how old were you when you really started noticing grey hairs

And what is your natural hair colour?

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks some silvery hairs in my hair. I was a bit taken aback to begin with (was a wake up call about my own mortality!) then reconsidered that I had done well to get to 34 without any signs of noticeable grey.

Just wondered about when you first spotted grey hairs? My hair is mousey brown.

I found my first one on my 30th birthday - and I wasn't even looking!
I'm now 48 and still don't have that many greys really, though they are increasing.

I have dark blonde/mousy hair, which I henna now to cover the grey.

systemlakeland · 30/04/2018 13:30

Mid-brown. Noticed mid to late 30s. I had already been dyeing my hair for years though "just for fun" Now I am really am going grey big-time. Autoimmune disease has accelerated that, I think.

Of course now I HATE dyeing my hair. It's a bore and no longer fun Smile

pigpoglet · 30/04/2018 13:34

37 , a grey strip down the front like cruella!! I eat it coloured regularly !!

bottersnikes · 30/04/2018 14:58

I stopped colouring my hair last year and discovered a significant white stripe at the front! I suspect it's been hiding under the dyes for a good few years, and I'm 41.

zippyswife · 30/04/2018 15:03

Red.

First few greys at 38. And a lot more now at 41. And the red has faded too. More mousey now.

Shopgirl1 · 30/04/2018 17:57

40, last year, seem to be noticing a few more since then depending on how I part my hair, but scattered around so not too bad yet.

Bluesheep8 · 30/04/2018 20:20

I'm quite unusual then in that I'm 45 this year, dark dark almost black hair (I'm half irish) and not a single grey hair. My Irish grandparents both had black hair when they died so I think I may never go grey. I wouldn't mind at all if I did as I have a pixie cut and think it'd look great silver!

CountFosco · 30/04/2018 20:46

DD2 had a (single mutant) white hair at 6!

I probably started seeing grey hairs in my mid 30s, I've now got too many to pluck but not enough to really be noticable unless you are looking for them, I'm 47. Overall my hair is getting darker, it was a dark strawberry blond in my 20s but is now a darker blond/brown.

My Mum's family go grey very late so I'm hoping I follow that. I'm old enough now that I won't bother dying my hair, admittedly it helps that I have a very short pixie which I think makes it easier to go grey than having long hair where any changes in texture have more of an impact.

15, but it was just an odd one. They started to get noticeable in my early 20's. I'm now 48 and the sides would probably be completely white and the rest about 70% if I didn't dye it. My dad started to go grey at 16, but my mum was late 40's.

Doobigetta · 30/04/2018 22:27

Have had about an inch wide patch on each temple since 40-ish. Just the odd one, hardly any, through the rest of my hair at 42. Natural colour mousey brown.

EraArils · 30/04/2018 22:50

First noticed at 16 and had quite a few by mid 20's. I stopped dyeing my hair at 45 and discovered I was 100% silver. As I was dyeing my hair since 17 I have no clue when my hair actually went completely grey. Grey roots have always been the norm for me.

My natural hair colour was dark ashy brown prior to becoming silver, grey and white. I do love my hair because it has so many different tones in it.

BusterGonad · 30/04/2018 22:52

Early early 20s, my hair is dark brown/black. 39 now and dye it chocolate brown. I'm not ready to have white stripes yet, I feel it wouldn't suit me and would just make me look old.

HollaHolla · 30/04/2018 22:58

I’m very dark, and was about 16/17. I’m now in my early 40s, and not sure, as have dyed it for a good 20 years, but I suspect I’m about 59-60% grey. On one side of the family, everyone goes snowy white... but keeps lovely thick heads of hair. I just need to consider when I might be ready to take the plunge and go (gulp) white!

goose1964 · 30/04/2018 23:02

Around 52, a couple of years later I have a couple of patches where I'm mainly grey , fringe and in front of my ears, the rest of my mousy hair has hardly any.

SapphireSeptember · 30/04/2018 23:20

I got my first grey hair aged 22, although I had a random blonde hair turn up when I was 15 that scared me! My hair colour is dark brown at the top and fades to reddish brown at the ends, and I have a lot of grey hairs now, age 29. I don't dye my hair, and they're fairly noticeable where my centre parting is, but I like my grey hairs.

SuzeD29 · 02/05/2018 13:01

Dark hair and first grey hairs at 15. Am 28 now and probably about 50% grey

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 02/05/2018 13:07

Mid 50’s

JessiCake · 02/05/2018 14:27

Mousey brown hair (that hairdressers all try to pretend is 'dark blonde' - it's not. It's mouse)

First noticed couple of greys age 39ish. REALLY began to notice them v recently (age 41) - also they're white and coarse and not even really grey at all - and have gone for a semi-permanent gloss which has taken me a little bit darker and faded out the greys.

V happy with it now.

DH has been going grey since mid-20s, almost completely grey now at early 40s. His mum was grey in her 40s so I think it's genetic.

JessiCake · 02/05/2018 14:28

Sorry, that should have said, for clarity, DH's mum was COMPLETELY grey (as in silver-white) by her mid-40s

Shodan · 02/05/2018 15:01

I haven't got any yet (or if I have, I can't see them Grin)

49, with what I believe is called honey blonde hair (natural).

It is very well-behaved hair tbh, I'm very lucky.

Bugjune · 02/05/2018 15:09

No greys yet, at 44. Hair is a light coppery brown.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 02/05/2018 15:31

37 and no signs of it.

My sister is 27 and has loads!
