I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

Hmm might be down to 41 tops, top I'm wearing today is a bit Billy Connolly (longer at the back). First time I've worn it.

HooseRice · 01/06/2016 13:14

I have a nice round bum, what's the point in covering it up Grin

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 01/06/2016 13:19

This exercise has been a real eye opener, particularly for casual clothes. I have smart work stuff and really scruffy stuff, and sweet FA in the middle. Today I'm taking the kids to the zoo and I have jeans that I loathe, and a horrible scruffy shirt that used to be OK for work. And trainers. I'm an embarrassment to myself.

I need to buy chinos, summer casual tops, and a pair of shoes that are more substantial than sandles, and not boots.

Miffyandme · 01/06/2016 14:26

Moderate, I need similar shoes. I've been wearing light trainers or Birkenstocks but I want something that is smarter than trainers. What have you been looking at?

And Cointreau how great to find such an "old friend" that still works.

The term "Billy Conolly" to describe a top made me smile.

HappyGirlNow · 01/06/2016 14:35

Love this thread, it's a great idea.. I've a massive wardrobe and really need to cull it as its getting out of hand, well I do cull it a bit every now and then but then I buy more Blush so I really need to stop buying..

HooseRice love your username, makes me think of Kevin Bridges' last tour.. Grin

Kr1stina · 01/06/2016 14:37

I wear boat shoes or similar ( as an alternative to trainers, I only wear trainers to run / gym )

This is a fab thread , thanks everyone . I'm going to start tomorrow when I'm back home from a work trip .

Will keep it though because a) it was quite expensive and b) I like it so much without me inside it

This is the exact reason why I have too many clothes in my wardrobe. And because I don't listen to babyganoush's voice of reason.

Swebby · 01/06/2016 14:46

These espadrilles are still pretty cool - chanel keep doing them each year in different styles, and there are lots of high street options. I think they make a nice alternative to trainers.

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 01/06/2016 14:46

Miffy I've not been looking at shoes. I used to wear boat shoes a lot but last years pair are utterly rank following a run in with river mud.

I have a feeling I'll end up with vans / converse type things but I find them difficult as i think the white soles make my feet look huge, and I worry about them getting stinky.

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 01/06/2016 14:48

Those are fab Swebby, out of my budget for the real deal but a high street version might work.

hippiedays · 01/06/2016 15:07

I bought a pair of Docksiders recently. Partly because I have always (20 years!) wanted a pair but I thought they would be a practical alternative to converse/toms. They ate not summery though so I haven't worn them yet but I'm hoping they will fill the void between summer shoes and boots, for casual wear at least. I wear brogues but I don't find them massively comfirtable to wear all day. I will probably be back in this thread in a year saying I have an unworn pair of deck shoes.

Zara had a high street version of the Chanel shoes but they sold out very quickly. I'm a bit reluctant to buy Zara shoes as they are uncomfortable for my fussy feet unfortunately. I'm at a loss as to what to wear with skirts/dresses if I don't want to wear sandals.

hippiedays · 01/06/2016 15:08

*are not ate!

FrustratedFrugal · 01/06/2016 17:34

Thanks Remus for the tip re tights

You are very kind Cointreau - but I just removed 14 items from my wardrobe rail. I realized that it is unlikely that I will want to wear them this summer (or ever again). Special mention to a Splendid jumpsuit that looks totally bobbled up after 2-3 washes ( awful cheap material) and has totally lost its shape Confused. I am wearing an old Esprit lyocell jumpsuit right now - it's a lot older and has been washed a lot but still looks brand new.

Mipe · 01/06/2016 18:01

Love this thread! Am wearing an old black and white dress today - cheap material, sleeveless with weird lace at the top so can only wear it with a cardigan over it - have realised it doesn't make me feel good at all so it is going to the charity shop after today! Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2016 18:09

Have filled a bag with boots and shoes for the charity shop today.

FiveShelties · 01/06/2016 18:36

Wore a very colourful swirly patterned top today which has been lurking for ages - looked good with some plain biege chinos. It is a sort of cross over, gathered over the hips and was really easy to wear and is definitely a keeper. It does not need ironing either so a win win! Wore some sandals whch were not comfy - going to give them one more chance and if still uncomfortable they are going.

ARichVernacular · 01/06/2016 19:18

Have followed this thread with interest and may well give it a go. I need to identify exactly what new clothes I need.

drspouse · 01/06/2016 22:03

I was planning a dress for tomorrow that I made (3/4 length sleeves, single jersey so ok for summer) for tomorrow but I realised I love it with some bright opaques I have but won't with bare legs or nude tights so will plan for a different dress. I'll put it away for winter.

fishonabicycle · 02/06/2016 07:26

Such a grest thread! I'm going to have a go later on. Comfortable summer shoes are my problem and need to be sorted out. I always wear sequinned fit flops. I need something more shoey.

Mipe · 02/06/2016 10:01

Wearing some blue jeggings today that I don't remember ever wearing before, really comfortable and they actually look nice with a long top and a cardigan! Just need to decide on ankle boots vs high boots when I leave the house Smile.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 02/06/2016 10:27

Morning!

I like my sheer black top today Smile another win for me!
I am off to instagram now to look for swebby...

trevortrevorslatterfry · 02/06/2016 10:28

PS billy connolly Grin Grin
I have a couple of these and I think that image may be the death of them!

drspouse · 02/06/2016 10:36

I'm becoming the indecisive dresser! Dress 2 also unsuitable (I remembered I'd worn it for my birthday dinner and needed DH to zip me up so not really practical for getting dressed for work, but at least it's a keeper as I liked it on that occasion) and all the other dresses that are currently ironed were either holiday type maxi dresses or going out dresses so I've moved on to the skirt section in the wardrobe.

Wearing a favourite Desigual skirt, black with swirls, found an H&M charcoal t-shirt but I think this would be better with plain black or a plain jewel coloured t-shirt (have none of the latter currently, hmm yet another excuse for shopping!), and new bright blue cashmere cardigan that's just the same colour as the blue in the skirt. The t-shirt fits fine and will be OK for casual, just not with this skirt for work.

M&S Illusion tights are in fact just what I was looking for, and Clarks patent black mary jane flats. Didn't feel quite up to sandals!

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 02/06/2016 10:44

Another casual day here, but slightly less hideous than yesterday as an old favourite embroidered t had emerged from the depths! Taking heed of a pp I've rolled up the ghastly jeans of doom and they now look loads better!

Its warm enough for sandles which solves the shoe dilemma.

I may brave a shop later if the DC behave, and see if I can find some shoes.

Sadly, my trusty second hand clothes site on FB seems to be over run with floaty dresses today.

drspouse · 02/06/2016 10:55

Moderate can you share your FB site (via PM maybe)?

I'm on one that is mainly kids stuff and all the adult clothing is quite boring/supermarket etc. and then a few branded ones but nothing ever really appeals. I would really like something a bit broader.

CointreauVersial · 02/06/2016 18:14

Another item has been given its marching orders.....I got back from work and changed into jeans and jumper to take the DDs to gym. The jumper is only a year or so old; it is cotton with soft grey and pale pink stripes - really lovely, apart from the irritating neckline that won't lie flat and just curls under. Nothing I can do to fix it, and it really put me off wearing it, so it will go on the eBay pile.
