I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Herbs - will be fab to have lots of time en famille in the summer but eek re new job on horizon.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

Have missed a couple of days as am working full time this week. It has rained constantly for four days here.

Stropps - I hope you're feeling better.

Mrs S - hope you're on your plane.

MI - it seems to have been a very long wait for a funeral. |flowers].

Herbs - sad and frustrating re DDad. I know I find it difficult to chat on the phone anymore with DM because she cannot remember anything I say to her from two sentences ago. I think it is also very lonely for DDad as he has noone for a sane conversation with anymore.

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2016 14:14

Just taken DM out for lunch. God dementia is awfulSad Not sure I can do anything to help - the care home and carers are lovely, but it's v difficult for her to form relationships with other residents. Obviously. And she looks as strong as a horse so it could be for a very long time. Sad

motherinferior · 31/05/2016 16:11

Oh, BTM, how absolutely awful. How awful.

herbaceous · 31/05/2016 17:36

BTM - it's all just too ghastly.

In my aged P news, mum can't have her op today as she took her blood-thinning meds yesterday and shouldn't have done. Thus risk of death. They're trying to fit her in tomorrow, but means the whole half-term caring schedule is out of whack.

In wardrobe news, me and DP have just manhandled the carcass up the stairs. Who needs a personal trainer. Exhausting.

Cremo · 31/05/2016 18:37

Oh Herbs, And BTM I'm so sorry. I have watched a couple of RL friends go through similar and it's so dreadfully draining both physically and mentally. Df used to say she wanted to run away all the time, and my other df has both parents at different stages of Alzheimer's. It must be frightening to see your dps disappear, and have to organise care. My heart goes out to you both.

Rose, OTC ranitidine tablets ? Cut down on citrus, chilli tomatoes and Wine anything acidic.I take a prescribed pill now, as there was no going back for mine after a miserable summer in Australia, unable to even sip local white wine or dig into pan -Asian cuisine like everyone else. sorry you feel so awful.

WAF what kind of holiday are you thinking about en Irlande? Jumping over rocks, riding ponies, looking at dolphins and running up misty mountains? or sitting in an Aran sweater knocking stout into you with a background of local wit and a fiddle de dee?
other holidays involving swagger, urbanites and 5 star Michelin foods and seaweed spas may also apply Grin

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2016 19:14

Thanks Crepesters.
My mood had been completely lifted by the fabulous weather/hotel/spa/gin-tasting/time with DH on our own Wink

Herbs, commiserations - thats about the size of it with aged p's - nothing runs to plan Flowers

Cremo · 31/05/2016 19:15

In S&B news Boden have sent me a personalised catalogue highlighting the spendy years, reminiscing about dresses I bought in 2003 and a biker coat I hastily returned because the poppers dropped off. WTAF Johnny? Get a sodding life.

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2016 19:16

Cremo, I want to come and try all of those! We had a famous time in Galway and Dublin 20 years ago wth 2 of my dearest friends on their honeymoon Smile

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2016 19:18

Really? Bode must have money to burn/be desperate for your business. Maybe there's one waiting for me when I get back!

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/05/2016 19:32

I have arrived and I have gin.

Cremo · 31/05/2016 20:19

Have you a room with a view , Mrs S?

NUFC69 · 31/05/2016 20:20

Herbs, sorry to hear about DM and, especially, DF. As you may know, I had my left knee replaced almost six years ago. It was done with an epidural and they partly knocked me out. I was in for three days: as soon as you can manage stairs you're out. Enormous swelling, of course. I had to give myself injections in my stomach (twice a day, I think, at first) which was to thin the blood, if I remember, so might not be applicable to your DM. It is essential that she does the exercises they will give her, however she might feel. I had my op on a Monday, I was eating out at a restaurant a few days later, but she may find her stomach is upset because of all the medication. District nurse came in 2/3 times a week to have a look at the wound. HTH. Good luck with it all. I am about to go to see the GP about getting my other one done.

I actually have no experience of dementia, BTM and Herbs, but Flowers

Rose, I suffer a lot with acid reflux, mostly when I am stressed. Liquid Gaviscon is my Go To; I invariably have some when I go to bed, then I am often ok (if I wake in the night I sip water), Good luck with it.

We took the DGC to South Shields on the metro, which was not without incident: fault and change of trains going, and then a fallen tree partly on the line on the way back. It was so cold that I reverted to my winter coat. Lunch was taken at Colman's fish restaurant. I liked the way there was a list of the boats which had supplied the fish for the day. My Whitby scampi was out of this world.

Off to Leicestershire tomorrow.

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/05/2016 21:12

Rose - over the counter omeprazole does it for me re acid reflux. Can be used for a couple of weeks as a short term fix.

Huge sympathy to those dealing with parents with dementia. My lovely uncle had vascular dementia and frankly it was a relief when he keeled over with a heart attack. It destroyed his personality.

Hotel is err, odd. I eschewed the larger chains for something quirkier and this place is certainly that.

CointreauVersial · 31/05/2016 21:27

The DDs are back, and the noise quotient in the house has gone up considerably.

DS has done some very leisurely revision today, but didn't eat all day because he was too lazy-arse to sort anything out for himself without DD1 or me to wait on him.

And I managed to pin down Hands Off Boss for five minutes and had a very positive chat. He knew exactly where I was coming from and has taken all my ranting on board. Whether it will come to anything we shall see, but I told him I wanted to stay with the company (which I do - they really are a lovely lot) if they can find something bigger and better for me, and stop "taking advantage". Cautious hurrah!

Auriga · 31/05/2016 21:51

Two people have posted pictures of gin on FB tonight. Is gin our new best friend? Pics look very tempting, particularly as I've had a dry month.

Crem, you could sell snow to the Eskimos. The Irish Tourist Board needs you Grin

Sorry for the worries about parents, I feel for you. Mine are so ingrained they still haven't gone away. One reason I couldn't have wished for DM to live longer was that she was dementing. She missed the worst of that. It was her brain that failed first, in the end, not the heart but the heart accelerated it.

The woman I appraised today was seriously impressive. I had to look her up to discover she had an MBE for services to mental health; she didn't mention it in her self-assessment. Quietly, modestly, marvellous. I asked her if she prefers 'Ms' or 'Mrs' for the report. She doesn't mind either but prefers Mrs if there's a choice, because 'I'm very proud of being married to my husband'. As I type that, I can see it might come across as affected but I was touched.

Which reminds me, DH and I loved the Andrew Davies Midsummer Night's Dream. Too much incidental music but fabulous performances and ideas. Never seen the mechanicals' play done like that, to make you cry. At the end, there was a plug for the CBeebies version and tonight we watched that - also brilliant. I'm convinced that AMSND is a play you just can't spoil. It always, always, works.

motherinferior · 31/05/2016 22:55

I've only watched the start of the Dream - saving it for later.

Cremo, as my fellow-inmates are partaking of The Martial Art That Dare Not Speak Its Name in Tipperary this summer, I may join them for a week (especially as we have zero money for a more exotic holiday and I need to get to India at some point..)

I would also like it on record that I am back in the writing saddle and have managed a new chunk of a cool six thousand words in the past fortnight. GrinGrin

Collymollypuff · 01/06/2016 01:38

Fantastic work on the 6000 words, MI!

There's a pic on this thread which some crepeys may enjoy.

(BTM, I am up late waiting for dd to get in, the norty stop-out...)

Collymollypuff · 01/06/2016 01:42

OK, she's in.

hattymattie · 01/06/2016 08:03

Molly - 1.42 am - I hate that. I can never sleep either until they are safely back.

I can't drink gin - it makes me maudlin.

CV - well done on speaking up for yourself at work - hope you get recognition.

Off to the kiné this morning for more electric shocks.

hattymattie · 01/06/2016 08:05

On completely superficial note - continually rainy weather is making my hair curl randomly everywhere Hmm

Cremo · 01/06/2016 10:44

It's a long way, to Tipperary MI.

Grin
Collymollypuff · 01/06/2016 11:00

We're enjoying Disparu, Crem. Although when we started watching it, dd was at a festival. Grin

The thread I linked to has been deleted, no idea why. It got very funny in the early hours.

Cremo · 01/06/2016 11:10

Oh shame, I player Molly ? It has moved q fast I think.

wordassociationfootball · 01/06/2016 11:14

Crem - I'd like to go on ALL of those holidays. I'm not sure whether to go for cottage outside Cork and rent a car or B&B in the city itself. I might have to ask the family what they would like, which is a bit of a 'doh!' and makes me wonder if I don't solicit their opinion very often. I like to not think about driving or supermarkets when I'm on holiday...

Auriga, it is touching, what your Mrs/not Ms said about her DH pride. I use Ms by default.

Fantastic writing efforts MI. That is really great, especially in circs. I'm restructuring the beginning of mine to make it all start loads faster. I've found it really tough but am beginning to slaughter barrowfuls (barrows full?) of darlings.

Really glad boss listened CV. Hope he puts money where mouth is.

GGG I went to Love and Friendship. Very funny. LOVED Tom Bennett as Sir James, but were you not distracted by Kate Beckinsale's fake tan and pearly white gnashers?

motherinferior · 01/06/2016 11:26

I keep saying that, Crem. Grin

It is a long way to go.

In other news, the funeral director phones to say they don't have the carefully compiled CD for tomorrow's funeral. WTF? And then various toing and froing about this, and breathe...
