Hoping someone can tell me if there is a thread for those of us who are "Autumns" as in Colour analysis. Thanks.

I do think about it blodss. I'm mid brown with some red naturally. I am mid 40s and have a few greys, not too many, but of course they show up against my natural hair so I do have it coloured but close to my natural colour which I actually like. Going lighter as you age is supposed to be less aging though right? I like my brown hairs/brown eyes and I guess I worry about the colours I love still suiting me. Your experience is encouraging though! What about maintenance?

amazonianwoman · 06/11/2015 15:40

Joining in, newly diagnosed soft Autumn (today!). Most of my wardrobe is black/charcoal so most of it will have to go eventually...

I used to be full on ginger, then more strawberry blonde. The red has really faded out Sad It goes quite blonde in the sun, and I have warmer blonde highlights, which helps to disguise the increasing grey hairs. I'm trying to find the right colour to dye my hair nearer to its original colour but it was quite unique!

What do you all wear for a proper big night out? I've always worn black because it feels more appropriate, even though I know it isn't really my colour. I can't imagine going to clubs etc in chocolate brown (not that I do that often or even enjoy it! - clubs I mean)

Blodss · 06/11/2015 16:12

Pupsiecola. I have always done it myself and went from dark warm brown to light warm golden blond. Took a few goes initially and then I put lots of highlights all over so it was not a flat colour. Maintenance is just colouring it again every 6 weeks or so. My eyes are dark green and it really works. I also have a face full of freckles. Dark hair looked good on my but this just lights up my face and all the shadows disappear.

amazonianwoman Ooooo how exciting for you getting your colours done today. Black actually looks ok on me, I think that's because I am very blond so I don't get that washed out look. I usually pair it with camel.
If I am going out I love dark blue which seems to add more light to my face than black. Think they call it "midnight blue".

I bought this skirt a couple of weeks ago. I don't like a lot of White Stuff stuff, but this is so comfortable and flattering. Not sure it's particularly Autumnal (does have teal and a bit of beige and a mid blue)? The fabric (jersey) is perfect for me (hourglass so try to highlight the curves; I look enormous in stiffer fabrics). It's so easy to wear with thick tights and knee length boots but I reckon I could wear it in Spring too. Comes up big. I'm a 12 atm and I bought a 10.

Pupsiecola · 06/11/2015 16:33

oops

Pupsiecola · 06/11/2015 16:35

amazonian AFAIK charcoal is good? I use it as my black.

Pupsiecola · 06/11/2015 16:37

YY to that blue, and also a dark olive greeen as base colours.

Re hair, I used to have some blonde bits in my hair but it's really badly affected the condition in those places for some reason. I can imagine with green eyes you would look good as blonde or dark. I don't know that brown eyes and blonde hair would work for me.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 06/11/2015 17:03

I dyed some jeans chocolate brown, Dylon do a v good range of colours, bung in the machine and away you go Smile. Helpful hint if you like the style and fit, but not the colour.

Blodss · 06/11/2015 19:33

Pupsiecola I like your skirt but then I am a fan of White Stuff. I love their knitwear, bags and jewellery and have a couple of skirts too.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup Yes to dying clothes. I love doing it. I don't always get it right but that is half the fun :)

Blodss how do you get your brown hair warm blonde, is it with highlights? I have mousey brown hair with some highlights but it still looks drab to me. In the summer it looks lovely and goes a warmer blonde but now this time of year it's all faded back to mouse!

KittyB52 · 06/11/2015 21:05

Hello fellow Autumns! I was draped as an Autumn by HoC and I LOVE my colours. Stylewise, I am a Natural Ingenue, which I am a struggling to figure out a little.

There are loads of gorgeous colours about at the moment - I seem to be filling my wardrobe with navy, rust, and khaki. I have found a few things in Dorothy Perkins:

As for lipsticks, I like Barry M's 'Cor Balmy' tinted lipbalm in Trouble and Strife.

I am currently on the lookout for a dress for our work Christmas party. I am looking for the impossible - a dress that shows off my top half (I have good bazooms and a smallish waist) whilst hiding my bum and thighs. Ideally it'd have short or 3/4 sleeves and be just above knee length. It's all either high neck line, midi length or bodycon. Pfft.

amazonianwoman · 06/11/2015 21:21

Dying jeans! Bloody brilliant idea, why didn't I think of that! I'm aiming to lose 3 stone so don't want to buy too many clothes (and never manage to find cheap stuff when I do buy them - love Jigsaw, Ted Baker £££ stuff!) so think I could revamp half my wardrobe by dying it chocolate brown Grin

I was in John Lewis tonight, taking back 2 black jackets Grin, and it suddenly seemed full of khaki, bottle greens, rusty colours... It's amazing how it focuses your mind when you know what you're looking for rather than wandering aimlessly!

Feeling more inspired to lose weight now, but guess that's a different topic!

Blodss · 06/11/2015 21:47

amazonianwoman I am on a mission to lose 3 stone and have lost a stone and nearly a half since the end of June. Losing this has inspired me to sort my clothes out. Im not buying much and mostly using ebay at the moment.

Kitty love those colours and styles you have linked to.

Jemster I lightened my whole hair colour using a extra light golden blond hair colour which took it too a coppery blond. Then I put loads of blond highlights throughout until it reached the colour I wanted. That was years ago and now I just put a very light blond hair colour on the roots every 6 weeks.

Since you already have lighter brown hair maybe you could just do more hand drawn highlights throughout the hair

I'm a bit confused as to why navy is considered an Autumn colour. When I got my colours done, 15 years ago, i was diagnosed as a bright autumn. I was told that you are basically either blue based or yellow based and that as an Autumn, you need to look for yellow based colours. So turquoise, teal etc but not navy. This was with Colour me Beautiful, don't know if HoC has a different system?

amazonianwoman · 06/11/2015 22:46

Well done Blodss 1.5 stone is fantastic. I've only lost half a stone so far and can't even feel any difference yet. Aiming for a stone by Christmas.

I was advised against true navy, but a petrol navy or kind of deep teal navy would work.

Karcheer · 06/11/2015 23:05

It's a specific shade of navy and really hard to find apparently, a blue with a warm undertone, so not standard navy iykwim.

Blodss · 06/11/2015 23:28

Thanks amazonianwoman. Yes its petrel blue I think I meant.

Hello! Just running in and enjoying all the Autumn chat. I'm a HoC consultant, and I'm a blue Autumn (and a natural dramatic, for those that know the clothing personalities).

Re the navies/greys, really we are better in marine navy and taupe rather than grey, but charcoal and true navy are always going to be better than black, if you're really stuck, and will tone in better than black with your other colours. Worth persevering for a dark taupe/marine navy though.

Blodss · 07/11/2015 19:49

Hi Hopefully. How wonderful that your a HoC Consultant! Smile You must love your job.
Thanks for clearing up the "navy" confusion. It does look good on me (blond hair) as I suit darker strong colours. Grey can drain me although I do have some dark and light in my wardrobe. Helps if I wear a coral/red lipstick though or red scarf.

Aargh, typed loads & flipped to a new tab to check names of lippies & lost it. Maybelline 24hr Fire coral is good & forever coral, (I use them as a base with a tomato red lippy on top to max staying power).

Hello hopefully :)

Hair - I've gone warmer tones on highlights on my hair since being diagnosed. Occasionally copper/red which makes my skin look better but not conservative enough for me long term.

I need to lose about 5 stone but have piles of autumn clothes to slim into. Have lost a stone in last 5 weeks but will have a gain this week & probably next as excess partying with the in laws :)
