Hello crepeys. Have had a sticky couple of weeks, feeling very low, but I'm feeling better at the moment. Lalsy, thanks for asking about the meeting with dd's school. I actually marched in there the Friday before last and demanded to see someone and managed to see one of her two tutors (it's a job-share, which just complicates everything and enables the tutees to play one tutor off against another, afaics). There was some blethering about the HoY doing XYZ to impress upon dd that she needs to sort out her attendance, but it has taken them until yesterday to actually bother to talk to dd about it. The one bit of homework I have actually seen her doing this term - a French essay - was given an A. The deadline for handing in the form for retakes was last Friday. So she turned up at the locked office at 3.30pm and slides her form under the door... She is still persevering with driving lessons. I am still persevering with trying to keep my temper. I found this partic hard last Friday night, when she returned from a party at 3am and work us all up when she was cooking pasta at 3.30am.

I spent this morning visiting a very nice school, talking to very nice people. I am about to put in an application for a very nice job. I am having to accept that the sort of job I would like to do is unlikely to be found in the state sector in this area, due to changes in SEND provision and funding cuts.

Blackduck · 13/10/2015 16:45

Sorry to hear about all the illnesses and The hard time Stropps....
Here first week sans administrator and I am walk to walk meetings, one admin is doing her 'I'm really busy' and the other is tearing her hair out.

We did try to brainstorm process and will need to do more/be more radical and people are going to have to step up to the plate. It isn't easy and I have realised managing team change whilst going through team change is very very hard...

Ds is sailing tonight and dp is off up the pub to have a 'convo' with the new landlord - he of the no food, no card machine, miserable as son, barring children.....

Lalsy · 13/10/2015 16:52

Stropps, lovely to see you! That's quite some temper-keeping. I hope the A essay encourages her. From what you say, it seems a shame that the school doesn't offer a bit more structured support, knitting pastoral and academics together - hard for parents to fill that gap I think. Go for it on the job - you'd learn useful stuff, do a useful job, help your family through a sticky patch, and then who knows?

And Herbs, woo hoo on the job front. Get to an internet cafe and get your DBS in!

Lalsy · 13/10/2015 16:53

And [sprays keyboard with Dettol] get better soon everyone.

motherinferior · 13/10/2015 17:18

Stropps, go for the job.

I am busy wodging together more teaching notes but am at least ahead. Grin

motherinferior · 13/10/2015 17:30

ARRGH (mum related...new readers, my mum is both impossible and ill)....

So I ring. Apparently DM has been "very tired" according to dad. Has she told GP, in manner I have stressed she does if she feels at all off-colour? Of course not. Has my dad, who wants her to, rung anyway? Nope. "I won't without her consent."

I may commit matricide/partricide when I go up for her oncology meeting (what larks) on Thursday.

BeachysFlipFlops · 13/10/2015 18:14

Maybe it is a collage as it's an art course Smile
Well done Herbs.... You may need to learn a whole new Art language; etchings, carborundums, etc
Welcome back from RL Stropps, the A sounds very promising. And you sound stoic, managing driving lessons and job applications as well.

Chillywhippet · 13/10/2015 18:37

Yes hello. Normally on MN little and often but distracted by DD1 who came home from uni with mystery gynae issue. Just taking her back now. Seen GP who seems to have ruled out a few things. Which is good.

Last night fell asleep on sofa (bad habit) after interviewing 13 young hopefuls at work yesterday. So missed my MN fix.

The Chillywhippets, two of them, have been with us since January. They are 6 this month. They are well behaved unless they see a cat and thier idea of recall is stopping and waiting for me to catch up Hmm.

We became dog owners as DD3 really, really, really, wants to work in animal care (not on a whim, after lots of thought, having not owned dog before). Turns out walking the dogs and sitting with a dog head on my lap of an evening are two of the best bits of my day. Who knew? apart from all dog owners Grin

Cremo · 13/10/2015 18:47

Stropps you are nothing short of heroic. The tutor system at dds school sounds shambolic. Did she make the retake list in time? I do hope so. I hope the v.n. job people grab you with open arms and strong drink. I honestly don't know how you do it.Thanks

Yes Beachy, as you know I went to a Collage myself and can also help School Mistress Herbs with artistic terminologyGrin
I had to have a wee lie down this afternoon as head was on the verge of exploding. Feeling very sorry for self this evening, but hoping Matron will let me watch 'River' with Herr Skarsgaard. ( perv)Blush

Cremo · 13/10/2015 18:51

aw Chilly, I love a pet on my knee. Tis also the highlight of my day.
Sorry to hear dd unwell. Gynae things can be very hard to pin down, so Poor thing, that's miserable.
Hope it can be sorted soon for her.

BeachysFlipFlops · 13/10/2015 20:23

Someone just referred to me as FlipFlops on another thread - Confused - I didn't realise they were 'talking' to me!

hattymattie · 13/10/2015 20:38

Oy Flip Flops Smile. Which thread are you on?

Crem - hope your head is feeling a little better - it's horrible to feel out of sorts like that. Glad to hear all the other crepeys are perking up. I'm going to get a flu jab next week I think.

Hello Stropps - the 'A' for French is at least a positive thing. Hope she got her resit form in in time.

Here - I am surviving with no more than a mild cold although 5 children were off school this afternoon, which made the class very quiet. The temperature has plunged as it seems to here - literally in T shirts one week and padded anoraks the next.

bigTillyMint · 13/10/2015 20:54

Yes, an A is good Stropps - let's hope it spurs her on!

My DD casually mentioned that she got a very good mark for her History essay and the teacher used it as an example with the class the other day. Not only am I very proud of her for doing well, I am also so relieved that she is on the right tracks (at least at the moment) and that this has spurred her on a bit in the 3 other essay subjects she is taking too. However, she is currently struggling with an English Lit one and I had to offer advice. I very foolishly didn't take Eng Lit in favour of Chemistry, so what do I know?Confused

I am currently having a lot of trouble with my Tesco Clubcard Vouchers and have had to phone Tesco's 3 times so far. I will now have to wait until the morningAngry

Chillywhippet · 13/10/2015 21:28

MotherinferiorI have an impossible and ill MIL. Flowers

We try to do the right thing but it is wearing.

Cremo · 14/10/2015 08:40

BTM , that sound very positive for dd. Let's hope she's starting to get the idea. Sometimes it just takes a confidence boost I think.
What's up with the Tesco vouchers? I do find the whole system labyrinthine tbh. I also shudder a bit when they seem to know exactly what you've been up to and send related vouchers. All a bit Big Brother.

BeachysFlipFlops · 14/10/2015 08:43

It was a fascinating thread about Magimix's Smile In fact when I look at the last three threads I'm on they cover kitchen appliances, dog poo and knives for children Confused That's me in a nutshell....

Herbs, your IT woes are catching too. I've come home to no phone and no internet. Bit tricky as I'm working from home today! Honestly what kind of dh doesn't notice there's no internet. I'm off to camp in a friends kitchen....

Rosebag · 14/10/2015 09:23

stropps you are an example to us all. Good luck with the job pursuits. It seems some more opportunities are opening up. And if DD got an A she is obviously a clever girl who one day will come to realise it. There is hope. But when Ds1 developed a habit of cooking in the wee small hours, I very firmly put my foot down...there was no way. I couldn't sleep with the smell of fry ups drifting up the stairs when I had to be up a couple of hours later. That was a deal breaker for me. Many arguments were had. Angry

tilly that is also good news about DDs history. I guess time is needed for them to settle. Smile

Mi aaaargh re DM. chilly there are quite a few of us with sick, elderly parents who are driving us quite doolaly. The Crepeys have been a wonderful support to me in this respect.

Here, we are plodding on. I am having a quieter day having had two manic ones trying to fit in a bit of professional activity around too much domestic shite. I am looking forward to lovely mid morning coffee with my fab newish neighbours and their dog shortly. One ( not the dog ! ) Grin has her book launch coming up.

ConS phoned last night full of apologies about his 'go slow' ...we are trying to meet for writing next week. He is keeping an eye on DS2 for me who is well into band rehearsals for the show and I'm grateful, as DS seems a bit under confident at times...he can't get to all the rehearsals because of school hours. The actual piano is very easy and plonky but pianists can be quite solitary and he struggles a bit with the skills needed in ensemble playing. I am however unashamedly proud he's been given this opportunity ...ie to play with the big boys...not the youth band. Can I persuade any Crepeys to make the trip to the Norf when the run starts?

Ok laydeez. Hope ailing Crepeys are heeding sister Auriga and recovering. I am well now but plagued by early morning snot. Love to all xx

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/10/2015 09:39

Have cold, cough, temperature, and if that wasn't enough, seem to have raging thrush and a boil on my nethers.

Rosebag · 14/10/2015 10:03

Oh you poor thing, MrsS Thats wretched. Can someone run out for some Canestan for you? Healing vibes from me x

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/10/2015 10:15

I'm on my own and I've run out of Lem Sip too. Am using Daktarin on thrush (as found some in the hypochondriac's DH's medicine box) and it seems to be helping.

hattymattie · 14/10/2015 11:13

Mrs S - horrible - especially with no Lemsip. We always stock up for the winter when in the UK.

Winter has arrived - and it was 1.5°C this morning and sludgy icy stuff was stuck to the car windscreen. DD2 has still resolutely gone off in a little jacket!!

I woke up really early and look like Sister Death - I've covered myself in foundation and bronzer so now look like Orange Sister Death§

BTM - great news on the A - I always feel that if they can get one or two good marks under their belt then they can start climbing back up. My two both have big test weeks before half term. DS - fine as he's still in College but I just hope DD2 can pull some good marks out of the bag. On the plus side her Special Biology is going great, on the minus - she's still struggling with Maths in a class of geniuses.

Right off to the school now - which can only feel warmer than our house at the moment. I think I need to investigate my vest collection at the weekend.

herbaceous · 14/10/2015 11:58

I have broken out my Uniqlo heat tech tops, and shall not be taking them off until March. Marvellous things.

Am in library, supposedly sorting stuff out in absence of internet at home, but naturally dicking about on MN and FB. kicks self up arse

Just went into YET ANOTHER school to volunteer my services. This time a primary. And OMG, what a lovely lovely place. Really small, only one-form entry, with loads of facilities, an amazing atmosphere and lovely staff. I cannot wait to do my half-day a week there. Beginning to hope I don't get the FE job I'm interviewing for on Friday so I can do more volunteering!

I need new jeans. I don't have a single pair that fits. The local shops - New Look, DP and (god help me) BHS don't have anything that isn't flimsy and stretchy and skinny.

bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 11:59

Cremo, 4 calls later (too boring to go into) I have a code for the Eurotunnel ticket! Now I just need to "buy" it and then start the whole process again for a Wahanda voucher

HattyShock at temp there!
Fingers crossed for your DD.

MrsS, can't you send your lovely neighbour out for Lemsips?WinkGrin

I have made some rug and floor lamp purchases - looking forward to checking out how they look after work! Sadly still 7 1/2 weeks to wait for the sofa.

bigTillyMint · 14/10/2015 12:05

You see Herbs, primary teaching is fabWink!

Herbs, I have LOADS of jeans (mainly GAP, but also some good Tesco ones!) but I am intending to try some Levis in NYC (I think demi-curve?)

herbaceous · 14/10/2015 12:13

Ooh, Levis demi curve a great. I have a pair of those. Admittedly, they are the one pair that fits, but the cut ('straight', I belive) is just a little bit too mumsy. I keep wondering about getting them taken in...

And yes. I do fancy a bit of primary. Dear little things. For some reason I thought you were secondary...
