How do we style this dress (photo included)

I'm going to wear this dress to a winter wedding. I've only worn it in the summer with bare legs and high sandals. How do I style it? Can I wear opaques like that in the photo? I only have patent shoes, will they look odd if worn with opaques?

A better photo.

IT looks nice but personally I prefer suede shoes with opaques as the texture (if that's the right word!) looks the same and elongates the leg

Hopefully · 10/12/2015 14:52

I would wear opaques, but not black (grey/navy would be better IMO).

Do you have a jacket/wrap/other way of keeping warm?

burnishedsilver · 10/12/2015 15:27

I'd be inclined to wear the patent shoes but wear nude tights instead. If you prefer the black tights, a black jacket will pull the look together.

The yellow being worn with black tights doesn't look quite right to me whereas contrasted against your arms it looks great. Are bare legs an option? If not I'd go for nude tights.

herecomesthsun · 10/12/2015 16:20

Charcoal grey and yellow would be a good alternative, I think.

Notfootball · 10/12/2015 16:22

Thanks for your replies.

Fuzzballs I think you may be right about suede shoes, the opaques looked a bit odd with my patent ones.

Hopefully I have some navy/grey tights so I'll see what it looks like.

Squoosh I do agree that bare legs is best but would I look too summery? Nude tights for me would be American tan!

Burnished I like both of those photos, those shoes look suede. I have a black wrap and jacket I could use.

No dark tights. Dark rights are bare arms always looks weird. Nude rights, closed toe shoes or bare legs and open toe shoe. Bright coloured accessories. Hair up.

SixtyFootDoll · 10/12/2015 16:48

I'd go bare legged, you've got lovely skin colour. Hope you're not outdoors for long though.

EveryoneAnon · 10/12/2015 18:09

You look lovely OP. I would avoid such heavy black tights though. You wouldn't look odd in nude tights even in winter but it might feel odd cold and exposed unless you're down south.

rageagainsttheBIL · 10/12/2015 19:27

I think opaque black tights with that dress will make you look like a bee.

A very nice bee mind ;)

Notfootball · 10/12/2015 21:14

Thank you for the compliments Smile. Laughed at the bee reference!

I love the red lips contrast in that photo, I have some pale gold high sandals that could give me that look. I think I will go bare legged, the wedding takes place in a single venue so I wont freeze.

Its a beautiful dress but wont you be cold? It looks a summer dress so not really appropriate for winter. Do you have any winter dresses that you could wear instead?

Nadoligllaweneto · 10/12/2015 23:30

Brrrrr! I would freeze in that.

BrendaandEddie · 11/12/2015 05:52

No to it in winter. At all

it's just not right.

BrendaandEddie · 11/12/2015 05:53

Also. Yellow. Bare legged. Sandals. You're just going to look odd.

Notfootball · 11/12/2015 08:49

Oh you absolute rotters! Smile. What can I buy instead? 5'7, size 10-12, any recommendations please! I'm going shopping this morning.

Something with sleeves and a warmer fabric. You have a lovely figure so shouldn't be too hard Smile

Notfootball · 11/12/2015 19:35

Everything was lacy and/or glittery. I bought this but it comes up longer on me.

EveryoneAnon · 11/12/2015 19:45

Oh that will look lovely on you! (Judging by your first photo)

Nadoligllaweneto · 11/12/2015 20:51

Im presuming you mean that you will be wearing this to the evening after party and not as a wedding day outfit?

Notfootball · 11/12/2015 21:10

Nope Nadu, that's for all day. Could you link to something that you would suggest please?

Sorry, thought it was just for night.

Any of these styles appeal?
