LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?

God it's amazing. Been using box dyes for ages to cover the greys in my brown hair. My hair was in terrible condition, dry, thinning, breaking off etc.
Tried the reddy brown Lush henna, it's a gorgeous colour, plus has left it really glossy, hasn't been this shiny all over since I was in my 20s.
Did it about 4 weeks ago and the colour and shine is still as good as when I first did it. Will never use a box dye again.
Promise I don't work for them, just needed to share the love!

I rarely dye the whole lot. Started using superdrug wash in dye which tinged the colour of my greys a sort of orangey colour which was too orange for my liking. I ended up going over the whole lot with a box dye in a sort of deep mahogany/auburn colour. My roots came through and i touched them up. I have about a million colours of red and auburn in my hair!!!!!

Good luck the person that posted that was doing it today. Please do before and after shots of your hair :)

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 09/04/2016 11:29

It's on. I have cling filmed my hair and will leave it on as long as I can bear it, to make up for the henna being out of date. I am either going to be bright orange or it won't do anything at all!

Why not shampoo, earflaps?

EarSlaps · 09/04/2016 11:35

Cut, not really sure why I don't shampoo TBH Grin I just find it rinses out so much more easily using conditioner and once I've done that I can't be bothered to shampoo (I often just use conditioner to wash).

My hair is still dry with henna but it was like straw with a box dye. If I went swimming within a few days of dyeing it, then it seemed to get even worse.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 12:48

This lady does it effortlessly:

Great idea to use a thing for icing!!!!!

What do you think?

EarSlaps · 09/04/2016 13:55

I did use icing bags for a while but TBH I prefer just slapping it on with my hands. Haven't missed any bits yet Smile

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 09/04/2016 15:02

That's a good idea to wash it out with conditioner, thanks. Mine has been on since this morning. The baby is napping on me so I don't want to wake him to wash it out.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 15:09

Do you put it on in such an organised way? Do you use a mirror? How do you do it if you are in the bath?

EarSlaps · 09/04/2016 16:00

Nice thing about henna- if you are a bit late rinsing it out it's not a disaster Smile

I didn't watch the vid, but my usual technique is-
Put Vaseline around hairline and on ears
Put on gloves.
Scoop out a bit and apply to fringe area (where I am most grey)
Get a clip and put up all apart from bottom layer of hair, separate that into 3
Scoop out henna and apply to each section, concentrating on roots.
Let another section out and repeat until all hair is covered.
Put any remaining over the top of my hair and smooth through. Pull it all up into bun and fasten with a hairband.
Cover hair with cling film and leave.

I apply in front of the mirror and stand on an old towel. I usually get a couple of blobs on it but I brush them off when it's dry and wash it.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 16:07

Just wondering. How many blocks for just below my shoulders?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 09/04/2016 17:04

Green garden- I'd say you need a full block for your hair.

How come that woman in the video isn't slopping it all over herself and the bathroom, and swearing profusely? 😀 Looks like there's been a massacre when I've done mine. I was going to buy one of those squeezy ketchup bottles you get in cafes to apply mine next time which would do same as an icing bag. And might cut down on the use of the F word.

How's it going cutyourhair?

I last did mine a few weeks ago, the greys have now gone a bit lighter brown but still blend in nicely. It's the condition I can't get over, it's still very shiny, complete contrast to my straw like frizzy mass that was.

Do you mean like the 6 chunks you get in a pack? sorry to be thick

OvO · 09/04/2016 17:13

Loving all the photos! I have much hair envy.

I used 5 chunks for my middle of my back length hair. Had loads.

Hair is super dark now compared to first day, much more subtle.

LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?
Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:18

It looks beautiful :) I love it. Its a gorgeous colour.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:19

Strange to, my strand test that I did is now much darker too.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:25

I think 4 may be enough for my length. Its nowhere near as long as yours ovo. Looking at my strand it is quite dark so may do 3 marron and one brun.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 09/04/2016 17:38

Yes I meant 6 cubes. But it does depend how thick your hair is. You could get away with 4. My hair is thin and to my shoulders. I used 4 cubes first time, then 3 cubes last time.

And I've never used a mirror, I just slop it on, rub it in and hope for the best. It's very forgiving stuff. But I am going to up my game next time and get a squeezy bottle to apply it.

And Ovo that is stunning! How do you feel about it now? I honestly think that looks amazing. What has your mum said for her honest opinion? 😀

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:41

I was wondering that too. What did your mum say???
I think it looks beautiful :)

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:43

My hair is quite thin. Definetly not thick. Usually comment is, you have thin hair but lots of it??? Not sure if they are trying to spare my feelings rather than saying its shitty and thin!!!

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:44

*comment from hairdresser is...

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 09/04/2016 17:48

Try 4 cubes, add more water than you think and whisk with elec whisk to a Heinz tomato soup consistency. Oh and photos we need photos!

Thank you again, both of you. I live in a house of males who despite my best efforts haven't learned the art of the compliment so it's very nice to hear such nice things here!

I really like the colour now. I don't do a double take as I pass the mirror now! Already planning my next Lush visit so I'm good to go next time.

My mum, God bless her completely non-aged eyes (she's only 56!), said, "I can't really see a difference."

So I killed her. Was for her own good. She's clearly past her best. Grin

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:51

I will do that :)
Not sure when though. I don't have cling film atm but may go and get some tomorrow Grin You are all tempting me. Thing is though, my hair needs cut so it kind of feels like its a waste to do it now until I can afford to go to the hairdresser.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:52

Atm, I just wear my hair up all the time. Would like to henna it after its had a good shaping iykwim.

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:55

My mum, God bless her completely non-aged eyes (she's only 56!), said, "I can't really see a difference."

That would kind of aggravate me!! House full of males, yip. Know what its like.
You can see a huge difference between the first pictures and the second. Also, did you not post a picture of your hair before you started

Greengardenpixie · 09/04/2016 17:59

Its NOTHING like your original hair colour. I mean your hair was a nice colour originally but its way more vibrant now..in a nice way.
