I bra intervened myself with the help of a MN thread from aaaages ago I found on google.

I've changed size shape, not loads, but enough for my bra to be tight. Had cup spillage, digging in around the back, all a fucking disaster.

I was uncomfortable, my back ached and my boobs were deeply miserable.

Current bras were pretty threadbare anyway and the knickers weren't much better. It all needs replacing.

Bought a new bra. Lovely. Fits beautifully. Ordered more. Found a company called Curvy Kate and am already a fan.

I am once again at peace with the world. Bras and boobs are now my new hobby.

However, whilst browsing online for bra advice I came across loads of sites saying the bra measurey ladies in shops just say anything to get you to buy stuff and catalogue/website models are nearly ALL wearing the wrong sizes in pictures.

Is this true?

Is there a conspiracy?

I'm fascinated!

I love the thread title.

I went from a 36B (M&S) to wearing a 14E (34E NZ size now) after a bra intervention thread.

I couldn't believe it, back fat gone, back ache gone, dp's eyeballs almost gone when he realised Grin

I love telling everyone at any opportunity about crappy bra measuring and the correct way to do it. Blush

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/03/2016 09:23

I'm wearing thread bear feeding bras from 2 babies ago. Blush I can't wait to stop bfing so I can buy some pretty and comfortable bras.

PollyPerky · 08/03/2016 11:55

Oh it's annoying reading about all your massive boobs. What about us lesser titted sisters?

I used to be a 34A I thought. Then I moved up to a 34B (just) after 2 DCs and got a slight boob increase with HRT.

Then I measured and under bust is 29-30, over bust is about 35.
I now wear either a 30D or 30DD, or 32D.
I find brands vary so much as do bras within brands.
Some 30s won't fasten, others are comfortable.

KatharinaRosalie · 08/03/2016 11:55

I've BF 2 kids in the past 3 years and I'm not wearing nursing bras. They're horrible, unsupportive and give you a droopy sweaty uni-boob.
Personally I find it's actually easier to slide the strap down your shoulder and pull the boob out, than to fiddle with clips. I wouldn't recommend this in a full cup bra, but totally doable in a half-cup.

yazzy85 · 08/03/2016 12:24

I was in 34c/d before and after intervention wear 30e and new bras are soooo much more supportive! I get on well with Cleo and Panance as I need narrower wires.

I am large of nork and I found that when I stopped breastfeeding my boobs temporarily lost volume but they literally bounced back within about 6 months and looked the same as before.

SoyYo · 08/03/2016 12:55

34FF here but have lost 10lb and last Figleaves order returned...still have 9lb of fat to shed to ideal 10stone weight so waiting till then for bra intervention.
Tits in fairly good shape despite early fifties, breastfeeding 2DCs in my youth for a loong time and early menapause (no HRT) so I reckon how they age is purely genetic and to some degree totally independent of cup size.
I feel lucky overall even if I have to wear different dress sizes top and bottom and having to think when choosing how to dress without overexposure or looking matronly.
My one unresolved issue with bras is they are FOREVER falling off my shoulders its sooo annoying and I'm developing deep shoulder strap marks from tightening bra strapsAngry

Any idea why this happens when the bra fits well otherwise? Favourite make is Fantasie underwired balconette styles, can't stand padded bras as I don't need further "enhancing"

KatharinaRosalie · 08/03/2016 13:07

SoyYo first are you sure the back is not too large? Straps falling off is a very typical sing. What do you measure under bust?

If that's not the issue, you probably need another style, as balconnette bra straps are set quite wide. Full cup might work better, or some special stules with straps set closer, I think Fantasie Esme was one of such models

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 08/03/2016 13:09

Re: Padded bras.

Tesco bras, they all have a good few centimetres of padding on them. Can understand on the smaller sizes but on E, F and G bras?

Don't need more bloody padding. T-shirts are already filled to capacity. I don't need fucking padding.

I have terrible trouble finding bras to fit. I'm 30F with hardly any gap between my breasts which means I'm stuck with plunge bras & I can't find any that don't have thick padded cups which leave an obvious line under my t-shirt. I've given up for now - I wear jumpers everywhere but I'll have to do something before summer comes. I hate shopping. Sad

sephineee · 08/03/2016 13:23

Pre dc (3 and bf all of them for varying amounts of time) I was a 32E and they looked fake to be honest, high, round, in your face and I HATED them.

Post dc I am told I am still a 32E. They are like spaniels ears, no roundness at all on the topside, quite low. The moulded bras (and YES on the padding) I use to seek out look odd no and the boob just sort of flops underneath the cup line.

I am happier with my spaniels ears than I ever was with my fake-fakers but have no idea how to dress them. Am considering planning a London trip this summer to ask someone to help me. Who should I ask??

This thread is fascinating.

katienana · 08/03/2016 13:32

Padded or moulded bras just make my tits fall out. I can't bear them!

SoyYo · 08/03/2016 13:51

Flowers Katharina for answering
I don't own a measure tape (only DH's DYI metal retractable tape and that wouldn't work or would it?)
I'm fairly sure I'm a 34"back as I've been measured at Bravissimo in the past and I've consistently been that size when I'm fat I still fit it on the last fastening and now I've lost a few pounds in on the second set of notches and feel supported though I may have gone down a little on cup size
I will look at Fantasie model you recommend in general I dislike full coverage bras and balconettes hoist tits up better but really fed up with falling straps so willing to reconsider.
If you know of other makes (not Panache, Freya, Curvy Kate tried them and don't get on with them) that I should consider please let me know.

And padding...just WTF on DD+? Confused don't go there!

Rinceoir · 08/03/2016 13:58

The woman who made my wedding dress told me I was not a 36D but a 30F. I had literally spent years with bands riding up, straps falling down etc. Im currently wearing 34F but I've lost weight and have almost weaned DD (down to 1 feed a day) so I think a 32F would be a better fit now.

SoyYo · 08/03/2016 13:59

I read an article (Sunday Times Style) a while ago about this lady going to this little lingerie shop in Paris where the make you the perfect hand stitched lacy bra totally made to fit your breasts perfectly, hundreds of ££ and several fittings later perfect fit
It's a tit fantasy if mine to go and have this done! GrinGrin

SquadGoals · 08/03/2016 14:05

A few years ago I went from a 34DD to a 30GG overnight.

It was amazing how many people thought I'd lost a significant amount of weight.

I tend to wear a 32G now as I don't have much padding on my ribs and sometimes a 30 back digs in a bit too much.

KatharinaRosalie · 08/03/2016 14:24

SoyYo another option is racer back clips. I don't know how comfortable they are though.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 08/03/2016 14:50

SoyYo try Pour moi, they have some lovely unpadded styles and they tend to have slightly closer together straps.

SoyYo · 08/03/2016 15:01

Katharina & Mrs Charles Thank You will investigate!
Racer back clips might be a solution also for Pilates class as I had been looking at sports bras (due to aforementioned falling straps even more annoying when exercising) but hadn't a clue where to start
Enjoying this thread and everyone's "Tit Tales"!

Lweji · 08/03/2016 15:15

sephineee

For low sitting boobs balcony or demi cups fit better than full cups.

Personally, I like moulded bras because they are thicker and don't show the nipples sticking out. My nipples easily protrude and I tend to feel conscious.

Lweji · 08/03/2016 15:17

I also have a strapless that I tend to use with straps, but it has the advantage of allowing different positions for the straps, including crossing at the back, which is good for exercise.
Bras with removable straps (or the clips for the back) are also great to wear with sleeveless tops so that the straps are not visible.

fluffywol · 08/03/2016 15:21

Fascinating subject, tits Grin

Can someone help me please? I've lost shit-loads of weight recently and I'm currently in a 38DD, after being in a 40 or even 42 back for too long. The current size is both too big in the band and the cup, so should I still go up a cup size when I go down a band size, as I obviously need to? The looseness in the cup mainly seems to be at the top. I measure 35" under and 43" when bending over and hanging free.

ThomasSofty · 08/03/2016 15:27

I always stick to moulded cups because my boobs are lop-sided Blush, and moulded cups help even them out a bit. I don't find they give a visible line under my clothes, but I wear vests too so maybe that helps.

I hate my boobs, and I hate bra shopping. Have always found M&S bras to be fine (limited collection plunge style get a thumbs up from me), but I always fit myself. Feeling pretty grouchy that my 36E bras don't feel as supportive anymore, although my weight is the same. 34G seems to be the most supportive after trying several sizes, although I'm not quite sure so have bought one to try.
