I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Herbs - will be fab to have lots of time en famille in the summer but eek re new job on horizon.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

They've just announced she's died Sad.

Collymollypuff · 16/06/2016 17:41

Sad She was formerly head of policy at Oxfam.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2016 17:42

God I saw that story as it brokeSad

Herbs, a cool Sainsbo's outfit Wink

hattymattie · 16/06/2016 17:53

Herbs - I feel exactly like you, the world is mad and people are becoming more and more selfish.

Enjoy the gig crepies.

hattymattie · 16/06/2016 17:54

Actually - I think the word "gig" probably shows our age.

NUFC69 · 16/06/2016 17:58

Just seen about Jo Cox: what a tragedy.

Crem, I would just say you don't know, too, but explain that she seems to be wrestling with something internally. Hoovering, hmmm. DH insists on plugging it in in odd places and then doing a room coming at it from two directions - do the twain meet? Probably not. Why can't he plug the Hoover in in the sitting room and do it in one go, rather than plugging in in the kitchen, doing half; then using another socket in the kitchen and doing the other half? Totally illogical.

Had a lovely lunch in a 'new' pub which has just reopened after being shut for years, then back for the England match. Enjoyed ourselves so much we're meeting at DFriends' house for the next one.

motherinferior · 16/06/2016 18:00

Hmm, think the world has always had a number of horrific assassins. But so sad. Bloody awful.

Cremo · 16/06/2016 18:33

Am absolutely horrified by the death of Jo Cox. Her poor family. A real loss to the world. I even quoted something she said about oxfams work in Uganda in a recent interview. Not my politics at all, but a remarkable womans'woman.
Appalled by The World Atm. You are right Hatty, when you selfishness is rife. I'd also add self-entitlement.

The word 'gig' still in common use. From a professional PoV I'd say that there is little to replace it. One would not say for instance a Mötorhead Concert . It's a gig , mate. Grin

Went along those lines Crepeys, in talking to the dps. It was ok. Used distraction techniques in abundance. Easily done as my mums'sbrain is all over the shop. Hyper.
Phew..

Enjoy the 'gig' Wine and RFH bar.

CointreauVersial · 16/06/2016 18:49

Jo Cox - what a tragedy. She has young kids, I believe. Sad

NU - he's doing the hoovering, leave him to it!! I've learned this the hard way with DH - if I watch him doing DIY, stacking the dishwasher or whatever I can't stop myself from telling him he's doing it all wrong. Then he gets all huffy and refuses to continue. Better that I ignore (hard for a control freak), and at least the job is done 80% to my satisfaction, rather than not at all!

Must rouse myself and cook the dinner. We're eating all the things DD2 doesn't like this week while she's in France - chickpea curry, here we come!

hattymattie · 16/06/2016 18:59

Gosh - Jo Cox headline on French news too.

Collymollypuff · 17/06/2016 00:12

If elected representatives risk being killed because of campaigning around Syria - which may have been the cause of Jo being targeted; we don't know yet - then it is indeed international news. Sad

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/06/2016 07:43

Our country is an utter mess at the moment. Hideous news. One of my friends knew her well through their work on Syria.

Hope you all had a good time last night. I had to wait forever for my eye test. The good news was that my prescription has not changed but the bad news was that my eye affected by measles has started to deteriorate. I've always known that this will happen, and that I will probably eventually lose the sight in it, but didn't think this would happen until I was about 90!

Lalsy · 17/06/2016 08:25

Terrible news. I don't know how her husband found the strength to say what he did.

Attacks on elected politicians are often international news I think, as they should be.

Hope South Bankers had a good night.

bigTillyMint · 17/06/2016 08:57

Yes, had a good night! Sadly drenched by torrential rain as we headed home though.

Really dreadful news yesterday. So sorry for her family Sad

herbaceous · 17/06/2016 09:05

Richard Hawley was great! Such an amazing voice. Some of his guitar noodling went on a bit, but in general just brill. My rating: 8.5 gins out of 10.

Preceded by rather spesh gin-drinking out on the terrace of the RFH, with a thunderstorm put on for our benefit. And, of course, the dishy Mr Goat.

Cremo · 17/06/2016 11:33

So pleased you had a good evening Crepeys. 8.5 gins sounds rather louche though!Star

We are rolling with joy here at 2-0 win over Ukraine last night. Big surprise to everybody.Football

I reread my previous post about Jo Cox and it reads as if I am some kind of right-winger.Blush
I meant that Westminster politics are not of direct relevance to me living here.
Oh no, so much more complicated in NI. Things rarely change though.
[ dull]

Have spent 45 mins in the PO today sorting out dds passport renewal. Angry

bigTillyMint · 17/06/2016 11:42

Cremo, I would like to point out that we didn't actually have 8.5 gins each! Many thanks to GGG for sorting the ticketsSmile
Congrats to NI!
How come you have to sort out her pp renewal?

Blackduck · 17/06/2016 11:44

I am Shock re yesterday's events.....

In other news ds's PADI did not go well :(

Cremo · 17/06/2016 11:45

Oh bum BD what happened?

Blackduck · 17/06/2016 12:21

They have to change regulators and when he came to clear his of water he couldn't clear it totally so was breathing in water and thought he was going to drown so had to surface. That means the dive doesn't count and he needs four to complete..... Also scared the bejesus out of him......
Yesterday not a good day all round.....

bigTillyMint · 17/06/2016 12:57

Oh god, BD, that sounds really scary for him.

Blackduck · 17/06/2016 13:02

It was.... I think being in an unfamiliar (cold) environment didn't help.....

CointreauVersial · 17/06/2016 13:41

BD - is that the bit where they have to clear their mask of water by blowing air into it? DH did a scuba diving course in the Maldives but was utterly defeated by that bit - even though he's a good swimmer and comfortable underwater. Something about that operation made him panic, and he went no further, despite trying several times. Will DS be able to repeat the dive?

Meanwhile, in GCSE news.....IT'S ALL OVER! DS posted a picture on WhatsApp of him in the park clutching a bottle of beer, with a happy grin on his face. I posted one back of me with a cup of tea and a stern expression. I'm not sure Physics went as well as he'd hoped but I don't think he cares right now. Thank heavens I never have to go through all that again! Oh, wait....

DD1 has just tramped past my office window with her backpack, off up Leith Hill for her DofE expedition proper. And DD2 has texted from her coach back from France to request spaghetti bolognaise for tea (I suspect she has survived on bread and cucumber all week).

bigTillyMint · 17/06/2016 13:44

Hooray CV! Wine to celebrate!
Grin at your DD1 tramping past your window!

Blackduck · 17/06/2016 13:57

CV no - it's when you use your buddy's spare regulator and then switch back to yours (now filled with water.....). He's done it in a pool and been fine, but I think change in environment freaked him. Trouble is you need four dives covering different skills and he can only do two next week so he'll be down one dive. Talking to his scuba teacher to see what we can do.
