how old were you when you really started noticing grey hairs

And what is your natural hair colour?

I have noticed over the last couple of weeks some silvery hairs in my hair. I was a bit taken aback to begin with (was a wake up call about my own mortality!) then reconsidered that I had done well to get to 34 without any signs of noticeable grey.

Just wondered about when you first spotted grey hairs? My hair is mousey brown.

Noticed my first grey hair at 35. It stood out a mile against my dark chocolate brown hair.

Steadily going greyer at the crown, sides and fringe but using warm reddish brown semi permanent dye turns the greys into coppery mesh highlights. Smile

64 next month, and I've got about a dozen, max. Both my parents went grey very late in life - DM over 90, and not completely grey. EXH, however, was grey in his twenties. Both my DDs in their late 30s have more grey than I do, but still have over 90% their own hair colour. We are all dark brown haired. It's genetic.

Dowser · 21/06/2016 13:52

60

It all falls apart at 60 lol

Mid brown hair, with blonde and now grey hair it would appear.

spiderlight · 21/06/2016 13:53

I'm 44 and have only just started getting a sprinkling in the past few months. I have naturally lightish blonde hair with lots of lighter streaks from the sun so they're not all that noticeable (I hope!) but I've got a pack of blonde henna on standby in the bathroom for the first time my oh-so-tactful son spots one. My great aunt had exactly the same hair colour as me though and just faded gracefully to an ever paler silvery blonde well into her late 70s, so I'm planning to do that Grin

Dowser · 21/06/2016 13:53

I'm 64 and ahalfhours.

Dowser · 21/06/2016 13:55

Pooh blonde henna. Does that cover grey and leave the brown alone
I havehighlightedhair. What happens to that

Dowser · 21/06/2016 13:56

64 and a half

I hope this iPad isn't dying

Chasingsquirrels · 21/06/2016 13:57

Mousey brown (well it was!).
27

BananaChew · 21/06/2016 13:57

About 21/22. Dark brunette here. Have to get it coloured every couple of months the or so now

Pandsbear · 21/06/2016 16:22

None (yet) I am 45, very dark brown hair. But thin and fine hair (not helped by medication I have to take). My mum is in her 70s and is about 50% silver so I expect I will follow her.

5minutestobed · 21/06/2016 16:26

About 25 I think. 29 now and I have a decent amount in my fringe so I dye it regularly. My DM is in her 50s and probably has less grey hair than me.

Pumpkinmoon · 21/06/2016 16:27

34 when I had my first silver hair. I'm a natural light blonde. I really like the silvers- they "sparkle" Grin

P1nkP0ppy · 21/06/2016 16:31

17 or 18, I was very dark brunette.
Coloured my hair on and off for years, finally gave up about 6 years ago and am totally white at 62. It became impossible to keep up with the roots!

MewlingQuim · 21/06/2016 16:44

Noticed the first aged about 35. Now 44.

I used to dye my hair various colours but once it started going grey I stopped as the white roots always showed and I couldn't face dyeing it boring brown and I thought white would look better.

Now the dye is all grown out I'm actually a bit disappointed it's not more grey, it is still about 90% brown but the white hairs are all at the top and front where regrowth shows the most and I can't be arsed to dye it again.

I cant wait to be a silver fox but this inbetween salt and pepper stage is a bit dull Sad

Woodhill · 21/06/2016 17:05

22 I think, light brown hair. Went grey at fringe first so have died for years' 49 now. It's terrible at the sides.

My dm was still dark haired in her 50s so it must be genetic.

Buttwing · 21/06/2016 17:10

38 and I haven't got any yet. My mum was grey at 18 my dad only had a couple when he died at 49. I must take after him. My hair is mid brown.

freshmint · 21/06/2016 17:19

Just started getting a few at 47

gladisgood · 21/06/2016 17:20

dark to mid blonde - 46 and no grey hairs yet

EmmaWoodlouse · 21/06/2016 17:50

I am 50 and have naturally ginger hair. I used to have one quite noticeable white hair when I was younger (which I thought was rather cool) but I haven't seen it for a while, however I think my overall colour is fading a bit. I'll probably end up like my mum, who is over 80 and has a colour that she says is a mixture of ginger and white, but to everyone else looks like a sort of light reddish brown. I would actually rather like to have pure white hair but I think I just haven't got the right genes - there's a lady I see around who looks a bit younger than me and has very short pure white hair and it looks fab!

witsender · 21/06/2016 22:22

Brown hair. First greys in my 20ies, very grey here now at mid 30ies!

Lndnmummy · 22/06/2016 15:13

None yet, I am 38.
I have had acne all my life, wrinkles since I was 18 and have roseaca. My mum is 58 and have only just started to tint her hair to get rid of greys.

squoosh · 22/06/2016 15:22

I'm 40 and none so far. I do have a single white hair in each eyebrow though. They get plucked sharpish.

UhtredRagnorsson · 22/06/2016 16:07

I'm ginger (well, I was. The hair at the back still is). We don't so much go grey as fade and then go white. I had a mallen streak (not terribly wide but still, it was there) at the front from my early twenties.

mrssmith79 · 22/06/2016 16:15

Last year (35). The cheeky, wirey, white fuckers Angry

SuperFlyHigh · 22/06/2016 17:53
  1. Dark/ash blonde (mouse!).

I freaked out as it was growing in two witchy strands of hair by side of head and got hairdresser to highlight it as soon as possible.

My mum has dark brown hair and was in her mid 40s when she noticed her first greys.
