The one thing that helps you feel 'put together' ?

At the ripe old age of 48 I have recently bought myself my first lip stick.
It's Chanel and am utterly in love with it. When ever I wear it I feel , well, put together and confident, no matter what else I'm wearing. ( that and my ray bans!)
Can't believe I've gone these years thinking a good lippie would be wasted on my thin lips.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has that one thing that makes all the difference?

Sorry meant to post this as a thread! Will try again!!

Aducknotallama · 05/04/2016 22:19

Eyebrows- threaded and dyed, hair- washed and straightened every day, lipstick, earrings, heels, perfume - oops far more than one!

cissyfuss · 06/04/2016 00:18

Winter... Stand out Coat
Summer... Cracking sunglasses

Nice hair colour and a good moisturiser.

GeorgeTheThird · 07/04/2016 20:31

Baubles - thank you

Twinklestein · 07/04/2016 20:33

Good haircut and good earrings.

mowglik · 07/04/2016 23:37

Agree with good blazer or any good outerwear
Eyeliner
Freshly washed (or at least, not yet greasy) hair
Clothes that aren't creased (not nec ironed)

lisa2104 · 08/04/2016 11:19

Straightened hair and a good bra! I can cope without make up bit I do like a good mascara.

parmalilac · 08/04/2016 11:25

Eyebrows. At a minimum I use one of those light-reflecting concealers where necessary, and use an eyebrow powder/wax kit or pencil. For me those two things are more important than lipstick, mascara etc.

LisaMumsnet · 08/04/2016 11:29

I have to say I feel naked without earrings and mascara! But I lead a hectic life and believe life's too short to change your earrings so I just wear pearl ones all the time and so feel half 'put together' all the time! As for mascara, well even if I'm late for work that just has to be applied as I think I look ill without it. Must agree a good lipstick is a huge boost and it's worth spending some time finding a shade that really rocks your world.

mrslebon · 08/04/2016 12:01

Eyebrows - I use Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Mahogany and a short angled brush to fill in and shape them. Makes a huge difference. Also blusher otherwise I look ill.

Earrings. I have an extensive collection of interesting modern pieces (DH has very good taste) and a rummage through my box before going out always brings up something that just completes everything.

millimat · 08/04/2016 14:51

Another vote for shellac nails.
Are tubing mascaras worth the money?

kezzy13 · 08/04/2016 14:57

Getting dressed and brushing my hair is an achievement these days 😂😂

bigbuttons · 08/04/2016 15:22

Tubing mascara is Amazing; panda eyes are a thing of the past. I could never use a non tubing mascara again.

I agree re the blazers. Now that it's a tad warmer I am wearing them again. If I have a blazer and my Chanel lippie I have found that people will tell me I look good. Simple things. Personally I think it is my new orange/ red lippie that is the clincher!

Perfume- YSL Black Opium in Winter and Marc Jacobs Daisy in Summer

Onlygingergothinthevillage · 08/04/2016 15:47

Bought a biker jacket a couple of years ago. Goes with just about anything.

PerpetualStudent · 09/04/2016 01:56

I wish I was a 'slick of red lippie' girl - but whenever I try it always flakes and fades really quickly, and I never have time to re-apply, so by about 11am all I have is a ghost of smudgy red round the edge of my lips (also, at 3 month shy of 30, still get that '5 yr old in her mother's make up' feeling too!)

For me it's my short (pixie crop) hair licked into shape with a bit of product, and mascara - I look like a fuzzy-headed, moon faced boy if not...

YaySirNaySir · 09/04/2016 08:54

Hair makes the biggest difference.

DreamingofTuscany · 09/04/2016 11:17

Where can you get nice blazers that aren't too expensive. I'm a busty size 14 and I think I want/need one is year. Where should I look please?

Also, should it go for navy or do you like other colours clueless

waceystills · 09/04/2016 11:30

Nails painted and not too long. I do my own gel nails and I get 2-3 weeks out of them.

I feel pulled together when nails are painted. Most other things are easier to maintain, freshly washed hair, subtle make up and a pulled together outfit.

millimat · 09/04/2016 11:32

I'm thinking that I too need s blazer. Size 16 - where from?

WinterWonder · 09/04/2016 22:18

I hate going out without my eyebrow pencil/gimme brows as mine are so fair that I feel I have no expression until they are filled in, but the thing that makes me feel 'dressed' is shaped and buffed nails. I can't wear polish at work, but a buff makes them look so clean and nice and ensures no shame when I have to touch someone else!

bigbuttons · 09/04/2016 23:08

I've got my blazers from eBay. Recently have bought wonderful Jaeger and J Crew ones for a steal.
