LUSH henna - why has it took me so long to find this fabulous stuff?

God it's amazing. Been using box dyes for ages to cover the greys in my brown hair. My hair was in terrible condition, dry, thinning, breaking off etc.
Tried the reddy brown Lush henna, it's a gorgeous colour, plus has left it really glossy, hasn't been this shiny all over since I was in my 20s.
Did it about 4 weeks ago and the colour and shine is still as good as when I first did it. Will never use a box dye again.
Promise I don't work for them, just needed to share the love!

If you've got a local hippy-shop you should be able to get henna there, way cheaper and already powdered so no need to grate it!

I love henna, been using it off and on for over 30 years!

I've used many types of henna but the lush is the best. It really varnishes so well.

Smells utterly foul but that fades

I don't mind the smell at all, it reminds me of grass/hay. And I prefer it to ammonia...

If you think the Lush stuff is good you should try mixing your own, it's miles better!!

It's so much easier to use (and gives much better colour) without all the cocoa butter and stuff in it.

I did my henna yesterday.

I have dark brown hair, so you can only see the colour in the sun, but I'm using it to cover down grey as it's just starting to come through.

Does it come out very red? Or just a bit?

I used to buy henna fromthe Body Shop (late 80s) it smelled of mud/coffeegeains/veg peelibgs I think

Does it cover stray white hairs?

I love the smell of the Lush one. I must be weird. I just cut up the blocks and dissolved them in boiling water. It's like I've varnished my hair it's so glossy, but the colour looks v natural. Lush do 4 colours I think, red, reddy brown, brown and black, I imagine on blond hair it would dye it those colours?

Yes it's covered my greys, but I did wrap it in clingfilm with a shower cap on top (v fetching look). Left it in for over 4 hours.

Peaceandlove- lush do 4 different shades, doesn't have to be red, could just go for the one called BRUN, which is chocolatey brown. Good to see so many henna users on here!

4 hours? Crikey, I was tempted until you said that.

I'm a natural ginger and I use the caca rouge, I love it and i don't mind the smell either. It makes my hair so shiny and soft and my scalp feels better too.
I make it up with coffee as it's supposed to darken the colour.

Walkingtheplank I went a bit overboard just to make sure it took, they recommend 30 mins to 3 hrs. It's no bother once it's wrapped in clingfilm. Just can't answer the door or go out!

It does make your hair lovely and smooth, but God what a hassle, and it didn't cover my greys well enough even after 4-5 hours. Nice N Easy semi-permanent works much better for me.

Hmm I've been tempted by it for a while. I have a very sensitive scalp these days though- lots of itching/flakes which at the moment is being controlled by the BodyShop ginger shampoo.

Anyone with sensitive skin tried henna?

I pondered Lush henna a few years ago but thought it was too faffy. I just use box dyes now. How well does henna cover grey?

I agree you have to plan when to put it on. I put it on about 4pm, washed off about 8ish. I wrapped hair in cling film, then shower cap with an old towel wrapped on top and just got on with usual jobs in house. I suppose if someone came to door they would think you've just washed your hair.

Yes it's blended in my greys, made my whole hair thicker and shinier. Hated my hair before, now I can't stop preening it!

Forgot to add the whole block is a tenner but my hair reaches my shoulders so only need to use half a block per go. The staff at lush advised how to prepare it. It goes on dry hair.

Lush don't do a blonde henna do tney?

I tend to leave mine on for a minimum of 4 hours, usually more like 6 or 8 - as long as poss really. And if you can get heat in there that helps develop the colour.

There are also loads of additions to help colour - paprika, coffee, all kinds of things.

I used to work for Lush.

I'm naturally blond and we did sample tests of the henna on a couple of locks of my hair.

The black henna turned my hair an indigo blue, the other (red I think) just turned it brown.

Funnily enough I did mine last Friday night!

I use the BRUN and it leaves my donkey brown with a reddish tinge and grey bits hair a gorgeous shiny conker colours

The only problems is it is a messy business - bathroom looks like there was a dirty protest in there. DD wanted to know if I had had 'an accident' as I hadn't quite wiped it all up.

Will definitely check this out to cover my grays!
