lalsy's ds also. I need to read the thread back, I'm being rubbish with my congratulation because I've not had my eye on the ball today.

BREAKING NEWS: dd has a place to do Economics at a perfectly decent university in the West Country. She is doing a foundation year to make up for her crap A level grades. Good that she had excellent GCSE grades. Phew. I looked up this particular university to see if they had any spaces on courses with foundation years and then stuck the details under her nose. She rang them and got an offer. They will check back in a few days to see if the course is really a good fit for her, but they have some other options they can offer her if she decides against Economics. She is also mighty pleased because at least 2 of her friends are going to the same university.

OMG the relief. Maybe she'll go, and maybe she won't, but at least she's now got the choice.

Now have to deal with medical matters. This has been a helluva day.

Stropperella · 18/08/2016 17:14

Herbs, have a lovely holiday (mk 2) and glad to hear that your dm is home and carers are sorted. Hope everything goes smoothly.

Collymollypuff · 18/08/2016 17:21

Stropps, that is AMAZING!

TAKE FULL CREDIT

herbaceous · 18/08/2016 17:22

Yay Stropps! How excellently brilliant.

magimedi · 18/08/2016 17:22

Stropps you are amazing to have that sorted in half a day. Such a relief for you.

Crem, the family always used to bring up the 'C' word at this time of year & it drove me crazy. Early December is about time for all of that.

Stropperella · 18/08/2016 17:22

Thank you, Molly GrinGrinGrin

Stropperella · 18/08/2016 17:24

And thankfully she had already considered the likelihood of possibly needing a foundation year, so had applied for 5 years funding back in May. Hurrah.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 18/08/2016 17:29

Oh Stropps, horrible day BUT do remember that she effectively signed out of school and wasn't even going to attend lessons, let alone exams. So hats off to her for actually getting where she has got to, it's been good practice and one of those 'life lessons', I guess. She's a fighter and will succeed, one way or another. Hope you made your appointment.

Well done to all others who have now got the dreaded results day over and done with.

I am having a waste of a day - I cleared the house of girls, I set aside time to help ds go through his books, attempt some of the summer homework set and generally try to switch his brain back on. He's gone back to bed..... I'm already dreading next year Sad

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 18/08/2016 17:30

OK, took so long to post, thread moved on.... that'll teach me Flowers

Blackduck · 18/08/2016 17:34

Stropps Grin. - yes couple of friends DCs have gone the foundation route.... This is actually what admins son has - he's now rethinking and will probably resit.....,
Sheesh there are parents all over the country in need if a swift drink or three :)

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 18/08/2016 17:36

Yeah for Stropps Major. A fair few of dd1's mates did Foundation years and it's really worked out well for all of them.

I'm really pleased that she's pleased, IYKWIM..... and full credit to you, Stropps.

Dd1 found out this morning that she didn't get halls and is having to contemplate a house with strangers next year. She's so excited about the course but so not happy about where and who she might be living with.

Lalsy · 18/08/2016 17:43

Wooo hoooooo. That is fantastic. Take a bow, the stropps family. And a big glass of wine and a deep breath.

hattymattie · 18/08/2016 17:55

Stropps fantastic news for DD. Well done to you - agree you are an amazing Mum

bigTillyMint · 18/08/2016 17:59

Beachy, that happened to me! I moved into a typical old student house on the other side of town to my site, with 3 2nd years and a 4th year (who was a boring misery-nuts) - they were all really nice and normal and kept me just about on track! I ended up living with them (the 2nd years!) for the next 3 years too in a different and much nicer flat in the centre of town because one of them knew someone whose dad knew the manager of the housing association!

Stropps, after today you deserve a bucket of Prosecco StarStarStar or whatever you fancy!

But if she does end up with people she just can't get on with, I'm sure there will be possibilities to move out.

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/08/2016 18:22

Oh hoorah Stropps that it has turned out OK! And as you say, at least she has the choice. I monumentally fucked up my A levels. I resat them in the November, got exactly the same grades again BUT when I applied for university this time round, I got two unconditional offers. I didn't go in the end, but it was nice to know that the option was there.

You deserve a Large Wine, Stropps. Grin

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 18/08/2016 18:24

I thought we could put dd1 in this lovely house. Wouldn't want to wake up with a hangover there, that's for sure! But you'd always find your way home after a big night out.....

Cremolafoam · 18/08/2016 18:24

Ah Stropps, thanks to you , brilliant you!!!! Dd has a choice. Please pat yourself on the back. Sorry there are med issues on top of everything else. You are completely wonderful.

Beachy, what are dds friends doing ? Is there anyone with whom she could get a private 2 bed share ?

motherinferior · 18/08/2016 18:29

Stropps, that is beyond terrific WineStarStarStarWine

Nice day here with a lot of Outdoors. And in fact the C-word has been mentioned solely because of my dad...and because I have mooted the prospect of zipping off to India on eg the 27thGrin

addle · 18/08/2016 18:42

Stropps that's wonderful and amazing. Am SO pleased. Huge congrats to you and your Dd.

Congrats everyone - things fine this end too. Am not in work tomorrow. Drink is in order.

Rosebag · 18/08/2016 18:43

Oh that is good to hear Stropps I actually wanted to suggest a foundation degree/year but thought she might not be amenable quite yet. That is so, so good and has made my day Flowers, whatever DD decides. I hope it is the start of something better for all of you.

Beachy Flowers

Herbs I do hope you can now enjoy your break in the NE and unwind a little that well organised care is in place.

At this end, we are going to have a small meal out en famille to celebrate. I have invited DM. One of DS's gifted and really clever friends all the way back from primary school has just been rejected from Oxford AND her insurance offer, for Engineering on the strength of an A instead of an A* in one of the maths papers. She is devastated. I cant stop thinking about her. Sad I've known her since she was in nursery class.

Rosebag · 18/08/2016 18:44

addle tilly good news!! Smile

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 18/08/2016 18:45

No immediate friends going there, but a friend of a friend has offered her a space in a house with 6 or 7 in it - room looks minute and a bit grim, but they are all art students apparently.....

I have already mentioned the C word in my family, only to say I won't be joining or inviting any of them Grin. Just us and the dogs, bring it on!
