Well, I've grabbed the bull by the horns & am leaping into the new thread........

Felt very sad no one else had started one whilst I scoffed dined.

If no one like the title I am more than happy to have it deleted & go with anything else.

DH has taken over the catering for the month of February......... the food is good but the angst is another matter Grin

Blimey, BTM - sounds like it will be quite a job. Worth it, I'd say. DSM has implants; she basically "pops" her teeth onto little press-studs in her gums, and says they are solid as anything.

Have phoned college alumni office to see who the other "overflow" candidates for the college gaudy are; out of all the names, I recognised about three, and I can't say I would rush to spend an evening with any of them. Espcially an evening that will cost at least £150, once accommodation and travel is included. So I shall probably decline their kind offer. I'm just kicking myself I was so slow to apply for a ticket. FOMO! Sad

Lasagne is in the oven, awaiting DD1's return from theatre trip (The Woman in Black) and DD2 from gymnastics. I'm starving!

herbaceous · 25/02/2016 19:10

Mmmmmm, lasagne. [said in Homer Simpson voice]

I'm back on the 5:2, and starving also. I have taken to slowly licking teaspoons of Marmite to assuage the desire for food. Does the trick!

Wore my new Sainsbury's tunic today, and it was very comfy and nice to wear. Though I realise gauging a garment's appeal via its comfort means it's a short hop to size 20 Chums kaftans.

hattymattie · 25/02/2016 19:35

I've given up and had egg and chips. DS is safely on train for the mountains. DD2 and I are going to watch Bridesmaids Hmm her choice.

CV - I didnt realise implants came in and out - I thought they were like permanent teeth.

bigTillyMint · 25/02/2016 20:07

I didn't think= implants came out either - I thought they were like permanent teeth too. Maybe they are a different type?

CV, that's a shame re the reunion. Are you in contact with any people who are actually going that you want to catch up with? Could you arrange to see them for brunch the next day or something?

magimedi · 25/02/2016 20:09

I am 'well oiled'!

Just had the loveliest day in Brighton with a very dear friend. Went to the Pavillion - she hadn't been before & was worth it just to hear here say 'Holy Fuck' when we entered the dining room. Grin

Lovely long, long lunch with Wine (left restaurant at 4pm) & a wander back up the Lanes & Laines, with a quick stop for a restorative gin before catching trains home.

Am having" yeta 'nother" wine - so that hangover does not arrive until I am asleep. Idea of brilliance - non?

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/02/2016 20:19

MagiMedi - you definitely need to come to a meet up!

I had lunch with a very old friend today. We went out for dinner a month or so ago and had a bit of a falling out, but now back to normal. So we had wine with lunch, and then I wobbled back to the office and he went to John Lewis to buy an airer. What exciting lives we lead.

hattymattie · 25/02/2016 20:30

MMGrin sounds like you had a great day. Bridesmaids is er ... as I suspected.

CointreauVersial · 25/02/2016 20:36

I'm sure there are different sorts of implants.....DM had the "roots" set into her jawbone, then removes the teeth to clean. It might be because she has three in a row.

MI, what a lovely day! I'm very envious. I had a stinker of a day at work, and tomorrow morning will be hellish, as we have a midday deadline for a big submission. I shall be a limp rag by lunchtime.

BTM - my best mates from college have also been slow off the mark and missed out on places at the gaudy, but there are loads of others I tend to catch up with every few years, at weddings, funerals and events like this, but don't necessarily have contact details. Oh well, not this year.

Well done, Herbs, on the 5:2. I am "testing" a pasta sauce for MN, otherwise I wouldn't bother faffing about with carby old lasagne mid week. It was yummy, incidentally.

CointreauVersial · 25/02/2016 20:38

I meant, Magi, not MI. Why MI would spring to mind when I'm reading about an afternoon piss-up, I've no idea! Wink

hattymattie · 25/02/2016 20:46

MMGrin sounds like you had a lovely day.

Bridesmaids is er ... as I suspected.

hattymattie · 25/02/2016 20:48

Weird - is a time lag in my posting making me think I haven't posted!

Stropperella · 25/02/2016 20:51

My day has been a big old pile of fuck-noodles. I suddenly had a horrible flashback on the way to work which caused uncontrollable blubbing (extremely unusual); struggled to make sense of what I was supposed to be doing at work (mental meltdown meant I couldn't make sense of my own planning) and then ended up accidentally sitting with someone I didn't know at lunchtime. Why problematic? Because I slowly realised that he was the person with the child dying of cancer that I was told about yesterday. Oh I was not feeling at my most socially adept. Bugger.

Lalsy · 25/02/2016 20:52

MM Grin.

Off to wash up and try to imagine a more exciting mid week afternoon plan than buying a new airer from John Lewis.

Lalsy · 25/02/2016 20:54

Stropps, cross-post, sounds horrible. Hope you can get a good night's sleep.

motherinferior · 25/02/2016 22:17

Stropps, how utterly grim - but I honestly wouldn't worry about the colleague, as he will I would guess really not be registering things like that (and will register support at other times Sad).

Great envy of Magi's lunch. I am back east tomorrow as I have a meeting near Liverpool st station. Will stay with a friend and then see my mum for lunch out. This is going to be rather sad.

Blackduck · 26/02/2016 06:08

Stropps sorry to hear you had a tough day...

I am home tonight and seeing mum to tell her about care home....
Meanwhile social services are pressurising dad to move her into one which is miles away and impossible to get to. We have said no. This is after weeks of doing nothing, cross communication etc. etc. whilst understanding their pressures it is no good sticking someone in a home that their partner can't get to.... They also suggested a temporary move to which we said no too....

Only really dawned on me yesterday how hard this must be for dad - that your partner of 55+ years will never come back to the family home...

bigTillyMint · 26/02/2016 06:54

Stropps, sorry yesterday was shit - hopefully today will be better. And I'm sure you will have plenty of opportunities to show support to that colleague in the future.

BD, good luck - hope it goes OK with your DM. Well done for sticking to your guns about which one is best for her and your DDad. It is a really hard time, especially for himFlowers

MM, your lunch sounds fab and energising. I haven't been to Brighton in ages.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/02/2016 08:10

Sorry Stropps, BD and MI for all the shit you're going through.

But I do love the expression "fuck-noodles." Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/02/2016 08:13

I really need some leave - even a couple of days off to do nothing, but I can't apply for any, as my boss hasn't approved my leave allocation yet. She also hadn't approved my claims for recent travel, leaving me some £700 out of pocket. Thankfully I was able to forward them to someone else, and they are now being sorted.

motherinferior · 26/02/2016 08:13

I got in from Ladyjogging to encounter Mr Inferior in high grump. He flounced out grabbing his bag...

...and has just texted to say his bag is wet and smells of cat pee. As does he now. I am very bad person because I am sniggering.

magimedi · 26/02/2016 09:02

Stropps - Hope you are feeling better today.

MI - wishing you strength

BD - so sad. Do not let SS fob you off with a home that doesn't work for your family & DM. Once SS have got her in a home they will not be at all interested in helping her to move.

I am feeling remarkably good! Far more so than I deserve to!

NUFC69 · 26/02/2016 09:04

Mi, Grin Here we have the joy of DS's two cats, but contrary to what DH thought, they are no trouble apart from emptying the litter tray. Also they bolt to the front door every time they hear it open and we have to herd them away. I hope your trip to see DM goes ok.

BD, good luck with the talk and hugs to your DF - it must be devastating for him, and also don't discount any guilt he may feel, even though he will know it is irrational.

Stropps, I am sure the father of the child with cancer will not think any the less of you. He will need lots of support in the coming weeks and months.

DH is going out cycling and I will go swimming, I think. It's DD's birthday at the start of March so I may go and peruse handbags at TK Max.

NUFC69 · 26/02/2016 09:07

Oh, and MrsS, your boss's attitude is appalling: you should not be out of pocket and it's not acceptable not to know your holiday entitlement.

Glad to hear that you don't feel too bad this morning, MM. Yesterday sounded lovely, although I have never been to Brighton, I don't think, so I am not sure what I am missing.
