Very sad DD, new haircut please help!

My lovely DD had all her hair cut off yesterday. She's been thinking about it for ages so it wasn't a mad impulse.
She took a cute picture of an Anne Hathaway pixie cut with her. She also had some colour as she wanted to be blonder. She's very upset with how it looks and thinks is it is very middle aged and not pixie! I think she looks gorgeous but agree that the cut and colour isn't brilliant. It's so short though that we don't know how to change it...Are there any hairdressers out there who could advise? Can the cut be rescued without taking loads more off?? Please please help, I was so proud of her for being brave and going for a change and she's so upset.

I'm actually loving the fact that I get to have a sneak peek at what different MN's actually look like! Completely different to what I would have thought

If it makes your DD feel any better, I had a short haircut that was clipped at the back when I was a teen. It just needed the back tidying up so my DM got some clippers and started doing it. She then "slipped" and shaved a huge chunk out. She then refused to pay for someone to tidy it up Sad. It was awful, I'm so glad your DD has you to help her.

And no I don't think leaving it until tomorrow or having a day off school to get it fixed is a problem!

Mincedpie · 17/01/2016 20:00

I hope you've managed to get an appointment sorted for tomorrow, she will remember this and be forever grateful to you.

Please post 'after' pics Smile.

flashheartscanoe · 17/01/2016 20:16

Nothing at all has been open today but DD has been looking online and is going to call at 9am tomorrow to book something. All the pics.are useful, thanks. She's a good student and never misses school so I think it's OK. I'm glad its my day off. DH doesn't agree!
Her hair was waist length before this so it is quite a big deal. I will update tomorrow!

DH can bog off with his views on the matter.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 17/01/2016 20:37

Good luck with the new 'do. Looking forward to the update.

MidnightVelvetthe4th · 17/01/2016 20:37

Tell your dd that most women have had some kind of hair disaster. For me in my teens I wanted lovely squishy soft curls, I ended up with a perm that made it look like pubes!

I agree about getting it sorted tomorrow, appearance is a huge part of self esteem as a teen and making her go to school with it has zero benefits.

And yes please update, your poor dd x

Dungandbother · 17/01/2016 20:50

It's most likely the salon she went to allowed a trainee or Sat girl to do that to her hair.

There is no way a reputable salon should have allowed such poor colour to have happened. It should have been supervised.

I hugely applaud your decision to miss school and throw money at it.
You're an amazing mum.

Dungandbother · 17/01/2016 20:53

And once she gets it sorted, I always found that a small round brush or a small round hot brush instead of a hairdryer gave my roots at the crown the lift needed. Softened the ends when drying and then I waxed it the tips. So I had lift at the crown and not at the front.

Def ask stylist tomorrow for lesson on styling and drying as well as products. It from the salon just from Boots.

Blowninonabreeze · 17/01/2016 21:01

Good luck tomorrow

flashheartscanoe · 17/01/2016 21:08

Thank you!

ivykaty44 · 17/01/2016 21:09

I agree the colour is very stripy and the cut isn't what was asked for.

As others have said the hair is thick and needs shopping into and thinning out to lye much better

Hope you get it sorted

wizzler · 17/01/2016 21:13

Definitely take tomorrow morning off. I think its the colour which needs sorting most, and having had it bleached once, I would advise getting a professional to correct it rather then experiment at home

I wanted to say that you sound like a lovely mum, OP.

SoupDragon · 17/01/2016 21:19

DH can bog off with his views on the matter.

Yes, because God forbid the other parent be allowed to voice their opinion with regard to their own child Hmm

RainOhJoyus · 17/01/2016 21:19

Defintiely agree for a day off tomorrow, and I never thought I would advocate that!
Is defintiely the parting and the colour that makes it Claire balding, and i love Claire balding and think she looks fab, hairstyle and all.

fastdaytears · 17/01/2016 21:20

Yes, because God forbid the other parent be allowed to voice their opinion with regard to their own child

On this issue though, the DH in question doesn't seem to get it

Penguito · 17/01/2016 21:45

Looking forward to seeing the new do tomorro

TSSDNCOP · 17/01/2016 22:23

It's such a shame that it's gone do wrong.

Despite what's been said upthread, my sister and I have our very short hair done at Tony & Guy. I know that's anti MN but they're seriously great at Bluewater. I went in with long hair and said cut it, cut it short but not like Clare Balding. I shit you not.

My mum would have let me off school to get that fuck up sorted.

Mrsfrumble · 17/01/2016 22:30

Wow Hazey and Honey! As someone who regards her long, straight, mousy hair as a security blanket, I'm in awe of your bold, beautiful crops.

OP, you sound a lovely mum. I was teased at school after a bad haircut and I would have loved it my mum had taken charge like you are.

unimaginativename13 · 17/01/2016 22:37

Can I throw a spanner in the works?

NO hairdresser should be colouring anyone's hair under the age of 16 ( I'm guessing she is)

It's against EU regulations and NO hairdresser is insured for that.

Secondly MOST decent salon will ask for a skin test to be done 48 hours before ( if they are not the I would question them ESPECIALLY a colour correction on an underage girl) again it all part of the insurance process.

Please ring a salon to discuss a consultation, again any decent salon would not have the space for something like this at short notice.
Think of a tattooist who has a 3 month wait or one who can see you in a few hours.

Also whoever mentioned Cellys give them a huge wide birth. It's a £10 salon - you get what you pay for.

unimaginativename13 · 17/01/2016 22:39

In the meantime, wash in, blowdry it all forward with no parting, then push to the side with product. Honestly won't look half as bad.

AbbyCadabby · 17/01/2016 22:56

Mainly marking place so I can see the fix tomorrow, but also to say I am in the same boat cut-wise - had it done last week and hate hate hate it, but I was just gonna suck it up and wait for it to grow, but thanks to this thread I am going to find a good salon asap and get mine fixed. Good luck to your dd tomorrow.

AbbyCadabby · 17/01/2016 22:56

P.S. Nice garden!

PolovesTubbyCustard · 17/01/2016 23:00

I agree with all previous posters that a solid colour plus much shorter cut will look good.

Hope you get her sorted out tomorrow.

Pigeonpost · 17/01/2016 23:32

Your poor DD. I don't blame her for being mortified. I hope she's had a good play around with a brush and some styling products tonight and everything crossed for it being fixed tomorrow.

And as for Lweji banging on about why you haven't put a box colour on, you are entirely wise to wait and get someone who knows about hair colour to fix it. Not that I had a hair colouring disaster last year with a new hairdresser or anything... Blush

Herrerarerra · 17/01/2016 23:35

Really hope that you can get this sorted for her tomorrow. As some have said, a lot of hair salons close on Mondays but you might find that those in large towns and city centres may be open. And yes, a solid colour, a shorter cut (and it being thinned out) and styled so that it falls forward rather than back will look great! The highlights are seriously bad, how a hairdresser was satisfied with them I'll never understand.

I have short thick hair which has to be trimmed every 3-4 weeks and is thinned out all over. That product that I use is TIGI Bed Head Manipulator (you can buy it from Amazon, Ebay or some salons stock it), I only ever need to use a very small amount rubbed onto my fingers tips and then styled into place and it holds really well.
