I'm going to transform myself - would anyone like to join me?

I need to get a grip and I think posting here might help me!

I need to lose some weight, concentrate on personal grooming and give myself a makeover, generally. I want to look and feel better and up my look at work.

Is anyone else interested in joining me?

My aims and ideas are (yours may be different):

Get my teeth bleached
Find out whether to (or how to) deal with my fairly new moustache FOR EVER
Ditto chin hairs
Sort out my fungal toenail
Get a new work wardrobe at some point
Get my nails gelled and keep them maintained
Give up sugar and carbs
Sleep enough, drink slightly less
Be happy!

I am generally, but I do need to look less like a hag, I have let myself go a bit and it's got to stop. Anyone else in?

Weigh in day today for me at slimming world, I always seem to manage to be totally virtuous when I know I'm stepping on the scales. If only I could do it more than one day a week!! Planned my tea tonight from sw recipe book and my walk today will be to the post office. Also, feeling a bit better finally (less snotty!) And MIL has offered to have my boys tomorrow which means I might get a chance to go shopping on my own and start ticking things off my list.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2016 07:57

Oooh, and meant to ask if anyone has seen/tried that Colgate max white toothbrush with the Whitening pen? They are 4.99 in asda, which made me think it was a bit cheap? Thought maybe use that and then brush after with my pronamel?

lavenderhoney · 16/03/2016 08:00

Body lotion all over every time I have a bath or shower is my thing to get into the habit of this week.

And footner tonight, and re do my nails.

I've been making myself drink loads of water and go to bed at ten. Plus do my hair properly and tie it back in bed, so it's not a panic stricken mess by morning:)

gastropod · 16/03/2016 08:01

Great thread! Lots of inspiration.
Here's a tip for the toenail: fill a small spray bottle with apple cider vinegar (the organic/raw cloudy kind). Spray toenail morning and night and let it air dry. (The vinegar smell disappears once it's dried.)
Works better than anything else I've tried. Cheap too.
(Try not to use any varnish on the nail till it's completely healed though)

HairsprayQueen · 16/03/2016 08:26

newaverage it was £11 wherever I saw it (either Boots or Tesco) so I might try it from Asda for a fiver. No idea if it's any good but I love a gimmick.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/03/2016 09:37

Not doing well - have had horrendous diarrhoea since Monday night. So I'm working from home in my pyjamas and a big jumper and haven't washed my hair since Sunday! Have eaten lots of bread and some leftover birthday cake, so not doing well with low-carbing!

LazyCake · 16/03/2016 12:56

Had another horrendously late night last night, but compensated by applying Superdrug overnight glycolic peel before sleep. I also spritzed on some perfume before getting to bed - made me feel all glamorous, like a 1950s film star, notwithstanding the bedsocks and old T-shirt I was also wearing... Grin

For lunch I made cauliflower and broccoli cheese, but substituted my usual flour/milk/butter sauce base for blended cauliflower, as I really want to reduce my gluten and dairy intake and up my veggies. It tasted AMAZING: just as good as a typical cheese sauce, maybe better.

StarChaser99 · 16/03/2016 14:35

Tooextra I think that in your situation the carbs are necessary and I reckon even glamour goddesses have days off for illness. I'd be interested in any feedback on the tooth whitening pen (they keep advertising it on Britains Next top model).

My check in today. Have had a better day food wise (it couldn't have been much worse) kept up with water drinking and skin regime and am planning on doing my sit ups as usual tonight. Am on a mission to improve my hair which means washing it less (washing it every day is just frazzling it according to my hairdresser). So today is my first no hair wash day. It feels horrendous (I know it's just something I need to adjust to) but tried to compensate by styling it in a pony tail (using a YouTube video and everything) rather than just scraping it back and have invested in some decent dry shampoo. I'm not sure how good it looks but I feel better that I tried.

My clothes and weight are definitely letting the side down now though. I have one more big food day tomorrow but then I have to get in the game food wise and really start controlling my diet.

littleleftie · 16/03/2016 15:51

lazy was the superdrug glycolic peel thingy any good?

I am being very good with food and going to bed early.

Not so good re booze as still having one glass of wine every night, but that's a reduction and I am including it on mfp.

Weight is still dropping off me - have lost 5lbs since Sunday. I am 5 ft 5 and was 12st 7 and am now 12st 2. I always seem to lose a lot of weight initially and then I just get stuck.

I have also managed to do 15./20 mins on exercise bike but disability means I can't really do more than that at the moment which is annoying a I would love nothing better than to go for a long walk.

Have been moisturising and using exfoliating body scrub. Also doing face mask once a week. I have been using Lush Mask of Magnaminty and it is AMAZING!!!

badasscafe1 · 16/03/2016 17:13

did my eyebrows this AM (tinted) and happy with that.... so at least something done.... and water and less sugar going well..... have an off day tomorrow but will at least try to drink water......

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 16/03/2016 18:11

Food is a carb-heavy disasater zone, but am wearing make up every day (cc cream, mascara, lipstick, eyeshadow sometimes, blusher) and love it. Am also taking it off every night!!! Cleansing and moisturing routine are nailed, but I need to work out which products to add. Exercise is also a disaster zone.

Need to do a full Kondo clear out of clothes, but have done this fairly recently so nothing too hideous.

Tonight: toe nail polish and face mask, and no alcohol or junk food.
Tomorrow: attempt to run if DH home (young DC).

Whattodowithaminute · 16/03/2016 18:25

Would love to join you all as this is much needed. Am expecting ds3 in August so any weight loss attempts will have to wait a few months yet. Have been trying to get my haircut more frequently and it looks loads better for it, had a shellac on my nails a couple of times and loved the effect but nails have flaked horribly since I had if taken off.... Any way around it?

Am trying to put some mascara on most days as realised any form of makeup was a very rare occasion.

Trying not to wear crap clothes. I used to love heels and have 60
Odd pairs but since I had ds1 they don't fit and aren't practical either... Need some alternatives urgently!

Will catch up on the full thread later, have only managed the first couple of pages so far....

Here's to having the gorgeous ladies
Back in town Wine

LazyCake · 16/03/2016 18:29

littleleftie, the Superdrug peel is ok, and very cheap. My skin does feel a bit softer and smoother the morning after I have used it. I think it's ok to apply it a few times a week, so it must be a pretty mild formulation. I have heard it said that, when it comes to exfoliation, little and often is better than occasional and aggressive.

I have another peeling product, which I prefer. It's called Simon & Tom Soft Peeling Gel, and I got if off Amazon for £15. Just had a quick look at the listing and it appears to have doubled in price since then, but maybe it'll be discounted soon.

RoganJosh · 16/03/2016 18:35

Hi everyone, may I join you?
I started in about September with operation Do Some Excercise. I've had a few false starts with broken bits but now have lost 12lbs and am doing a 12 min routine every day.
Next steps. I've bought gentle cleanser and an acid toner (in a Hironsesque manner) and my skin might be looking slightly better as of last week.
I also got the Mavala formaldehyde nail strengthener which I've been using the last couple of weeks after reading about on here.
I'm on a mission to find a nice perfume, having gone off my old ones since my youngest child was born. I've got a taster box coming (thanks to thread on here) and a few other samples.
In less lovely areas, I'm attempting to tripledry my sweaty bits and trying to sort out my floppy undercarriage. I'm also thinking my bumpy legs may be as a result of wearing skinnier jeans now I'm thinner.

I had a bit of an epiphany the other day where I realised that style at my age isn't either scruffy/frumpy or a bit smarter. I want to find the third way - casual but interesting. I think it may be harder than the smarter option but I'm going to try.

I'm sure there is more.

Oh. Last night I died my eyelashes and eyebrow and slathered my feet in grease.

Favouritethings · 16/03/2016 19:35

Pedicured my feet this morning after my shower. Chose the healthiest meal deal possible in Boots. Hairdresser postponed my haircut to tomo eve which is no bad thing as I'm feeling very chesty/coldy. So going to have a donut to make me feel a bit happier!!

RoganJosh · 16/03/2016 19:51

*dyed! I dyed my eyelashes.

Ememem84 · 16/03/2016 20:01

Can I join?

My plans:

Gym three times a week
Wear hair a bit differently twice a week (usually just wear down and straight)
Think more carefully about outfits - am trying to save money so am not buying any new clothes
Teeth whitening
More frequent eyebrow wax
Drink more water

littleleftie · 16/03/2016 20:05

Thanks lazy I will try out one of those.

To those who dye their own eyebrows, how easy is it and what do you use? I pay to get mine done but if I can do it myself that should save me a few quid no? My eyebrows are almost non existent. Quite sparse and very very pale, so they have to be done or I have no definition at all.

LazyCake · 16/03/2016 20:12

Hi leftie, me again! Re: tinting brows, I use Eyelure, in dark brown. When the colour goes on, it looks as though it'll be far too warm, but when you remove the product the shade that is left is quite cool. I actually prefer doing my own brows at home as I can keep checking to see how the colour is taking. I have had some bad experiences with professional dye-jobs coming out way, way too dark for my blonde colouring.

Eyelure is £10-ish from Boots. I don't do mine very often, so find a pack will last me almost 6 months.

Welcome, Ememem!

LazyCake · 16/03/2016 20:15

Ps. The first time I tried doing my own brows, I was convinced that I'd stain my skin and have to hide indoors for days, but this never happens. You can slather the colour all over the place, and it just wipes off. The instructions say to mask the skin surrounding the brows with Vaseline, but I never bother. It's ridiculously easy and only takes about 5 mins.

littleleftie · 16/03/2016 20:33

Great thanks - I shall get myself to Boots - luckily there is one right near where I work. I used to dye my own hair when it was red, but now I am blonde I leave that to the professionals, but I reckon I can do my eyebrows.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 16/03/2016 20:36

Does anyone else use this superdrug resurfacing night serum? It's the dog's proverbials.

LazyCake · 16/03/2016 20:52

Oooh, no haven't heard about it before... Just clicked your link though and the reviews look fantastic - plus only £4.89!! (Love a beauty bargain...)

Ememem84 · 16/03/2016 20:54

I also need to moisturise body more (mostly because I have a ton of moisturiser to use up) and cleanse tone and moisturise my face properly every day.

I've been to the gym today. Yippee. And have chosen my outfit for tomorrow. Tweed skirt, black tights, tab boots, white top and black cardigan. Never worn the skirt before. Bought it months ago. And it still has the labels on it.
