When are skinny jeans going to die?

I really want to create a capsule wardrobe/uniform but surely we're seeing the end of skinny jeans soon? I think if my jeans were slim/boyfriend then I need different shape tops.
It feels like skinny jeans are going, but that's not reflected in what's in the shops.
Anyone got a crystal ball/an idea of how to handle this distressing issue?! Wink

Boyfriend jeans tend to have more of a fat middle aged man look to them on me.

Boyfriend jeans can make you look fatter.
I think they only really suit the very young and very slim.

Ditto cargo pants.

I like relaxed skinnies, where they've not too tight around the calf, but still more fitting than straight leg.

Tapered cigarette trousers are the perfect shape.
They're still fairly fitting and skinny round the ankles, but it avoids the sausage leg look.

I still think you can't beat skinnies with boots in the winter.
Other styles don't look right, especially if you have a baggy, long style top on. You need something really fitting on the bottom half to balance it.

I predict that they will stay for winter thank god and cigarette style/relaxed skinnies will be the preferred choice for summer.

I'm not sure I want to look up peg jeans. Whatever they are.

I love skinnies. The skinner the better. I look amazing in them so ner

Skinny jeans are looking a bit passé right now. Flares are more edgey.

Bfs are still fine, I prefer skinny bfs as they fit better.

Flares are definitely more edgy. They have about 12 inches more edge per trouser leg.

Ho ho.

I agree with Derelict, skinnies only suit slim women.

Skinnies as in blue denim jean skinnies worn long have definitely had their day.

Skinnies still acceptable - coloured, high waisted, different washes & effects, just on or above ankle seem to be the jean of choice amongst the beautiful young things.

Skinnies are only good on me with a tunic length top and boots.

I wear straight legged jeans, much more flattering.

'Tapered cigarette trousers are the perfect shape'

I agree. I love that shape, as well as straight leg jeans.

What shape are those of you who like tapered but not skinny trousers? I can't get on with them at all. I just look kind of shapeless and mumsy.

There is no ideal trouser garment, it so depends on your shape. I feel really frumpy in straight leg trousers - it's a total mum-jean look for me as a podgy pear shape. I can see that they look good on other shapes though.

Can only do skinnies with a VERY long top and boots so it's pretty much a dress and leggings vibe - in which case I may as well wear leggings as they are less bulky.

Agree Glass, it's all to do with an individual's shape.

I wear what I think flatters me tbh - if it's the height of fashion then that's a win!
If it's not, then I'm not really fussed so long as it looks good on me.

Absolutely it depends on body shape and the individual cut of the jean. Not all skinnies are created equal.

I really suit this season's Gap's girlfriend jeans so I've bought them in every colour/wash. Plus, they are sooooo comfortable.

What's the difference between straight leg jeans and girlfriend jeans?

Report
Mrs9C · 22/06/2016 16:17

I never bought any all these years they've been around, convinced they'd be out soon. I tried slim fit last year, rather than skinny, and they looked really flattering, so stuck with those, though sadly they've gone baggy. Replaced them this year with relaxed skinny, and totally loving the comfort, couldn't believe it! And they stay up (River Island)! Waiting for a pair of skinnies to arrive from Boden now, so slowly progressing there. Going back to my other jeans makes my legs look like tree trunks Confused.

Relaxed skinnies, boyfriend & girlfriend are all much the same really - just depends on what suits your figure more - all look really good rolled up I think.

Derelict you are the one who is airing your opinion as fact. They don't look awful on most people. They look fine on most people.

I stated an opinion and you attempted to correct it with yours.

Just because something is popular and lots of people wear it doesn't necessarily mean it is flattering.

Can't answer for anyone else but the whole tapered thing doesn't do me any favours as am apple shaped, not massively round but big enough, with no hips or bum to speak of. So I'd look like an apple on a stick if I had the skinny ankle styles.

Rolled-up jeans are just not in my repertoire at all, I'd look ridiculous. Far too old for those, plus it's too hot to wear jeans at all in summer, and in winter, the last thing you want is rolled up bits! Straight legs are fine, slim legs with slight bootcut are fine for me and go nicely with my ankle boots.

I love Gap Girlfriend jeans too. They're really comfortable. I wish that they'd restock their darkwash though.

Going back to the point about teenagers still wearing skinnies: that may be so but it's a long time since I can remember young people leading the way in fashion. Most of the ones I see are dressed like their mums and dads. I hope it changes soon cos it's very boring to watch but I'm not going to sit around waiting for them to make a move.

I'm a hoarder but I finally let go this winter and packed away to storage my last remaining pairs of skinnies. I see a role for black and dark navy ones as legging substitutes during the dark and wet season but other trouser shapes felt a lot fresher and more appealing and I simply didn't wear my skinnies any more.

Hopefully never.
I am apple shaped with skinny legs so they are the only jeans that suit me - i can hide my fat tum under a longer shirt/ tunic.

Birds of a feather, holly!

And I agree that tapers don't work on me as an apple. You need some bum to make them hang right. They just do all sorts of weird saggy stuff when you don't have one.
