May wedding; partner wearing kilt

Any suggestions about what to wear to a May wedding. My partner is planning on wearing a kilt. Should I try to match him a bit...or not?

Is either you or your partner in the wedding party?
What tartan will he be wearing?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 14:53

I'd go for not clashing as opposed to actually matching if that makes sense? It would depend on the Tartan - if he was wearing something like Royal Stewart (bright red) then I would avoid cerise but wouldn't feel compelled to wear red if that makes sense?

What tartan is he going for?

Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 14:53

Example of tartan below. We are guests, not in wedding party

Also be careful with what jacket he goes for, they used to all be black but now navy or Charcoal or grey can be quite common too. So if he was wearing black jacket, I might avoid navy.

MY DH had a kilt (no a named tartan) that is mainly green with touches of burgundy. I've worn a burgundy dress which looked nice as it blended in but wasn't too matchy.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 03/05/2016 14:56

Hmm, that's a bit intense to attempt matching.
I would probably go for "not-clashing" then as Onemagnum suggests.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 14:57

Is that navy in the stripe?

What colours do you suit OP?

Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 14:58

Yes, I'm struggling to think what to wear to look summery and sexy, but also not clashing with that

I'd maybe stick to neutrals and avoid anything too overly patterned.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 15:01

I've no idea what style or colours you suit but maybe something like this?:

Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 15:01

Yes...that's the opposite of the dress I had in mind, which has lots of floral patterns on it - in kind of subtle and pretty tones, but not really going with the kilt -- should I leave him at home?

OP posts:
Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 15:02

I suppose a neutral could work...:-) good idea...

OP posts:
OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 15:04

Definitely leave him at home or get him a plain kilt.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 15:05

If the wedding is in Scotland it could still be Baltic in May :)

Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 15:05

This is the dress I was going to wear until he announced he was going to wear the kilt (this is not a pic of me though....haha)

oo that one is pretty...I'm not tall but could get something like that

OP posts:
OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 15:09

Yes, I see the problem :) You could just not stand next to him.....? :o

Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 15:11

Yes...that's a good idea...I've never worn a neutral dress before...I'm usually quite colourful - bright green, autumn colours, maybe red, bright pink etc. haha...I'm going to have to tell him we are not compatible.

OP posts:
OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/05/2016 15:19

I look shit in anything in those colours - I need something with a bit deeper colour.

Summerlovinf · 03/05/2016 15:24

Think only time I wore anything close to that colour I was the bride.....lol (different man though!)
