Kate's Clutch Bags

I was reading a bit of a mean article in the Daily Mail (obviously) about how unstylish she was. I don't agree with all of it but i do think the wee teeny clutch bags don't help. I know she can't manage a shoulder bag but maybe something a bit bigger might look better and less buttoned up.

I also can't believe she has tights on she must be roasted!

Is this some kind of joke now? Was one of her suitcases with all the shoes left on the carousel? The same bloody shoes AGAIN

Yes they look ok with that dress. But that's all. Just ok.

I was away on business for three days this week and I took more shoes with me that Kate has taken on a state visit to India.

I am completely unreasonably irritated by this now

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/04/2016 15:20

It would appear she's just not a shoe person.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/04/2016 16:52

It would appear not. But surely her stylist would mention it? What about her support for British designers etc. Plus I want to drool over some lovely shoes!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/04/2016 17:04

It's a bit peculiar, stylists usually love shoes, esp when the client has money to spend.

I thought that while she looked good, with better shoes she would have looked great.

ElspethFlashman · 16/04/2016 17:15

Well in fairness she does wear Rupert Sanderson shoes a fair bit. And I'm fairly sure she has a Lucy Choi pair. So she does buy British where possible. It's just that they're so plain that nobody pays much attention to them.

She actually does have shitloads of shoes. Squillions of versions of nude and black ones, a fair few navy ones, and some grey ones. They may all look the same but they're actually not.

She does like shoes a lot - she just likes really plain shoes.

Is it just me, or does anybody else actually feel quite relieved that her style is slightly boring now? There was a period a few years ago when she was wearing some of my favourite designers (and looking really good in them!) and I have to admit to feeling just a tiny bit annoyed at the prospect of her becoming synonymous with them!

It's not exactly the Daniella Westbrook / Burberry effect but if I'm really honest there are just other people who I would much rather be associated with in terms of style. She has a great figure for clothes and I am sure she is perfectly nice, but personality-wise she just isn't somebody who I want to emulate in terms of fashion.

It's interesting though - I have even less love for the Tories than the monarchy but I don't mind at all that SamCam has good style!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/04/2016 18:12

I had a close look at the pair she wore at Taj and the heel caps looked pristine, so she's either a very careful wearer or she has a few identical pairs to hand.
or the stylist has shoe repair skills on her CV

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/04/2016 18:18

I didn't think it was boring.

I loved the Anna Sui and the Tory Burch dresses, didn't quite like the Temperley.

andintothefire · 16/04/2016 18:47

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe - I think she always looks nice and well turned out, but from a fashion perspective it is quite boring. Her stylist could be having so much fun with British designers (both new and established). There was a period when she was wearing some Erdem / Mary Katrantzou / Matthew Williamson etc. There are also some brilliant young British designers around. Lucy Choi does great shoes that are not too expensive. Now she has slipped back into dresses and shoes that you see at lots of slightly Sloaney weddings every summer. I think that her style probably is a good reflection of her personality though, and I certainly don't think there have been any fashion disasters on this tour. It's just a bit safe and dull in my opinion.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 16/04/2016 18:59

I agree with you actually, come to think of it.

Just because I would kill for those dresses don't mean someone younger, prettier and slimmer, like she is, has to wear them the way I would.

It's a shame, there must be so many designers and stylists dying to get their hands on her.

andintothefire · 16/04/2016 19:01

Ps and I did also like the Tory Burch dress - probably my favourite so far! There are not many people who could carry that off.

mrsvilliers · 16/04/2016 19:18

I actually didn't like the nude courts here with the blue and white dress. I think she's looked very well put together on this trip and I do absolutely love the Alexander McQueen eyelet jacket and suit she wore yesterday that she's worn before. Also, am weirdly missing the clutch bags, she really looked like she needed something to do with her hands the other evening!

mrsvilliers · 16/04/2016 19:20

Broderie Anglaise suit, my bad Blush

looki · 16/04/2016 22:32

I think she is just not into shoes. At all. She wears her reliables over and over which is about the only thing I have in common with her :-)

Sometimes I wonder if she is really into clothes. She seems happy in high street clothes and I imagine chooses from what her stylists puck out rather than have an active shopping interest.

I watched an interview after their hike and she seems very uncomfortable with the press. I know she chose that life but I think she chose a hard one in many ways. I'd prefer to choose a wealthy oil tycoon/stockbroker type and still have the lifestyle without the endless criticism.

Stepawayfromthezebras · 16/04/2016 22:46

Shock The Queen's figure in that white lace dress is amazing!

BitOutOfPractice · 16/04/2016 23:26

A hard life? Really? Ok.

polyhymnia · 16/04/2016 23:32

I just think she is very boring with little spark or personality and that's reflected in her choice of clothes and shoes and/ or how she wears them. But in her line of 'work' these are all probably assets.

NapQueen · 16/04/2016 23:39

I think its a hard life. Its not a life I would choose. Its a different kind of hard.

I work all hours, cook my meals, clean my house, budget, sort the kids etc and ok so she may not have those stresses but would I really want my life played out across the world? People scrutinising my toes? People calling me all sorts of names when they probably all have very little idea of how I spend my day?

Not for me!

BitOutOfPractice · 17/04/2016 03:39

I don't call a life of leisure, privilege and wealth "hard" at all. And I think it's rather crass to say it is, insulting to those whose life is hard.

But that sort of debate is not in the spirit or scope of this thread so...

Cerseirys · 17/04/2016 07:28

Isn't it Step? I've seen the exhibition of dresses belonging to the Queen, Princess Margaret and Diana at Kensington Palace and Diana's dresses look gigantic compared to the other two with their tiny waists! Of course she wasn't remotely gigantic, though she was very tall, but the fifties silhouette was far more flattering to the figure than the eighties one.

Pisssssedofff · 17/04/2016 08:47

Diana was 5'7" wasn't she ??

lem73 · 17/04/2016 08:57

Polyhymnia I think you're spot on. I also have this feeling that William is quite a strong character and likes having a docile wife.

Cerseirys · 17/04/2016 09:02

I thought Diana was taller than that, at least 5'9 plus she wore heels a fair bit.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/04/2016 09:11

Diana was 5'10 according g to Google.

It was 40 degrees plus at the Taj and she looked cool as a cucumber, I'd had been a puddle of melted make up and frizzy hair by then Grin

CallaLilli · 17/04/2016 09:20

William must've been sweltering though. And let's hope he remembered to sunscreen his head!
