I bra intervened myself with the help of a MN thread from aaaages ago I found on google.

I've changed size shape, not loads, but enough for my bra to be tight. Had cup spillage, digging in around the back, all a fucking disaster.

I was uncomfortable, my back ached and my boobs were deeply miserable.

Current bras were pretty threadbare anyway and the knickers weren't much better. It all needs replacing.

Bought a new bra. Lovely. Fits beautifully. Ordered more. Found a company called Curvy Kate and am already a fan.

I am once again at peace with the world. Bras and boobs are now my new hobby.

However, whilst browsing online for bra advice I came across loads of sites saying the bra measurey ladies in shops just say anything to get you to buy stuff and catalogue/website models are nearly ALL wearing the wrong sizes in pictures.

Is this true?

Is there a conspiracy?

I'm fascinated!

What I've done in the past was to get the bras that seemed fine in the shop and after a proper trial run, order another of them online, in a different colour and cheaper.

maxybrown · 21/03/2016 20:27

ok I want to cry. HELP ME - I apologise in advance for the brutal post of my chest but I now have no more shame and so here it all is.

I am not new to the bra interventions at all. After discovering Bravissimo about 11 years ago and, for the first time ever in my life able to wear underwired I was hooked. (ha)

Back then I was a 34FF and loved to wear Freya. Then I had a baby and went up to I think 38H when I was feeding. I have always worn Fantasie since, they seemed to suit me better and I was comfortable.

Now DS is 8 Blush and I am wearing a fantasie Helena and I am fat.

I am currently wearing a 5/6 year old bra (I know I know) it is a size 36G and is killing me. It's now mega springy and cups are clearly too small. It is digging in under my arms againsyt my breasts.

So I measure a 37 ish underneath and around 50/51 ( I know, gulp) around my boobs.

So I get to Debenhams this morning as they open, perfect as nice and quiet.

I grab a few sizes to give them a try. IN actual fact the HH and J cups just had too much fabric - I mean really too much and I went down again the back to a 34 and there wasn't a cat in hells chance I could fasten some of them.

Coupled with the fact I have really sore achy hands and dodgy shoulders I was really struggling so had t reluctantly get the assistant in.

She wasn't toooooo bad but insisted I was a 38GG (I feel comfier in a 36 band though) and I kept trying to show her how that cup was still too small for me. I'm not sure she was getting it and so I left with NOTHING and I honestly wanted to cry.

I felt so ashamed as the whole return to shelf rail was almost FULL just from the bras she was trying on me Blush

So, please please size me - I know the bra interventin thingy puts me at a cup of about zzz but honestly the cups in the HH and J were really far to big lots of wrinkles - and yes I scopped and scooped and scooped.

Like I say I am used to having properly fitted bras but I am at my wits end at the minute.

Thanks Jobellinger for the R&P link. Lweji is there anywhere online you can recommend for cheaper bras?

Lweji · 21/03/2016 22:01

I've used belle-lingerie, but it might be worth checking different sites.

marriednotdead · 21/03/2016 22:30

The R&P link was an eye opener, the first few styles before the red/purple were cut too low at the armpit for the 'model' and if I'm paying the best part of £100 for a bra, I don't expect to have to have it altered...

I'll PM you if that's ok maxybrown, you sound as if you had a lousy time in the hands of someone who knew less than you do Flowers

leedy · 22/03/2016 08:49

Lweji, thanks so much for the extender tip! I'm wearing the Freya bra that previously felt like an instrument of torture about the rib cage and with just a tiny bit extra in the band from the extender it is now supremely comfy. Presumably eventually the actual band will stretch out enough that I can do without the extender? (also presumably the extender brings it to about half-way between this and the next up band size?)

Interestingly I looked at the ridiculously-named but helpful Bratabase and quite a few people thought this particular model of Deco had a very rigid/un-giving band. Not just me then...

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2016 11:12

I find the overly rigid bands are often causes by badly thought out edges and trims - often the band can stretch but then they shove something on top that can't. Or use a bad thread.

TheCrumpettyTree · 22/03/2016 11:23

I went from a 34C to a 32F after having the DC. I got measured properly in Bravissimo. They are amazing and now I always shop there. I can't believe how wrong I got it before.

Lweji · 22/03/2016 11:56

Please don't leave.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2016 12:22

Grin Lweji, the gang's all here now!

Lweji · 22/03/2016 12:48

Yay!

Homeriliad · 22/03/2016 12:56

I came to this thread with such high hopes, butregretfully discovered there were no pics. Sad

Lweji · 22/03/2016 13:08

Terrifiedandregretful · 22/03/2016 16:48

Re. Nursing bras I found Elomi underwired bras were the only ones that worked for me. Even the bravissimo nursing bras were too small. Sad and not having the support of an underwire was agony with heavy bf boobs. I bought mine from a fab online company called ample bosom.

Terrifiedandregretful · 22/03/2016 16:51

Can't you go back to Bravissimo maxy? I don't trust anywhere else.

leedy · 22/03/2016 21:02

OMG I have just found an entire page explaining my weird sideways breasts (like, the pictures MIGHT WELL BE OF MY OWN CHEST) and recommending bras. Unsurprisingly almost all the bras I currently own are in their "might fit" list (Freya Lauren and Patsy padded half cups and Decos), I haven't tried anything in their "good fit" list but am sorely tempted.

FanjoBean · 28/03/2016 18:08

I went to M&S looking for nursing bras when DD was newborn. Had done the bra intervention beforehand and been wearing a 32J but my bf-ing boobs were massive and sore and I'd put a bit of weight on so wasn't a 32 anymore, and M&S is the only place in my town that does big(ish) sizes and I wanted to try something on before I bought it.

A fitting lady bundled me into a cubicle with a few different sizes of nursing bra, including a 42D, even after I had told her my previous size. That obviously didn't fit. Eventually managed to fit my boobs into a 40 or 42G, but the cup was digging in while the back was literally drooping. I pointed out that the cups weren't big enough and what did she do? Went to look for a 44. Because they only go up to a G cup.

FanjoBean · 28/03/2016 18:08

Needless to say I didn't buy any of them!

hollinhurst84 · 28/03/2016 19:17

I'm a curvy Kate and ewa michalak fan
Panache used to be my favourite but now the centre gore tries to impale me along with the armpits
I like cups cut lower under the arm as I find them really uncomfy otherwise. Bravissimo Alana also works pretty well but I prefer the Ewa shape (I like cleavage!)

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2016 19:59

I'm a EM fan too! Best bras ever (alas, customer service doesn't always match)

hollinhurst84 · 28/03/2016 20:29

I'm under a NC Wink think we chatted about her bras before. The new bikini looks fab, but pricey

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2016 22:55

The pink one? Yes it does look rather nice. I tend to go for halternecks for bikinis so that I can tie the straps around my body to avoid tan lines Grin

hollinhurst84 · 28/03/2016 22:56

Halter necks are a dream in my size Grin

SorrelForbes · 28/03/2016 22:59

There is a tendency towards neck ache I confess Grin
