MrsS - that is one of my, long forgotten, favourites.

CV - great joke on the hoof (as it were)

WAF - get that tooth out, now. I had one a bit like that & dentist gave me loads of anesthetic (sp?) & it came out in 30 seconds. No moer problems, or, worse, worrying about the problems.

Auriga · 08/02/2016 23:07

BTM, sorry you are having all these heart -in - mouth experiences. It'll be a (comparative) relief when your Mum's in residential care. She may seem worse for a while, until she gets used to it but they should be able to make her comfortable physically & stop her from putting herself at more risk.

Crem, enjoy your journey, it's still part of the holiday. Let's have a few last wafty pics?

Got to choir late (trains, wind, power lines ). New music got my attention. Top F staccato, repeat for two pages Shock. Need to get in training Grin

hattymattie · 09/02/2016 06:30

BTM - I take it you don't want a poster size photo on the wall Grin. Hope it all goes well for your DM today and she ends up safe. DGran and her profoundly deaf "lover" were were still mobile and DM got a call from a very bewildered bank one day where they had arrived and tried to open a joint bank account - there was this and other stories.

hattymattie · 09/02/2016 07:40

Am feeling unreasonably grumpy this morning (hormones?) as despite buying both DC's an umbrella for Christmas, they have "lost" them somewhere and have reverted to pilfering mine - it is tossing it down outside. DH keeps his locked in his briefcase - I think he may be right to do this. [needs grumpy emoticon].

Anyway, off to work in the rain - have a good day crepeys.

Rosebag · 09/02/2016 09:01

Chortling at the jokes Grin

Shock at turbulent flight MrsS

Tilly really hope all goes smoothly for DM's transfer to the care home this afternoon. You, above all need some peace of mind. After she's settled she should be comfortable and safe. Flowers

WAF you poor thing. Dental pain is about the only thing that made me nearly overdose on pain killers but as MI says, best not. I had an impacted, partially erupted wisdom tooth which started giving me trouble in my 30's. After a few bouts of infection and TMJ problems, I had it out in the chair. It was loads easier and quicker than a filling, I would say that. And it didn't hurt, with the injection. and I'm a complete wuss about the dentist It'll take about 48 hours for the AB's to kick in. Maybe you'll be feeling better by later on today. Flowers

I am feeling a little lifted in mood, yes. DH seemed to like his first day. ConS and I have kissed and made up, and he apologised for his rudeness. I am still very preoccupied with the annoying trustee sitch, and still don't know what's happening regarding my pay for the teaching gig in March. Trying to keep it in perspective. Hmm

Molls have put 23rd in the diary for Fortnums. Say about 11am? Any other takers joining the laydeez who brunch? Grin

I have a man in the garden, trimming our mad fig tree. I say 'trimming', it's more like wholesale slaughter. But it had practically taken over the entire garden, so something had to be done.

Highly amusing thread on 'chat' about a husband always losing his keys, then accusing wife of moving them. And the murderous rage this engenders within said wife.

Taking DS to his first 'class' swimming lessons after school today. He seems very excited. And yesterday he rushed home from school to make his teacher a PowerPoint presentation about a bird-feeder he's made for school, by threading some Cheerios onto a shoelace. Love him.

motherinferior · 09/02/2016 11:41

I am dealing – or rather my lovely commissioning editor is – with a bloke I interviewed who exemplifies that old joke about what’s the difference between a consultant and God: God doesn’t think he’s a consultant.

And my mother (who maintains the ability to be maddening) has been informing me on the importance of being aware of the many different foreign heritages of the South Indian coast. THAT IS WHY I HAVE WRITTEN A NOVEL ABOUT THIS TOPIC, MOTHER, AND JUST SENT YOU A SHORT STORY THAT DEALS WITH ANOTHER ASPECT OF IT. I HAVE BEEN READING IN-DEPTH RESEARCH ON THIS FOR SOME YEARS.

Rah! AngryAngryAngryMI. How enervating Sad

And so we say farewell to this beautiful island in the sun. À Bientôt.

bigTillyMint · 09/02/2016 13:19

Wow Cremo - lovely!

CointreauVersial · 09/02/2016 13:20

Aww, Crem.....all good things must come to an end.

Hatty - the solution is to buy yourself an umbrella so unpleasant that none of your DCs will be seen dead using it. Suggest something pink and frilly, possibly a jazzy print, and tassels hanging from the handle. Mine has glitter on it. Grin

BeachysFlipFlops · 09/02/2016 14:49

Ah Crem, that's lovely. Are you creeping out early morning? So much nicer than hanging around looking awkward by the pool all day in jeans and a jumper Smile

Dreamqueen · 09/02/2016 15:03

Crem, that looks lovely, safe journey home.
Waf, hope you're tooth is feeling less painful,
BTM, hope your Mum settles in well & that it gives you some peace of mind.
Rose, glad that your DH likes his new job.

Sadly, I can't make it to MU on 23rd but will you please consider me for the next one. Sad

bigTillyMint · 09/02/2016 15:13

She's in. After another sleepless night, I do feel somewhat relieved and am hoping I can sleep again. At least I know she is safe and it is definitely what she wanted - even if she later decides it isn't she will be staying there or somewhere else if necessary!

motherinferior · 09/02/2016 15:35

Oh BTM, it must be a huge relief. Thanks

hattymattie · 09/02/2016 16:04

BTM - I'd be feeling very relieved too. At least you can sleep easy now.

CV - but I don't want a tasteless umbrella - I like my plain navy one

Crem - safe trip back. Horrible weather in Paris - it's going to be a shock for you.

magimedi · 09/02/2016 16:13

BTM - I am so pleased for you & her.

After a settling period I am sure she will be so much better - as will you.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 09/02/2016 16:34

BTM, phew for you and for your Mum. Hope things settle down into a new calm for you both in the not too distant...

Hatty, CV is spot on. You have to choose - not your first choice in looks / style or getting v cross and v wet when the little buggers darlings nick your umbrella. I bought a job lot of 4 delightful leopard print ones that are tasteless in a rather good way - funnily enough none of the menfolk has stolen "borrowed" them so far....
PS, good luck with the job hunting CV - shall we write you a glowing Crepey reference?

Crem, safe journey back from paradise!

Cremo · 09/02/2016 16:49

Thanks all!
Hatty, I am dreading re-entry to the cold.ShockI have woolly tights standing by and hat scarf and gloves. Plus ugly brolly natch.Wink
Hope to sleep on plane for a bit and arrive in Paris a bit less beachifed. ( wavy breeze dried curls and wind weathered visage) looking forward to smoothing myself outGrin
Night night

Lalsy · 09/02/2016 17:14

Oooh Crem, it looks so lovely. Have a good journey.

And BTM, phew, what a relief. You must feel wrung out, hope you get a good night's sleep. I know there may be ups and downs ahead but she will be safe and there will be people on hand - you won't be frantically rattling cages from hundreds of miles away.

Hatty, I erm, have labelled some things HANDS OFF but not things I take out of the house. I have tried buying bags and scarves that dd won't like. And then she does. Screeching relentlessly about it for several days is the only answer I have found.

herbaceous · 09/02/2016 17:31

We have about twelvety million black umbrellas, as DP Never takes one with him, and buys yet another one when the heavens open. See also mini cans of deodorant, and sellotape.

Last call for any crepeys fancying a spot of post-funeral lunch Up West. Unless I get invited to the wake, of course...

GiddyGiddyGoat · 09/02/2016 17:39

Would lurve to meet up with you Herbs, but no can do tomorrow...

bigTillyMint · 09/02/2016 17:40

Thanks everyone! Now need to tell her bro and sister-in-law. And various other jobs.
And get my head round going skiing on Saturday.

magimedi · 09/02/2016 17:44

Just spoken to DS, BTM. Lots of snow for the Aravis tonight!!

I think a holiday away is just what you need.

Blackduck · 09/02/2016 18:14

BTM such good news - I am so glad....

CointreauVersial · 09/02/2016 18:16

Hallelujah, BTM! What a relief. Here's hoping she settles in quickly. Has her stuff been moved in, or just the basics? Presume there will be a lot more to-ing and fro-ing after you get back from the slopes? Anyway, the important thing is, she's safe and being looked after, and you can enjoy your holiday instead of fretting every time she called.

DS has returned from Day 2 of work experience, still loving every minute. Not least because the client they visited today had a free, all-you-can-eat, open-all-hours ice cream stall in their main reception (manufacturer of a well-known brand). Grin Corporate life suddenly became a lot more appealing! And he was actually allowed to do a bit of filming himself, which pleased him no end.
