Shall I get my nose pierced?

I've seen a few people who have and they looked great with studs that were very small and pretty. In my head I'd look really cool and interesting and edgy but as a rather dumpy 40-something I'm afraid I'd be more likely to look try-hard and a bit sad .

Should I go for it or accept that I should have had it done 20 years ago and leave it?

Glue a bead on for the day Hmm as a dry-run?

WordGetsAround · 23/04/2016 20:02

Bad idea!

botemp · 23/04/2016 20:12

Depends on the rest, in all honesty. One little thing isn't going to make you edgy if it jars with everything else. However, whatever anyone says, if you want one, go for it. Your nose, your bit of fun Smile. You can always take it out if you don't like it. And if it helps, my mom had one for most of her forties, can't really remember why she stopped.

ShelaghTurner · 23/04/2016 20:13

Go for it. I had mine done in my 20s and now I'm 44 and still have it. I take it out for a while sometimes but always miss it and put it back in. I don't give a toss what people think. Mine is tiny and sparkly and very subtle.

DrunkenMissOrderly · 23/04/2016 20:17

I think a little stud can look quite middle aged and safe - get a ring!

SirChenjin · 23/04/2016 20:18

Nope - bad look on a 40 something, unless you're embracing the whole 'vegan at festival' look

NicknameUsed · 23/04/2016 20:22

Do what you want to do. What other people think doesn't matter.

I dislike nose piercings, simply because I just don't find them attractive in the slightest, but my opinion isn't important to you.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 23/04/2016 20:31

I think to carry off a nose stud you have to be either:

alternative
dark-skinned
very pretty

If you are none of these I honestly wouldn't bother.

YvaineStormhold · 23/04/2016 20:35

I'm 42 and I've got one.

I really, really like it.

I'm also fair skinned, not thin and beauty is in the eye of the beholder Wink

If you want one, get one OP. You can always take it out if you don't like it Smile

Heyheyheygoodbye · 23/04/2016 20:36

I've got mine done and I love it. Never stopped me getting a job etc and people always say it suits me :)

Iflyaway · 23/04/2016 20:40

Personally I don't do tattoos or piercings to myself.

I don't need someone else to tell me how to look. Never mind putting ink into my body! Shock

WanderingTrolley1 · 23/04/2016 20:41

I'd say no.

DerelictMyBalls · 23/04/2016 20:43

Yeah, go for it - you can always take it out!

ScarletForYa · 23/04/2016 20:44

No.

Next stop is ethnic bead earrings and a salt and pepper pixie cut!

hollieberrie · 23/04/2016 21:06

I am none of these things, am not many years off 40 and i love my nose stud. Have had it for 10 years - very small and subtle. I think it suits me and even if others dont, i dont care Grin.

Tbh people hardly ever notice it, so i wouldnt say it gives a hippy vibe at all. I have several asian friends who also have nose piercings so its not at all unsual in my area at all. None of my work places have ever even mentioned it. Go for it OP - i think its looks lovely and it honestly didnt hurt.

Mishaps · 23/04/2016 21:09

No! - it has the highest infection rate of all piercings; and the result of that can be a nasty scar - not that I am trying to put you off or anything!

almostthirty · 23/04/2016 21:12

I'm considering getting one myself as a 30th birthday present to myself but just really don't know? Am seriously considering a magnetic one first to see if I like it Blush . maybe it's worth giving one a go first OP.
As an aside, if you do have your nose pierced, do you feel it when it's in? And what's it like when you have a cold and blow your nose etc?

TwentyOneGuns · 23/04/2016 21:15

Oh God, the vegan/ethnic beads look is not what I was going for! None of the people I've seen with studs looked like that either although I think a ring can (and also reminds me too much of a bull Grin).

I do have a pixie cut although luckily not salt and pepper yet but I'm neither dark skinned nor especially alternative and only averagely pretty at best.

I think it's a bit of a mid-life crisis thing (which I appreciate is not the ideal basis for style choices!) but I want to look a bit more interesting instead of just another middle aged Mum. Inside I'm still the cool art student I was way back when but my look doesn't reflect that any more :(.

As my son's Consultant said when he reiterated that DS shouldn't get piercings or tattoos (heart condition) - "other forms of self expression are available"

Grin
hollieberrie · 23/04/2016 21:20

No you cant feel it almostthirty. I prefer the L shaped ones that you bend and then put in rather than the bone ones (with a little bump on the end to stop them falling out) - they hurt a little bit to push in.

If i have a really heavy cold then i take it out as sometimes the tiny studs do come out if you blow your nose very vigorously! If you had the bone stud then it wouldnt fall out at all.

I love mine so much - its one of my fave things about my appearance.

HookedOnHooking · 23/04/2016 21:23

Do it. If you hate it you can just take it out.

Mine is at least 20 years old and its my little bit of rebellion. My mother hates it.

almostthirty · 23/04/2016 21:28

Oooooo I'm so tempted! The only thing that's really holding me back is in a teacher and I'm not sure if it's frowned upon.

hollieberrie · 23/04/2016 21:36

I'm a teacher! Primary, state sector. No-one has ever commented. Not parents, SLT, colleagues, or anyone. I think you'd be fine in the state sector. Not sure about private schools - some may have a stricter dress code.

daisydukes34 · 23/04/2016 21:37

I've had my nose pierced since I was 15 and I still love it! I have a ring though. You can ways take it out if you change your mind Smile

daisydukes34 · 23/04/2016 21:38

Boris really?Hmm Do you also have the opinion that to wear a suit you must be a white straight male?
