I think Jamie Bells ears are bigger! And DSs hair is lighter (though he is sporting a 1980s barnet!), and his jaw a teeny bit widea, but he looks a bit like him in the pics of JB aged about 18 which I am incapable of linking to

Scuppered on sundowner front as it is raining Sad Though still hot Wink However no we get to try the huge complimentary umbrellas! Not sure how we'll fit them down the street with the mad traffic/pedestrians Grin

Oh Rudy love, so sorry about ds. Hand to hold here.

Ddad has broken his hip and hand. Operation today to replace the hip, hand now semi-plastered. I haven't seen him yet, but will go up today, they were due to go to France to clear the house next week, so don't know what we can do abut that now. Poor mum is disproportionately upset about that bit, but I know it's now a bit of a nightmare, as things have to be signed for the sale. (Rah!)
I'll wait for dsis to get back from her weekend away, and then arrange for us to go out/look after dad.
Poor Maman is very fretful.Sad

Logging on isn't the happiest read this morning it must be said. Is there any news from Rudy and her DS? What a terrible worry Sad

crem your poor DDad. What a shame. I guess its quite a long recovery ahead. Sad

Oh Rudy and Cremo :(

Sending strength and good vibes. Rudy don't worry about the 'why' for now - concentrate on the treatment. Poor poor ds and as Beachy said thank god he wasn't at Reading.

Wishing you both all the best today. Crepeys it has been a bit of a year all round :(

Lalsy · 27/08/2016 08:52

Rudy, thanks for the update, poor ds, I hope they get his symptoms under control today and you get some reassuring answers. Thinking of you all.

Crem, oh no, your poor old dad. And your dm.

magimedi · 27/08/2016 09:07

Rudy your poor DS . My thoughts are with you.

Crem - I suspect your DM is feeling sad that she may not be able to go & say her farewells to the house. Hope your DF's operation goes well today.

bigTillyMint · 27/08/2016 09:07

Oh RudySad BD is right, don't worry about the why for now - the focus is on getting him better asap Flowers Thank god he didn't go to Reading and you are there to hold his hand, etc. Will be thinking of you.

Cremo - so sorry to hear about your DDad. Not surprised your DMum is in a panic, but given internet technology, etc, surely there is a way round this? Especially with you there to help Smile

Such bad news when I checked in this morning. Thanks for letting us know how things are going, Rudy. Hugs and flowers for you all. They seem so young and defenceless even though they are teens, I will be thinking of you all.

Crem, so sorry to hear about DDad, too, I hope you can get to see him soon and what a nuisance about the house sale, just to add to your worries.

Stropperella · 27/08/2016 09:17

Oh Rudy, what a blessing he did not go to Reading. Poor boy. :( Hope they are able to sort him out very soon. Thinking of you.

Crem, so sorry to hear about your ddad's broken hip. Hope the op goes smoothly and he is up and about soon. Damn poor timing with regard to the house sale. Extra stress all round :(

motherinferior · 27/08/2016 09:44

Oh darling R. I am so sorry. Please let me know if I can badger anyone/investigate anything - wish I could be more help.

To give you all a little levity, we are going on holiday this morning and DH is cleaning the kitchen. With bleach and a toothbrush.

Cremolafoam · 27/08/2016 10:26

oh Rudy , what a worry. Thank heavens he was at home, and that you had an inkling about his pain.
Dads op has been shifted up to tomorrow because of long list before him. He is morphined up to the eyeballs and is in terrible pain and scared shitless of surgery.Sad Mum is run ragged trying to cancel holiday plans. and get a proxy lawyer in France.
The difficulty is clearing the house. There are no charity shops in which to dump things. Some they have sold to the new owners, but there isstill a considerable amount of stuff ( clothes, crockery, bedding, TV etc) that needs to come home as it is either of sentimental value or actual value.
I am no use to mum in September as I am going to London, and then Reykjavik and working every day in between.
October looks better, so will perhaps go over then with dm to help clear.
We'll see. I suspect it will take Ddad a long time to recover at nearly 90.
I kind of knew something like this might happen , as last week I was swanning about thinking how everything was on an even keel again. And I didn't trust the relative calm. Oh no!

Cremolafoam · 27/08/2016 10:29

Bon Voyage Schadenfreude Family.

a toothbrush you say...? Grin

motherinferior · 27/08/2016 10:30

Crem, I have only just taken in about the hip: yes, it will take timeSad. Bugger.

Rudy, all good thoughts.

MrsS, I can think of ideal uses for that toothbrush AngryAngryAngry

Phew. That is a first step at least.

wordassociationfootball · 27/08/2016 12:11

Awful Rudy. I'm so sorry.

And Crem, what rubbish timing.

My thoughts to you both.

CointreauVersial · 27/08/2016 13:40

Rudy - poor lad. Is this the first time he's been properly ill? Hoping they can sort out the clot and find out what caused it soon. Take care.

Crem - argh! Timing really couldn't be worse, could it?

Scrubbing the kitchen with bleach and a toothbrush? If only. The cleaner didn't come this week (because we were only just back) and the family is descending tomorrow, so I am going to have to have a whip around with a damp cloth and a hoover. Frightening how filthy it gets after less than a week. DH and I spent a couple of hours in the garden yesterday pulling out the waist-high weeds that have erupted while we were away, and mowing the lawn. DH also gave one of the conifer bushes a very bad haircut.

wordassociationfootball · 27/08/2016 16:31

Crepies, (mostly Monty, unless there is another legal eagle amongst us) please advise if you could. Apols if this x-posts with anything important. I will have to dash off in a minute.

I bought a replacement for my running trainers, lets call them A, from a specialist shop. Trainers B were a different make and £100 (I know but we need all the help we can get. New A's would have been £150. Shop Boy said the B's were better than the next level down of A's so I bought B's. I could tell they were not as pillowy as A's but fifty quid... ANYWAY. The B's are awful. They make my feet hurt, particularly standing or walking in them (what I probably mostly do I guess Blush) running is not as horrible but basically, they hurt the soft tissue of my arches and ball of foot.

So I must take them back (when the crepey male owner rather than whippersnapper is there) But what is my aim? I would love to pay another fifty quid and get the A's as I don't feel I was well advised. I keep thinking of 'fit for purpose.' Surely the B's aren't - they aren't just 'not very comfortable,' they actually make my feet hurt.

Advice/thoughts on approach please.
