I think Jamie Bells ears are bigger! And DSs hair is lighter (though he is sporting a 1980s barnet!), and his jaw a teeny bit widea, but he looks a bit like him in the pics of JB aged about 18 which I am incapable of linking to

Scuppered on sundowner front as it is raining Sad Though still hot Wink However no we get to try the huge complimentary umbrellas! Not sure how we'll fit them down the street with the mad traffic/pedestrians Grin

Mrs S - abroad, with or without La Famille?

Stropps. I do roffle at your turn of phrase. 'Perennially enraged spaniels'. Grin

As for Helpful Friend, I did raise my hand in a 'whoa' gesture, and tell her I was in fact on the case and that was only just aware that day of the isssssues she was berating me about. No one actually asked her to bring her very own bread and milk from home, so that she then had to go and buy some more on the way home and I've got people coming at seven and flap flap...

motherinferior · 15/08/2016 20:48

Checking in here too. Many rows am fed up with being pestered for sex but we had a nice day with a friend of DP's - I could

motherinferior · 15/08/2016 20:50

...including walk up small mountain though I felt like a huge wobbly hippo as she is a whippet-like muscly yoga type (she is also very nice and I liked her hugely). Poor little DD1 a bit bug-ridden.

Cremolafoam · 15/08/2016 21:20

Och the poor child MI. No way to have a holiday. Describe to Dh all about 'flooding' and 'flushing' and general befuddlement and laugh at him for even trying it on.Fool. Also no way to conduct a holidayWinkGrin
Seriously though, I do hope Cork can offer more than walking up a mountain with a very fit person. Dolphins? Long strands? Puck Fairs? Public Houses?

I was on the other thread all day, thinking "what's wrong with everyone?" You and me both NU.Grin

Hatty hope you have a good catch up with old friends this week. Sounds most edifying.
Stropps, BTM, Molly, Rose, Rudy and any one else waiting for results day. All will be well. Thank goodness it's over soon, and that once you are past it, decisions can be made and action taken, you will all feel better regardless of actual results. IME it was like a big cloud lifting.
I did enjoy the telling of your impressionist bird Stropps. We now have a cockerel cockadoodledooing every morning, which sets the goats off climbing their climbing frame and noisily playing football at 5 in the morning. Country life is bolleaux sometimes.

Beachy I like your water based activity planning. But it does make me want to run to the loo....Blush

Cremolafoam · 15/08/2016 21:24

Oh and Lalsy, Star for Stamp Leaf Blouse. It is gorgeous and perfect interview threads. Best of everything to yooooo...

Cremolafoam · 15/08/2016 21:26

Cockerel is a neighbour's creature. not ours Biscuit

Lalsy · 15/08/2016 21:29

Thanks, Crem, and Grin at no way to conduct a holiday. Speaking of which, I have eaten too many welsh cakes and my midriff now looks like one. Sod it.

MI, I too hope you can top going up small mountain with wiry yoga type, tho it does sound nice.

Lalsy · 15/08/2016 21:29

Puck Fairs? My mind is boggling and spoonerising.

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/08/2016 21:37

Am getting really fed up with DD2 who keeps filling her face with shit, then won't eat her dinner and fills her face again with biscuits. I bought some biscuits as a treat, and some crisps, and she has eaten an entire large bag of Kettle Chips and a load of biscuits today, had a tiny piece of meat and a tablespoon of salad (moaning) for dinner and is now demanding cake/biscuits etc. Apparently it is my fault for buying these things. And she isn't getting fat (she is). And if I COOKED NICE FOOD THEN SHE WOULD EAT IT AND NOT HAVE TO FILL UP WITH CRISPS AND BISCUITS, OK?

The way I feel I will be going away on my own. With or without the cat.

Cremolafoam · 15/08/2016 21:39

Cockerel is a neighbour's creature. not ours Biscuit

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/08/2016 21:41

And DD2 is refusing to wear her retainer at night, so is being threatened with another brace (I am inclined to say, fuck you, you couldn't be bothered to wear the retainer, why should I pay out £1500 for new braces when the same thing will happen again). She is also refusing to do any of her homework, including her art project, and spends all day on Skype to her mates or playing Pokemon Go (which at least gets her out the house). I can't make her work, but she is heading for a big fat fail in a number of her GCSEs if she carries on like this. DD1 was supposed to have finished her first draft of her extended essay this holiday and has done fuck all there as well. And she goes back to school next weekend.

Cremolafoam · 15/08/2016 21:43

Oh the Puck Fair is one of the highlights of the summer season, and joyously always involve a goat.!
Pucking Great

Lalsy · 15/08/2016 21:52

Oooooooh! Love the five freedoms. Goat joy indeed.

motherinferior · 15/08/2016 22:23

MrsS, you can't force them to work but I would be LIVID about the food.

motherinferior · 15/08/2016 22:24

Oh and the brace. Just don't. It'll be another £1,500 down the drain.

addle · 15/08/2016 22:26

More info, Mrs S?

Lalsy - can't see the top but sounds perfect and good for wearing again (v important since it is not interview.

NU - hope today better and appt goes well - like Rose and many other crepeys you do do an awful lot for others - be nice to yourself

MI - hope today better with no pestering and dd feeling better

Stropps - gt pic of you and ds on FB

BTM - is lovely to enjoy your holidays vicariously

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/08/2016 22:37

MI - I am livid. I expected two large bags of pretzels, a large bag of Kettle Chips and two packets of biscuits to last longer than 24 hours. And it is clear who has eaten them. And is therefore not hungry. It is apparently my fault for buying them, not hers for not having any willpower and eating the lot.

And yes, sod the brace.

Jobs - one is in Europe, one is in sort of Central American shit hole. May just wait for something better to come along. (Sorry I don't want to be more precise than that, but if you are dying to know, I will PM you.)

Stropps - great photo of you on FB. And sorry to hear about your DD's woes. I took a gap year and am still on it...

Stropperella · 15/08/2016 22:45

Grin @ King Puck. He looks very pleased with himself. Grin On Wednesday, we shall be going on our annual visit to the same agricultural show we always go to with my dm. This year with the added frisson that my place of work is right next to the showground, so I should possibly not down as much cider as I usually do. Grin Not sure if dd will be up to coming, but I think it would be better for her to be out with us, rather than gibbering with anxiety alone at home. However, it will be her call.

MrsS, I keep most crisps and chocolate etc under lock and key and bring them out for sharing at appropriate moments. It's a shame that this is what it came to in our house, but there you go. The person who snarfs up most of them if they are simply put in the larder is perfectly capable of going and buying her own supplies of junk if she really wants it. I also hide chocolate at the back of our freezer in the garage, under packets of spinach etc. They're safe there too. Also, I'm working on portion control with ds and hiding the treats is the best thing for him too at the moment. And is always the best thing for dh. Plus, I always know that some chocolate will be there when I want some. Seems fair enough, since I am always the one doing the shopping. As for the not working - well, I'd not be paying for any more fancy trips abroad for either dd until they'd put their noses a little closer to the grindstone for an extended period.

Addle, sorry to hear you felt ugh about going back to work. Will some tweaking at work fix this, or is a major re-think needed? Hope dh's recovery is continuing apace.

MI, has all that wholesome activity last week made dp extra perky? Grin

Stropperella · 15/08/2016 22:47

MrsS, yes indeedy - sod the brace. And pls don't consider the South American shithole. You deserve somewhere more uplifting.

Collymollypuff · 15/08/2016 22:57

I would love a Puck Fair, I would.

bigTillyMint · 16/08/2016 01:25

Auriga Flowers for your DD. How scary to get that call - good job you are Ward Sister!

MrsS, aren't teen girls a joy, each in their own sweet way? HmmAngrySad
DD knew there was no chance of her getting a cosmetic brace as she still sucks her thumb, and she wouldnt be seen dead in one now!

Stropps, I have often considered putting the treats under lock and key (especially when DS was at his height of eating 5 or more bags of crisps a day and no chocolate bar was safe when DD was near.

Evening, crepesters (well, 'tis morning for you).

Our last day in SF was great - we spent most of the day in Golden Gate Park, watching a Vintage Baseball match (players of a senior nature, playing in retro outfits and equipment), riding bikes, and Instagramming the Japanese Tea Gardens. SF wheeled out the full complement of crazies on the bus back into town through Haight-Ashbury - leather-and-chained Hell's Angels, people of indeterminate gender, shouting homeless nutters - the DCs loved every minute of it. DD1 insisted on the Cheesecake Factory for tea, but it was surprisingly good.

Then, this morning we left the fog and chill of SF (16C! brrr....) behind, and after two hours of driving inland the temperature was hitting 38C (amusing sight of DCs clambering out of the car for lunch, melting instantly in hoodies and jeans Grin). I've scored a blinder with today's accommodation - we are in the Sierra Nevada mountains in a massive two-bed condo. Huge pool, BBQ, washer/dryer (is it sad that this is the most exciting amenity? Blush), less than half the price of our SF box, and let's not forget the aforementioned 38C. We have stocked the fridge and are going to veg out poolside until Wednesday when we hit Yosemite. Well, we might go and see some big trees, if we can muster the energy.

NUFC69 · 16/08/2016 07:30

My friend arrived safely yesterday and (whisper) we sat outside in the garden enjoying the weather for a couple of hours. Unfortunately when I went inside to prepare dinner we had no electricity (it's only two weeks since the electrician left) so cue panic phone call. DH eventually sorted it out and I was able to get on with my cooking, but it wasn't the leisurely meal I had anticipated.

We're off to NT Wallington Hall today with friend and the two GC we have on a Tuesday - it should be lovely as another great day so we will picnic.

MrsS, no - don't go. (In our house if any food goes missing, we can only blame ourselves, so I now try not to buy it unless I know someone is coming).

bigTillyMint · 16/08/2016 08:08

CV, I want to do your trip! I will be asking for a PM with all the deets plus Rudy and NU Smile

NU, I remember a trip to Wallington when I was about 12. I don't think I was the right age to appreciate it Grin

OP posts:
addle · 16/08/2016 08:10

CV, Sierra Nevada sounds great

NU, blimey no to the electricity - all the house kerfuffle can't be helping

Stropps, job stuff - I think it's not a good fit for me, and slightly odd place but the security .... DH may not be working for weeks yet. I need to think it through properly but feel so tired at the prospect

DD and food - ate complete crap in year 8 - bicscuits all day - then became slightly odd about it so insisted on using small utensils and eating soup rather than meals but o/wise seemed ok and now still prefers several small meals to 3 normal sized but tbh I don't see that's a big deal - there's no particular reason why DH/DS preference for pie/roasts etc is better, so as long as she joins us for meals and is civilised we just keep lots of olives/humus/pitta etc around. Suspect if it were just her and me, I'd eat very similarly. Can tell my MIL disapproves but hey.

Mrs S - not a shit hole - no fun and too far away, surely
