The Crepey Buds Of May

GiddyGiddyGoat · 30/04/2016 19:49

Err, how did that happen with no one noticing!
It's because we're all on the dark and stormy, sloe gin and prosecco innit.

Sorry for the not v inspired title but I panicked.

Still haven't finished application...

In S&B news, does anyone have any views on M&S jeans, given there's an Offer and I need lighterweight jeans for summer?

motherinferior · 26/05/2016 15:04

Stropps, do you swim? V good for relaxing.

Blackduck · 26/05/2016 15:18

MI relaxed skinnies - great for those who lack stature....

Beachy - good luck...

Lalsy · 26/05/2016 15:46

Stropps, I have found weights machines brilliant for stress busting, if you have access to them. You can avoid shoulder ones and they are harder to injure yourself on than free weights. And provide something to kick against. Or would an exercise DVD/online thing at home be worth trying? - I am also loving a class which uses resistance tubes - again something to batter. And mindfulness seems to have worked for dh and some friends but you have to do it regularly for a while. You are, as ever, juggling a huge amount, and I am full of admiration. Good luck to/with dd and the final throes.

And good luck to MI and Beachy with application/not interview.

And Crem, you poor love. That woman sounds absolutely awful. I really hope you geta date soon.

NU, hang on in there, you are amazing.

Affairs to get out of a relationship - this happened in my family 30 years ago and the hurt can never be mended.

Ds' school mates have delightful crepey mothers with a strong enthusiasm for gin and a good argument. The fathers are quieter and more sober.

Rose, poor dd. What a shame. My dd had a stomach bug for one of her A2 papers and was very upset. I emailed school just so they could look out for her and they said fine but the exam officer will also bung in a special consideration application. Would only be likely to make a difference for a borderline mark (as tiny amount on offer for minor illness as I remember). Might be worth asking about?

MI, what sort of place are you after?

wordassociationfootball · 26/05/2016 15:58

Stropps I empathise. Hangovers make me soooo fighty. I am down to about 1 glass of wine or beer a week now. Love getting a bit pissed. I really miss it.

Hope Crem, NU and Rose's dd get better nights.

Rosebag · 26/05/2016 16:01

Hope it's gone well, Beachy hat top is lovely...wish I could do boxy Envy

Crem that sounds unbearable. I hope your name moves up the wait list quickly. I guess you might need to be on call for a cancellation?

NU I need a pedi badly...

MI my boyfriend jeans from M&S are great and don't stretch as much as the Next ones but just enough for me to think "Oooh...have I lost weight????" They aren't especially flattering, but I don't really care...

Stropps Relaxation....walking in lovely scenery with the carrot of a nice pub lunch at the end...or a cream tea. Live music with a Gin and Tonic on the table...just the one, mind. Inverted yoga postures...but not always convenient. Having cuddles.

Thanks Lalsy I did hear back from the HOY who told the exam officers. I don't know whether there any dispensation. She already gets 25% extra time (which she rarely uses) and is doing Foundation papers in most subjects. She's on the sofa in PJ's with the duvet. Says she feels sick but I don't think it's a stomach bug. Her nose is so red and she terribly blocked up. AND I AM SUPPOSED TO BE GOING TO THE FLAT WITH DH FOR A DAY OR TWO. AIBU to be a bit cross it's now in jeopardy... Hmm

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 26/05/2016 16:19

It went well,in a non-interview way.....she's going to pass my CV onto the relevant division and we'll take it from there and it's only 10 minutes from my house looks like a good fit. Clothes wise, the staff looked to be in chino/stiff shirt brigade (which is really not my cup of tea at all!). Still, cross that bridge when we come to it.

I love the Zara shirt - so glad you approve. The neck sits 'up' a bit, not sure of the correct term, but sticky up boaty effect, showing off a bit of collarbone.

Stropps - have no suggestions other than wine, although evening walks by the sea are nice in the summer.

Rose, hope you make it, but completely understand if not.

CointreauVersial · 26/05/2016 16:40

Just girding my loins for the gymnastics run, when I'd much rather stay sitting in the sunshine, enjoying my cappuccino. DH can't do the collection, so I have to kill an hour in Britain's Dullest Town (OK, one of many), Leatherhead. What'll it be? B&Q or Lidl? Or maybe a turn around the town centre? Shame the charity shops shut at 5pm.

Do we like these culottes?

Cremo · 26/05/2016 16:56

Stropps, I can recommend Pilates as a great stress buster. You are doing relaxing breathing, which brings you down from Hi doh slowly and effectively ( and is a useful tool to have when you want to bin -jump) The excercise is tougher than it looks. Much stretching out of limbs and strengthening of core. It suits me because I am wired to the moon anxious , all the time and I'm q bendy flexible. stop sniggering at the back I had no core muscles at all due to emergency abdominal surgery plus Hist. And the Pilates has turned my posture around and made me feel strong. I like that it's not competitive, but you might hate that.i sense it can very much depend on the group. My lot are mainly Crepies , with a few young uns with wrecked backs or knees.

Beachy , sounds positive.
Rose , ah shite , the poor child. Hope you can get away.
WAF, glad Paree was fun.
MI how swanky are you thinking re restaurant?
I have been using the 'Design my night' website to find party places.

Cremo · 26/05/2016 16:59

Good length snigger CV Grin I like.

motherinferior · 26/05/2016 17:02

I think they'd suit you, CV!

Foodwise? hmm. Nice Food. DP suggested the Cinnamon Club but I'm really not sure we can afford it, much as I love it there...especially if we have to take the Inferiorettes

motherinferior · 26/05/2016 17:10

Ooh, there's a relaxed skinny crop. I like a crop. I realise they probably truncate my legs even further but to be honest there's not much in it...

Lalsy · 26/05/2016 17:27

MI, RSJ or Baltic (set menus provide much swank for your dollar)?

Cremo · 26/05/2016 18:49

A crop is a difficulty for the short of arse. I like the 7/8 length ( lately found at Boden) but is so hard to find a balance with short legs. They simply look full length on me. There are so many shapes out there in trews. I find it all a bit boggling. Confused

Mint Leaf has a £35 set vegetarian menu. It's supposed to be as fabulous as Cinnamon and better than Dishoon. Hmm

Cremo · 26/05/2016 18:51

KLAXON
new thread alert

bigTillyMint · 26/05/2016 19:05

Mint Leaf looks delicious and it's near the D&S meet Grin

CointreauVersial · 26/05/2016 19:08

Blimey, already?

I have a title! The Greatest Crepe (geddit?)

MI - I like a crop. I just turn up regular length jeans, usually.

herbaceous · 26/05/2016 19:36

Excellent title, CV!

I like slightly cropped trousers, but they rather emphasise my cankles, which is not a good look.

Stropps - I find swearing loudly in the car until I laugh at my own ridiculousness quite a good release of stress. This is really only possible when alone. Not sure if you have a 'stress management' problem as much as a 'lazy husband' problem, or a 'difficult daughter' problem. Still needs venting, I dare say.

I am about the oldest of my mummy friends, but most are in their forties, thankfully. I was at a 40th birthday party at the weekend, and lots of other guests were moaning about how they were dreading being 40, etc etc (when they weren't braying about their bonuses).

Have put feelers out locally for venues for grammar course, and it's looking quite promising! Trying to think of amusing titles...

Lalsy · 26/05/2016 20:13

I also find competitive sport (I play badminton), with swearing, very good for stress.

Crem, you and me both on the boggled-by-trousers front. Why can't they start at your hip and go down to your ankles, in a straight line?

Lalsy · 26/05/2016 20:14

Waist, waist! I want trousers that start on my waist.

CointreauVersial · 26/05/2016 20:58

Grin Lalsy

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/05/2016 21:26

Lalsy, I would quite like to play badminton again - where do you play?

I have, with much swearing, managed to book myself on a conference next week. The stress, the stress... Now flights and a hotel...

Lalsy · 26/05/2016 22:18

We have played all over, MrsS, typically starting somewhere a couple of months before the roof falls in or they discover asbestos, but nowhere terribly near you. Look up No Strings Badminton? - drop in pay and play sessions - haven't used them but seen them having fun. We find having the hall to ourselves makes for more satisfactory swearing possibilities though.

magimedi · 26/05/2016 22:35

Crawling in here - have spent much time on the dreaded A27 visiting DH's aunt. She is out of hospital & in a truly lovely nursing/residential home.

Sadly she has reached the end (at 102!) & end of life care plan is now in.

I am just so sad that we can't be there 24/7 as DH has various hospital appts etc etc.

I just hope that I either drop dead on the spot or go in my sleep.

But if I am dying slowly I would very much like to have the hand of a loved one to hold to see me out.

Trying to give that to aunt, but suspect she'll go on her own.

Sorry for the morbidity of this post - it's really getting to me.

Strops - I would really recommend swimming as a stress buster - it's what keeps me (fairly) sane.

hattymattie · 27/05/2016 06:27

Magi well done for being there for your Aunt - she has had an amazing innings at 102. I'm like you - just want to drop dead and not know anything about it.

Used to go swimming every week but then I had children - now I sort of have an aversion to sliding into cold water - apart from the fact that I need a little short swimsuit to avoid constant waxing!

Crem - I'm really sorry I missed your PM of 18th May - just discovered it yesterday - I think it comes from working off my phone/tablet and two computers - I'm wondering how much other stuff I miss Confused. Anyway - all good for Airbnb - will be on the alert for details!
