How much would you spend on a nice bag?

Lately I have been thinking about purchasing a very expensive designer bag. It is around £1000, so it would be a huge investment. I really like it, but I don't know if a bag, albeit very nice, is ever worth spending so much money. I've never purchased such an expensive bag, the bags I already own are in the £200/300 territory.

What is the maximum you would be willing to spend on a bag? Do you think it ever makes sense to spend a lot on it?

Wouldn't consider more than around £300.

About £100 is my max, I get bored of them too quickly, and none is ever exactly right all the time.

I recently had an inheritance and considered buying a Mulberry bag but really can't bring myself to spend that sort of money. It's not an investment. It's money spent. Investments do at least have a chance of going up in value - handbags very rarely do.

However, people should do as they wish with their own money, of course.

It's lovely. Although mine is a dark navy not black.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/01/2016 22:13

If I had unlimited funds I'd spend a couple of grand on a Chanel one

But I don't so about 300 max (and happy to buy second hand for that)

£100.00 would be my maximum because bags are not my thing. Shoes, cars, clothes, makeup, toiletries are also not my thing.

I like spending my money on food, nights out, travel, weekends away.

I recently bought a bag from TK Max for £75.00.

It is my second bag. It is black. My other bag is brown and cost about the same, from Dune.

And agree it's not an investment. Vast majority depreciate.

That's a bad investment

I love the Bayswater. It's seriously gorgeous.

However I would be physically unable to hand over more than €50 for a bag. Sometimes, though, I go into the shops and stroke the expensive ones.

Cranagh · 16/01/2016 22:17

Under £500 is my comfort level. But if you have the money and you want it, go for it!

FuckyNell · 16/01/2016 22:17

We need a pictures of our bags thread. Shall I start one?

Motherwithflaws · 16/01/2016 22:27

I'd happily spend shitloads... On bags, shoes and coats

Ponymagic · 16/01/2016 22:29

My max is £300 but I will be getting some inheritance soon and am thinking of treating myself. Really like the mini Bayswater a pp has. Also, the Mini Marcie - does anyone have it? If so, is it too mini or a nice size? What fits in?

And yes, photos please Fucky, I love a bit of bag porn even if it's way out of my league. You spend what you can afford and enjoy it, be that £50 or £5000!

Ludways · 16/01/2016 22:31

I usually spend around £50, although I do have a couple at about £100, I have them because I need them for all my kids crap, otherwise I'd ram everything into pockets and go without. I'm not a bag person.

I have other vices that I spent lots of money on and don't feel the need to explain myself. It's your money, spend it on what makes you smile.

andadietcoke · 16/01/2016 22:33

I thought about the bench when I unpacked my last bag Wink

WhoisLucasHood · 16/01/2016 22:34

Not much, around £30.

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2016 22:34

Up to about £100 although I might spend more if I could find another one as good as my current work bag which is the perfect shape. It is looking a bit battered now but nothing I've seen matches up.

I spend about £1k on average. I have no need to justify the spend and still haven't considered a bench.Grin
