Shall I get my nose pierced?

I've seen a few people who have and they looked great with studs that were very small and pretty. In my head I'd look really cool and interesting and edgy but as a rather dumpy 40-something I'm afraid I'd be more likely to look try-hard and a bit sad .

Should I go for it or accept that I should have had it done 20 years ago and leave it?

If you want it done and can afford to have it done somewhere reputable then yes, just do it.

I want one too but not got the cash to go for it. I'm well into my 40s and have pretty much given up caring what other people think.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 23/04/2016 22:46

Daisy, no it's just a personal opinion. I think that tattoos and piercings often look a bit too "try hard" on many people, particuarly if you're of a certain age. I have several friends who've had them in their 40s, and for me it just doesn't work. Each to their own, but the OP was asking what we thought.

Chinks123 · 23/04/2016 22:52

Do it!! I love mine. I have a couple of tattoos and a ring in my nose, I'm not trying to be anything but myself. I like it and think it suits me and I'm not alternative/hippy/beady etc. It's a piercing it doesn't have to change your whole style. If you want it op do it.

MadisonAvenue · 23/04/2016 22:55

I had mine done in my 30s and loved it but it refused to heal and was so sore, on occasions the stud fell out and it was agony to put it back in. I had to give up on it and was gutted about it (still am but I'm not brave enough to have a second attempt).

Btw TwentyOneGuns I love your user name!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/04/2016 23:06

I'm nearly 50 , when I was 18 I considered it but my Aunts hairdresser said it looks like a blackhead when you take it out Hmm

I've tried a tiny crystal , but I have a pointy long nose so too much skin. Doesn't look good on me.

I would consider something on my ear (tragus or cartilage maybe)

Tutt · 23/04/2016 23:11

I've had mine in for over 30 years, I am a middle aged woman, just normal in a good job.
It has never stopped my career... nor have my tattoos!
If you want it go for it, life is too short to worry about what others think!

SoConfused15 · 23/04/2016 23:19

I have one and I am a middle aged lady in a boring job. I have a 2mm diamond stud so it's not tiny, but
NOONE at work has ever DARED To comment, lol. Out of work I am mildly alternative ha ha.

Littleallovertheshop · 23/04/2016 23:42

Do it, I got mine done a couple of years ago and I love it. It's been a bit of a faff but it's something I wanted to do. I wear suits to work and like the way it clashes with everything else about my appearance which is fairly straight laced. OH hates it but I don't care.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 23/04/2016 23:58

I used to have 2 in my right nostril, I had a stud & a ring. (Big nose so plenty ofroom for both) The stud was lost in a puking incident, the ring got squashed in a mosh pit a few months later. I had to buy a set of precision pliers to cut it then lever it out. It hurt & so I left it alone for a while then the hole had healed up enough to prevent anything else going in. You can still see the scars. I loved them, would love to reinstate if I could be bothered with the whole getting it done thing. Maybe for a birthday..

NickiFury · 24/04/2016 00:09

No.

Get your navel done. I've got mine done and I love it. I never thought I would be able to carry it off but I can Smile. I don't flash it around though that's for sure.

I'll do it if you do it Grin

Pinkgeek · 24/04/2016 00:43

Can u see it out of the corner of your eye all the time?! I'd end up picking at it thinking I had something stuck on my snout!!

hollieberrie · 24/04/2016 00:56

No you can't. You just forget it's there.

Nettletheelf · 24/04/2016 01:24

Don't. I tend to mistake them for spots when I see them on other people. Even when the stud isn't in.

I loved the "other forms of self expression are available" advice!

nocoffeenouppee · 24/04/2016 02:43

I like a small stud. Think a nose ring looks ridiculous on an otherwise conventionally dressed person. SIL has one and I'm dying to tell her she looks like an idiot but I wouldn't dare.

Thataintnoetchasketch · 24/04/2016 06:27

I got mine done a few weeks ago & love it. If you want it done then do it. You can always take it out again if you don't like it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/04/2016 06:32

YES! I had mine done but took it out after a couple of months as it wasn't healing. LOVED IT and would get it done again but I know my grandparents, parents and husbands would hate it. Should do it anyway, I know!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/04/2016 06:32

*husband!!! I only have one! :)

TwentyOneGuns · 24/04/2016 07:19

I did used to have my navel pierced but took it out when I had DD and there's no way I'm flashing my belly these days, no-one needs to see that!

Thanks Madsion I n/c after seeing American Idiot: The Musical last year, loved it! Really wanted 21Guns but it's taken although I've never seen the user around.

My lovely cleaner 44 has just got a facial piercing and taken up smoking. I think it's something to do with middle aged angst and her daughter hitting 20. All the 20 yo are like WTF so I'd advise against.

hollieberrie · 24/04/2016 08:00

I have naval and nose - i never show the naval off (aint no-one wanna see that!) but i love both and i really feel they're just for me. I get a little thrill when i see either of them, even after all these years of having them.

Dont understand people saying it looks ridiculous. I never see older people (or indeed anyone) with piercings, tattoos, colourful hair and think it looks ridiculous. Sometimes i think Wow, thats a bold look, but never more than that. Why the need to conform? Even those stretchy ear hole things - theyre not my thing but if i see someone with them it doesnt make me judge the person in any way.

NickiFury · 24/04/2016 08:29

That's how I feel about my navel piercing hollie. It's got a very sparkly diamond in it at present and I have belly bars in loads of different coloured sparkly stones. It's my little thing that makes me feel happy whenever I see it.

Floisme · 24/04/2016 10:06

Personally I'm not keen. I can never get past thinking, 'It's your nose, there's snot up there.'

But not getting it done because you're over 40 is the worst possible reason.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2016 11:10

Go for what makes you happy. My sister has one and it looks fab, she's 40 plus.
