The one thing that helps you feel 'put together' ?

At the ripe old age of 48 I have recently bought myself my first lip stick.
It's Chanel and am utterly in love with it. When ever I wear it I feel , well, put together and confident, no matter what else I'm wearing. ( that and my ray bans!)
Can't believe I've gone these years thinking a good lippie would be wasted on my thin lips.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has that one thing that makes all the difference?

Good haircut
Red lipstick - other colours just don't work as well for me

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/04/2016 21:25

Yes to biker jackets.

Wombat87 · 04/04/2016 22:02

I always do me make up, just light stuff like BB cream, eyeliner underneath and mascara, eyebrows and a chubby stick (big love for chubby stick lip colours). But for me it's earrings. A specific pair of pearl ones DP bought me. Makes me feel my outfit is complete and I made effort. Grin

Nibbl3s · 04/04/2016 22:24

Matching underwear. I feel like I have my shit together when my underwear matches.

JohnCheese · 04/04/2016 22:35

Yy agree with pp who say red lipstick makes them feel like they're dressing up. I feel a fraud in it.
But yes to nudishy lipstick.

Proper blow dry and I can go anywhere. Fab.

Eyebrows. Threaded and tinted every month. I look older with bad eyebrows. Seriously, I do. I could have a surgical facelift and no one here would notice. Eyebrows done and all at home notice.

areyoubeingserviced · 04/04/2016 23:07

Defo threaded eyebrows

Red lipstick- i love glamour

SuckingEggs · 04/04/2016 23:29

Mascara
Threaded brows
Lippie - I love Chanel lipstick (reds and nude)
Leather biker
Scarf

I love a light tan. An up 'do' hairstyle and pearl studs.

amarmai · 05/04/2016 00:06

a flattering coat covers many sins. As do great sunglasses and foot and legwear.

JaneJeffer · 05/04/2016 12:11

Earrings and a bracelet. Also shaved legs even if they're not on show. I can't function with hairy legs!

tappitytaptap · 05/04/2016 13:34

Lipstick, mascara and blusher. Lipstick in particular I think is the one thing that makes me feel 'made up' so have been wearing it more recently.

MiffleTheIntrovert · 05/04/2016 13:51

I would love to be the type of person who wore red lipstick and diamond earrings!

For me, it's my pearls. I am a MN clichè.

I still feel slightly guilty disregarding my grandmother's rule advice of "pearls only after 30, and 6pm" though.

MsBojangles · 05/04/2016 13:52

Eyebrows - I dye them brown myself every few weeks, they're a good shape but naturally very fair. I like the strength they bring to my face when they're darker.

Leather jacket - I got myself a classic black Balenciaga from Vestiaire that I'd been lusting after for years and years. Even though it's second hand it was still an 'investment' but I feel bloody amazing every single time I wear it, making it worth every penny in my book.

bigbuttons · 05/04/2016 14:15

Today I went out looking somewhat scruffy but didn't care as I had the Chanel lippie on.
Looks like I'm going to have to see what I need to do with my brows then. I might have to go to a make up counter and get advice, someone needs to see my face ( unfortunately!)

All of the people saying eyebrows. I have never done anything at all with my eyebrows, except for plucking the odd rogue one. I rarely notice my eyebrows (I wear glasses) - should I be thinking about them more than I do (which is virtually not at all)?

MsBojangles · 05/04/2016 15:12

Maybe you've been blessed with naturally good brows, Remus?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/04/2016 15:23

I doubt it v much!

8FencingWire · 05/04/2016 16:46

Yy to threaded eyebrows and good haircut/blowdry. :)

Flossyfloof · 05/04/2016 16:54

Always pearl earrings. I have two ear piercings, I expect that is a bit common.
Mineral foundation - just a bit - mascara and lippy. And always perfume. Usually Dune by Dior but I think it is discontinued now. I like Cacharel Cashmir as well.

Artandco · 05/04/2016 17:06

A decent blazer. Then even scruffy jeans with a clean tshirt look semi decent once blazer is added

LostMyBaubles · 05/04/2016 17:06

I love doing my eyebrows!!

I usee anastasia beverly hills dipbrow pomade in dark brown and an angled brow brush.

Im also a huge fan of false eyelashes 😍
Even if its a subtle natural pair im wearing I still feel complete.

If you want any more brow advice pm me (im a make up artist might be able to help)

and to the person asking about the beauty sponge

most people use an antibacterial handwash. I use that mixed with some coconut conditioner but you can buy specific cleansers real techniques have just launched a new cleanser

Kirriemuir · 05/04/2016 18:42

Good make up and gel nails.

A good handbag and heels.

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/04/2016 20:40

Red lipstick, freshly washed hair, and painted nails, every day. Eyebrows threaded every two or three weeks, hair cut every six.

AyeAmarok · 05/04/2016 20:45

Two things, sorry, can't choose!

Eyeliner and heels.

Disabrie22 · 05/04/2016 21:39

Two things that are really bothering me these days - my lack of waist - at 30 inches and 34 inch hips - and my hair colour - it's just such a boring mix of brown and blonde highlights.
Has anybody had any success re-training their waist?
Has anybody gone for an edgy colour or edgy way of using blonde highlights?
