Hoping someone can tell me if there is a thread for those of us who are "Autumns" as in Colour analysis. Thanks.

Actually seeing the CMB or hoc woman did me a favour as I was so underwhelmed and frankly pissed off with my experience that it led me into further exploration. I really enjoy it and have clothes in colours that suit me and am really getting to understand my style. The women I've met in the groups are fantastic, really supportive and caring. I ended up meeting one of them when I saw David Zyla; she came with me which was brilliant.

Interesting. I think my problem with sorting out my colours is that I am naturally a dark warm brown haired person but have been very light golden blond for years so analysing my colours is difficult. The websites say base it on your original colouring which to me is wrong. Going blind changes your face, lightens it up.

Going "blond" sorry

And I have dark olive green eyes and a face full of freckles

I had blonde highlights for years, then finally took the plunge and went cold turkey. Wow. Once the highlights had grown out it made me realise how wrong blonde was on me. I really believe that our naturals colours are the best and that we are so conditioned by hype, what we see on TV, in magazines etc etc. Very few people in the public eye (I absolutely despise the whole celebrity thing and refuse to buy into it in any way), are brave enough to appear as they really are. What is wrong with your natural colour which sounds as though it'd be beautiful with your dark olive eyes (sound amazing) and freckles? I don't agree that blonde lights people up. Yes it can change your face but often not in a good way. I just need to look at old photos of myself to see that. I had chemo last winter, my new hair is a bit darker which took a while to get used to but it really suits me. My old hair without the highlights was also way better with my eyes (dark green-blue) and my freckles. It's just what we're used to. The groups are great at giving objective opinion too from photos.

Hi all, im a dark autumn i think?? or it deep? I got these 2 coat/cardigans from phase eight and cant decide between them.

This electric blue and this forest green one.

Being an autumn I know I should go for the green one but I love the electric blue one and it doesn't seem to look too bad. I always feel a bit boring in autumnal shades even though I know some shades really do make me look better.

Would I regret keeping the blue one and will it make me look sallow and yellow in daylight (dont have great lighting at home)

In other news I got this burgundy cardigan and this jumper in olive which is more in keeping with my palette

Sorry for huge post!

Blodss · 10/11/2015 15:26

Cloud I had always wanted to be blond. When I look back at old photos I wished I had done it sooner. I look so much better and prettier. I think a lot of people look better with highlights or blonder hair as they get older. Women continuing to dye their hair darker as they get older is very aging . The face lights up with a few lowlights/highlights around it.

OP posts:
Blodss · 10/11/2015 16:01

Mow I like the blue one too.

Blodss · 10/11/2015 16:02

When you get older your sin tone changes too as well as your hair naturally so going a bit lighter is more flattering

OP posts:
cloudberry · 10/11/2015 16:27

That's very true about skin tone changing too. And it's about how you feel, and clearly blonde makes you feel so much better about yourself. I just wanted to give my experience re colour here as an alternative to the standard options. With reference to what colour would be better, I couldn't give an opinion without seeing you wearing them, mowglik. And that's why I find these other groups so helpful as we post pictures ..... Clearly that's not an option here that most people would be comfortable with. I definitely wouldn't.

Blodss · 10/11/2015 17:26

It does Cloud and thank you for your views.

I look so much better with grey hair than I ever did with reddish brown dyed (I was vvvv dark brown with red highlights in the summer, so reddish brown dye wasn't too far off). It's lifted and brightened up my face, and works a lot better with my autumn colours than it ever did with what I was wearing before (mainly black and purple). So I'm carrying on with no dye, despite only being mid 40s, as I like how I look at least I will once I lose another stoneWink

Blodss · 11/11/2015 02:19

Your hair sounds lovely MyGoods . I am on a weight loss journey too.

mowglik I absolutely love the dark green coat - such a beautiful colour. Unfortunately the style wouldn't suit me (I am short and "curvy") otherwise I'd be snapping that up.

cloudberry I was on a couple of FB groups to do with colour and have been draped with Sci/Art a few times - I was a Summer (online), Soft Autumn (online) and a Bright Spring (real life). According to HoC I am a Blue Autumn (I think that's what its called) and I have had more real life compliments when wearing colours from this palette than I have had with previous seasons.

I totally agree about natural hair colour, I stopped dyeing my hair years ago (mostly because I am lazy) and have had several people (mostly hairdressers) try to get me to dye my hair as it is 'dull' (nice! Grin). I like my hair colour, it has some nice natural highlights, and it suits me.

Hopefully · 11/11/2015 06:58

(Disclaimer: I am a HoC consultant): I think it's always possible to be diagnosed wrongly under any system - there will always be good consultants and crap consultants. I think any system that 'shows' the client rather than telling them, so they can see the transformation rather than just having to take the consultant's word for it is a positive one. Also, for me, colour is just a small part of what I do, and having researched every analysis system I can lay my hands on, I'm confident that HoC and Sci/art offer the best training, palettes, client experience etc. My clients usually come back to me for style, for wardrobe decluttering and for personal shopping (repeatedly), and they always tell me how much difference the entire process has made for them, so I think I'm getting something right. Grin

Have just ordered an identical replacement for a much beloved chan luu scarf that I bought when I first had my colours done and is now totally trashed. Am so looking forward to it arriving!

My other big expense atm is sending my knackered Anya Hindmarch handbag to a handbag repair clinic. I'm intrigued to see what they can do with it - it was a lovely burnt orangey rusty colour, but was really worn, a couple of the strap clips had snapped and the lining was filthy.

Hopefully · 11/11/2015 07:00

Ps: I am all about natural hair colour (mine is v v v dark ashy brown, which is why hair colour is a shit tool for analysing yourself), but I think you can easily go miles lifter or darker, but sticking in your palette (ie keeping it warm/golden/honey/reddish for an Autumn) will mean it doesn't jar with your skin tone or your clothes.

BabCNesbitt · 11/11/2015 09:36

Hopefully, that's interesting, what you said about showing rather than telling. When I had my colours done 2 years ago, I really didn't see the difference at all, and felt like I just had to go with what she was telling me! Since then, I've noticed that some of the colours in my palette are definitely better for me, but I'm still not fully reconciled to wearing the swampy colours that she said were ** for me (I'm "vibrant blue Autumn", apparently.)

Question for those who've done the style day, too - do you find it hard to combine your style with your palette? I'm meant to be a dramatic gamine, but many of the clothes in that style tend to be in much brighter, cooler colours.

Pupsiecola · 11/11/2015 13:23

Hopefully, post some before and after pics of your bag?!

mowglik · 11/11/2015 15:10

cloud I would love to post pics and get loads of opinions but am too shy!

I went with the electric blue coat in the end, the green probably looked better on me but I liked the standout colour and it didn't make me look ill or anything

Does anyone else really like colours that probably definitely dont suit them? I think I really like the winter palette and tend to find autumn colours a bit murky/dull. I would love to do a style/colour day

Hopefully · 11/11/2015 16:38

mowglik have you had your colours analysed? Although the Autumn palette has some very muddy colours, there are some really vibrant ones too. Fwiw, I look OK in some winter blues, they just don't go with anything else I own.

pupsi will do!

bab some styles work more instinctively with some seasons - autumns and summers find it easier to do natural styles, winter lends itself to dramatic styles. However, I do find (as a dramatic Autumn) that when I do find my colours and style is is SO good that it's worth holding out for - I have been waiting two years for the perfect investment biker jacket, for instance, and I'm so glad I saved up for the all saints one I finally bought.

wannanewone · 11/11/2015 18:06

Hopefully - do you still do your blog? If so, could you link please? I thought it was great, but somehow lost link.

Destinysdaughter · 11/11/2015 18:33

I had dark brown slightly reddish hair when I had my colours done 15 years ago but I'm now blonde as my hair is very grey. I find my Autumn colours suit me as it's more about your eye colour and skin tone, as they don't change. Find it hard to get the right shade of blonde though as I keep asking to be a warm golden blonde but it often ends up more cool whitish which is quite striking and grows out very subtlety but I don't think it's my best look!

Does anyone know if your colours actually change as you get older? I know for me, the softer colours work best ( still yellow based rather than cool based tho, that hasn't changed! ) and as I get older, I'm so glad I had them done as black is very harsh on older skin.

Destinysdaughter · 11/11/2015 18:37

Re this "I would love to post pics and get loads of opinions but am too shy!"

A suggestion, I am on 2 Facebook groups created from MN where people can post more private stuff. If people would like to be able to post photos of themselves etc, we could create a FB page from this thread if people would like that?

mowglik · 11/11/2015 18:38

Hopefully - I haven't had my colours analysed by a consultant but looked at online colour quizzes etc, plus I'm probably textbook autumn being of asian descent. I do see that some colours, brown, mustard, olive green etc really suit me but yet to reconcile just liking a colour vs wearing colours that work for me.

Having said that the electric blue isn't in the autumn palette but it looks nice on me Grin

Destinysdaughter · 11/11/2015 18:49

mowglik not to confuse you further, you may not be an autumn as it can depend on your precise skin tone and if electric blue really suits you, you may actually be a Winter!
