I think she has chosen her battles, and the house isn't one of them. I'd probably be the same, it has to be said. Which is probably why I find it irksome! OTOH, she does have two days off a week, and a cleaner.

I am not making any progress either. Trying to put some ideas together for potential course I could teach - a kind of 'top up your English' thing, concentrating on spelling and grammar. But instead I'm dicking about on FB, etc.

bigTillyMint · 18/01/2016 14:08

Herbs, a short break with just her - adults only - would probably be fine. The two families together? No chance!

I am certain there are many single mums of twins who work full-time with no cleaner, who keep their houses immaculate. Not that a house being immaculate is the be-all and end-all, just sayin'!

herbaceous · 18/01/2016 14:17

Well, indeed. I shared a tiny Centerparcs 'lodge' with her (L), the twins (as toddlers) and another couple and their two tiny children. Within half an hour of arriving the twins had strewn raisins all over the sitting room, emptied toys everywhere and smeared food all over the table. All fine, obvs, but L made no attempt to clear any of it up. Then if I did, felt I was being all PA and fussy. And I'm really NOT like that. My house is a bit of a state. Just not as much as hers!

herbaceous · 18/01/2016 15:10

Oh dear. I sound like a right bitch. She's v lovely in every other way!

Fuming over Hameron's latest wheeze - spending £20 million on teaching Muslim women English. Brilliant idea. How about not cutting all the classes that used to do that very thing? Not cutting FE budgets, where the classes had been taking place? Not cutting community learning, where the classes used to take place? Children's centres, where family learning went on, etc etc. Clueless berk.

motherinferior · 18/01/2016 15:30

Yes, I thought of you when I saw that. It boggles belief. Like his letter to his local council objecting to frontline cuts and asking couldn’t ‘back-office savings’ be made, to which the council leader pointed out a list of everything that had been cut already.

herbaceous · 18/01/2016 15:38

And why 'muslim'? What's religion got to do with language acquisition?

motherinferior · 18/01/2016 15:40

It’s also extremely indicative of someone who has absolutely no knowledge of and/or interest in genuine social care. I know he gets cut a lot of slack for his inevitable knowledge of some aspects of disability benefits (although he obviously didn’t depend on them). These classes have been running for bloody decades, either in community centres or in adult ed centres or provided by voluntary groups. Quite a lot of highly-skilled professionals actually know this field. Except because they’re not paid very much, Hamilton and Gideon think they must be ignorant peons.

herbaceous · 18/01/2016 15:43

I'm in an email group of ESOL professionals, who know 5,000 x more about this, the intricacies of cultural factors in teaching language, in how to engage marginalised communities, etc etc than Gideon and co can ever learn. But no-one asked them about this policy change.

wordassociationfootball · 18/01/2016 15:46

Brill title.

Wheezing in to say Beachy, Netgear wifi extenders are good.

I have bought lots of new sports wear and signed up to a gym that doesn't open til March. Meanwhile stuffing face with toast.

Lalsy · 18/01/2016 15:49

Good gym move, WAF Grin.

I am also not achieving much today.

bigTillyMint · 18/01/2016 16:19

Love it, WAFGrin

DS has a wifi extender in his room that seems to work a treat.

Have spoken again with v nice woman in SS who says DM won't get a SW till she can't manage Personal Care. Not sure that we aren't far from that.

motherinferior · 18/01/2016 16:33

I have managed my revamped feature on blind computer gamers….

Right. Saturday. BD, where are you coming from, and where are you leaving from? What sort of time? That way we can fix location and so on. Personally I’d quite like to opt for lunch, but that isn’t set in stone, if you want more time with your parents.

I am feeling quite crap and not like going singing later.

herbaceous · 18/01/2016 17:00

Good response re English classes from the main body. Here.

Blackduck · 18/01/2016 17:02

MI I can get anywhere in London really and will stay down at the folks Saturday night too so can be flexible on time. Lunch might be good if it suits you, MrsS, Molly and anyone else.

cressetmama · 18/01/2016 17:18

Love the title for the new thread and just popping in to say hi and remind you of my existence. I've been mostly on the perfume thread (waves to Cointreau) and faffing around with normal domesticity and DMIL's galloping memory loss; I fear that it's contagious, even third hand and by phone.

Collymollypuff · 18/01/2016 17:39

I would love lunch, please!

BTM, I wonder if you might need to ramp up your dmum's needs a bit? I'm afraid as an ex public service employee, tis the first thing that comes to my mind. Just, like, lay it on a bit thick. Blush

bigTillyMint · 18/01/2016 17:51

Molly, I am all too happy to lay it on thick, but she is fiercely independent and resists support from the carers as much as possible, unfortunately.

Just had some good news about DD. And some bad news about her. From the same teacher. She has just rung to say she is bringing a friend home with her from coaching. I wonder why...

motherinferior · 18/01/2016 18:10

How about Waterloo Wahaca? Or we could do the cava brunch at Blackfriars Camino - it's £30, though, and may not accommodate all needs.

motherinferior · 18/01/2016 18:14

I suspect I can't lure you to the very excellent South Indian in Peckham (although it's v easy to get to...)

Cremo · 18/01/2016 18:57

Hi again cressetmama! I know all about forgetfulness, unfortunately. Uncommonly known as Tramadol-Brain. I was making rice earlier and went to drain it, but hadn't actually put the rice in the water. Blush bloody eejit.Grin

I have a tummy bug now, so am variously employing Brian and elsewhere. Am attempting rice and carrots today as recommended by Pilatez Coach who allegedly knows about gut health.Saddeeply unpleasant.

Herbs you speak much truth about the English teaching and Camermoron. One could insert>> community arts for Community teaching. Sick making.
Unspeakable NI assembly halved the arts budget this fiscal year. They have NO clue how this affects 100s of people who are making positive contributions to their own education and changing entrenched opinions in communities . Makes me seethe.Angry

Blackduck · 18/01/2016 20:20

Bad today at home today. Dmum drove dbro over the edge... It's very trying.
Re Sat make plans that suit the rest of you and I will get there if I can - I think I am going to have to play things by ear a bit. It's all sounding very stressful.....

Cremo how was today?

I was Shock at the Cameron announcement re language.... What a.....

CointreauVersial · 18/01/2016 21:03

Sorry to hear that, BD.

DH and I have just popped over to see our shiny new leisure centre, about 5 minute's drive away. I don't think I can put it off much longer - need to Do Some Fitness. I am not feeling the love for pre-dawn ladyjogging in the pouring rain / frost.

bigTillyMint · 18/01/2016 21:53

Oh dear, BD. Wassup? Do you want to share the stress?

Cremo · 18/01/2016 22:06

Ach BD thanks for asking. It was more meh than screech.
But never mind that, sounds like things are tough for you with dmum.hope you can get some time for yourself on Saturday. Something to look forward to? Thanks

motherinferior · 19/01/2016 09:07

Who else is on for Sat?

Have dragged self to desk. In equivalent of PJs, and not feeling my most terrific, it must be said. But at least I made it to choir, unlike the poor music director who is really not well (we had a Supply Grin).

Cremo, I will spare you the details of own digestive disturbance but suffice it to say I'm off my food Shock.
