Insensitive comments about appearance

pamplem0usse · 13/08/2016 22:14

So I was wondering what the worst thing anyone has said to you about your appearance and what (if anything!) you did in response.
Took my dd to the nurse yesterday for her 8 week jabs and the nurse (a propo of nothing) said "whys your face so red".... I have (mild) rosacae and she proceeded to quiz me about whether it ever "went down" / itched.
This was hot off the back of another Mum asking me if baby was a boy (she's not) and congratulating me on the new pregnancy (actually the remainder of three c sections)....
Was feeling ok about myself, now down in the dumps!!!

I was told it be better looking if I lost weight by a supermarket cashier once...
I was only a teenager and not overweight at the time Shock

ILoveFudge · 13/08/2016 22:23

I'd not it!

ImperialBlether · 13/08/2016 22:26

That nurse sounded very insensitive (and ignorant, too, if she didn't know why your skin was red.)

Lilacpink40 · 13/08/2016 22:30

I have a friend who always says "you look tired" when we meet, but I've noticed she does this with others too. I think she's trying to be caring and says it in a way to encourage others to vent problems.

Your nurse sounds nosey and thoughtless. She's probably like this with everyone.

I have lost weight, not intentionally just been busy. Friend said 'you need to stop now, you look guant and have little girl arms'. I am a size 10 and 5f 5!

TyrionLannistersShadow · 13/08/2016 22:36

I was asked when was the baby due? She was 3 weeks old and in the pram behind me.

CoolToned · 13/08/2016 22:38

"You are growing up to be better looking now. You looked like a pork bun when you were a baby."

"What is this pig doing here?"

Mouthfulofquiz · 13/08/2016 22:42

I got told that I ought to spend my birthday money on new clothes or something for my skin, because I'm
Starting to look like a tramp. (Thanks mum. 😂)

MarklahMarklah · 13/08/2016 22:45

Don't trip over your nose.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/08/2016 22:45

I lost weight after my daughter in law called me plump. In all fairness though, English is not her first language so think she just used it without knowing its a bit insensitive.

PaniWahine · 13/08/2016 22:53

My mother once told me I should be nicer to my sisters as I'd have to take their leftovers when we were older. I was 11. She followed it up by nicknaming me podge.

ellesbellesxxx · 13/08/2016 22:55

I have Rosacea too...
"Oh no, you obviously got sun burnt this weekend"
Me:" nope, this is actually my skin!"

People just don't think do they? Flowers

AnotherTimeMaybe · 13/08/2016 22:56

Trust me you can't go out without make up on (my mum's comment!)

BlueberrySquash · 13/08/2016 22:59

Someone told me they'd rather die than be a size 14. Which I had just said is my size in a conversation worth another colleague. Nice!

(apparently I can 'carry it' though.)

cheeseandmarmite15 · 13/08/2016 23:00

I used to dye my hair black and was tanned. I also wore black sunglasses all of the time and red lipstick.

My father regularly introduced me as Michael Jackson.

RaeSkywalker · 13/08/2016 23:01

My friend told me I looked "skeletal" last time she saw me. I've got HG, I've been throwing up for 5.5 months, I don't need it flipping pointed out to me!!

ClinkyMonkey · 13/08/2016 23:02

Many years ago, I was chatting with some bloke in a bar. He asked what age I was and when
I said 26, he replied that I looked much younger. That sounds pretty flattering - but he followed this by commenting that my breasts didn't look fully developed enough for a woman of 26. What a charmer, eh?!

GingerbreadGingerbread · 13/08/2016 23:06

Oh loads. Recently someone sent me a screen grab on Twitter of a very plain buck toothed woman who was a contestant on The Chase and said "this looks just like you".

At school the boys used to say I looked like "a mole".

Babytalkobsession · 13/08/2016 23:10

When trying on my wedding dress for final fitting I questioned whether it was sitting right across my tummy. My mum said in a really derogatory & sneery tone 'for gods sake, no ones going to be looking at you'.... Surely, as the bride I was exactly who everyone would be looking at?! I'll never forget it.

milkyface · 13/08/2016 23:27

My mil has said every time she's seen me for the past month that I look tired and have panda eyes! Cheers mil... I do have a small baby who sleeps through Blush

I have taken to making sure I am fully made up (always am if I am off out but don't usually bother if staying in house) And alert when she comes over! Which reminds me... Does anyone have any recommendations for a good dark circle cure? Grin

TwoLittleBlooms · 14/08/2016 00:10

I was asked if I was expecting again (I had just returned from mat leave that day and baby was 9 months old) and when I said no and got told I better do some sit ups (not even said in a jokey manner I don't think). I suppose to be fair my stomach is a mess (split/separated muscles that don't seem to want to go back together even with physio Sad) but still didn't make me feel great at the time.

Cellardoor23 · 14/08/2016 00:44

Twolittleblooms - a few years back before I fell pregnant someone asked me when I was due. I was absolutely mortified. I drank quite a lot of beer then so I think that attributed to the bloatiness. I went on a diet pretty sharpish after that though!

Another time someone thought it was appropriate to tell me they thought I had 'just got fat' when actually I was 8 months pregnant!

BeautyQueen88 · 14/08/2016 00:51

A few years back my best friends sister told me she hated my smile just after I had laughed at a joke..I never smile or laugh without coverage my mouth now Confused

Cabawill · 14/08/2016 01:03

"You have such a beautiful face. You'd be so attractive if you lost 3 or 4 stone."

Yeah, cheers for that (evil) grandmother.

BeJayKayven · 14/08/2016 01:06

"The big one on the end is my dil"
Everyone tittered.

Old bitch.
