Anything but the C-word!

OP posts:

Herbs, so it could be running groups, etc. Supporting EAL and SEN maybe? Sounds like something you could definitely do. Scary teens though don't let me put you off!

addle · 22/09/2015 20:05

Hello all,

once again Rose, REALLY enjoyed the play. good luck with the next steps (and thought Jonno was marvellous too)

Herbs/Stropps/BTM - can you help maybe? doing this training stuff at work and have been asked by attendee if I can recommend books/resources/have tips for adult with dyslexia in the workplace who needs to write quite a lot for a range of people. She wants help with checking her work and approaching it in the first place but can only find stuff for younger children. ? would be v grateful

popping out again - sorry for the exploitation but look forward to seeing you loads of you at the w/e

BeachysFlipFlops · 22/09/2015 20:16

Well done Herbs, you are all so qualified and literary. I'm very proud of you all......

Well done Rose, sounds an excellent success. You know the man who was the Artistic Director at our local theatre, well he's leaving soon and is busy setting up his new theatre company in London...not sure how you make the approach though, don't you need an agent?

I'm watching Dr Foster on catch up on the train. Jeepers, it's like the animated version of the Relationship boards. I might well miss my stop.....

My DM Chelsea boots are as comfy as trainers, I think. Must admit, not sure I've had any trainers since school, but they are very very comfy!

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 20:22

Addle, so she is writing a book about what adults with dyslexia in the workplace can do to help themselves, or she needs help with writing the book because she is dyslexic?

Either way, I only know about books for childrenGrin

Hmmm. If it's spellings, there's spell-checkers. If it's organisation/content, then she will need help with getting all the different information into paragraphs/chapters of stuff that goes together? Then putting it into a readable form?

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2015 20:32

So the invalid is back. It's a Grade 1 tear. Out for 2-3 weeks at least, but apparently cycling's good for it, so that's handy - he cycles to school!

Lalsy · 22/09/2015 20:41

Ooooh DMs Chelsea boots good idea, I had a pair of them once and they were uber-comfy.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/09/2015 21:07

I think all of Johnny Boden's New British collection looks like a bad day at M&S, with a bit of everything from all of the ranges from "Classic" through "Indigo", "Autograph" and "Per Una."

Stropperella · 22/09/2015 21:53

I send the Boden catalogue straight to recycling these days. I tried getting them to remove me from their mailing list, but they're remarkably persistent. It is a waste of trees. However, I almost feel like pitching up at a "Boden shopping party" and trying that dress on for a laugh. I am sure it would not actually suit anyone, but especially not a short, sturdy, specky person like me. Grin

MI, very best of luck with being cool, calm and collected. Grin I'll bet you will have them hanging on your every word.

Lalsy, I am looking forward to seeing if there are any more answers to your trainers question, as I have the same prob. I have been in clown shoes more or less all summer and now find everything else too hurty for my back. Although my old el naturalista dumpy ankle boots seem ok.

BTM, oh dear, a Grade 1 tear doesn't sound good. Hope it knits together as it should and he doesn't get too antsy while he can't play. Dd is moaning because she is going to miss a biology field trip on Friday and she is supposed to be going out with some people from her French class last year tomorrow. She is still stationed on the sofa with her leg balanced on a pile of pillows on a footstool and is clutching an ice pack to her misshapen leg. Re: mansion parties - there are a lot of those. A consequence of an influx into the sixth form of a fairly large number of pupils from the various private schools, post-GCSE. Interestingly, the debauchery at those sorts of parties appears significantly worse than those at the more modest abodes of the majority of the people she was at school with previously.

Addle, I have only trained in working with primary/lower secondary pupils, but my recommendation would be that she looks at using assistive technology e.g. Dragon Dictate/Naturally Speaking and the like. There are also lots of apps developed specifically to help dyslexics. Maybe the website of the British Dyslexia Association might be of help, e.g. Technology

addle · 22/09/2015 22:08

Stropps and BTM, sorry about the various leg problems both sound v painful. also sorry I wasn't at all clear. She's a colleague who attended a training session I ran and she was looking for resources that could help her as someone who is dyslexic, beyond the tips/help we were offering the whole group on checking their work and proofreading. British Dyslexia Association good idea, I'll try there.

Herbs, congrats

re Boden, I just tried skipping through half an hour of S4C television of which I understood not a word, naturally, apart from 'mini Boden' ?!

Cremo · 22/09/2015 23:20

Well it's all supposed to be about trainers this season- with workwear, with pencil skirts, but I'd draw the line at that frightful frock. I am trying to like anything in that catalogue. Boden, thou hast spurned me. I have become friends with Zara ( as in shop rather than some randomer called Zara) Have a look, the fabrics are q naice.

BD, I missed out on VR because of timing, and secondly because it was worth diddly squat. Now having to deal with a a new job description, which they have changed quite a bit, but used language that makes it look like a slight redraft. We have been asked to comment on any problems we foresee with this. Ha!
Am only surviving the stress by remembering I will be away this weekend. Also sick of , but can't seem to stop mentioning it.

Blackduck · 23/09/2015 06:09

Hi all, just dropping in to say I am alive (just) - it seems every day brings another body blow. Now I am to be moved out of my office and I assume into the team office which will have a spare desk so one of my bosses can move in to watch me....... This is not something he wants or feels the need to do, this comes from further up.... It is turning into a personal fiefdom... (Is that the word I want?).

I feel a trip to the GP is on the cards...

However train is booked and I will be there!

Blackduck · 23/09/2015 06:10

Cremo :( double crap on job description front.

bigTillyMint · 23/09/2015 06:59

BD and Cremo, get to the GP's - life is too short.

hattymattie · 23/09/2015 07:49

Ha - my computer was telling me MN was still down - obvs I'm on it too much and it's trying to tell me something.

BD and Cremo - really bad news on job front - maybe BTM is right - BD - it just sounds as if you're stuck in an endless vortex. So frustrating.

Well crepies - commiserations to all the invalides - Grade 1 tear sounds bad - is that the lowest or highest on the spectrum? I have DS off school at the moment with the runs. I am sure I'm going to get it before Friday's interview - that would be just typical! I have actually swiped bleach across the computer keyboard. Herbs - your HLTA sounds much more high powered than mine - yet I have a job description that makes it looks like I'm running the show Confused.

I have enjoyed Pig Gate - although remembering my own student days and what drunken boys seem to get up to, plus the tales of jolly japes from DD1 - I don't find it particularly shocking or surprising. I do hate the way the DM lurks on the posh campuses hoping to get photos of future worthies in the gutter which they can then drag out of archives when appropriate.

I never saw the press at Newcastle Uni, which I note is the alma mater of Tim Farron as well as yours truly.Smile

Oh God - I can hear noises coming from upstairs which indicate I better get the bleach out again.

bigTillyMint · 23/09/2015 08:19

Hatty, I hope Brian's helping out!

hattymattie · 23/09/2015 08:22

He's there as a precaution BTM but he's made it to the bathroom so far Smile.

Blackduck · 23/09/2015 08:58

I knew someone who worked for the press who said they could pretty much pull out a compromising photo of anyone of note.....

It's not what he did its all that boys club stuff that goes along with that is the worry. There is a very good article on it on FB which is spot on.

motherinferior · 23/09/2015 09:20

I have to say I am rather glad many drunken indiscretions of my own have never been made public. (None involved pigs. Even live pigs.)

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/09/2015 09:22

this one BD?

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/09/2015 09:24

I don't think there are any career ending photos of me anywhere, but I do have several career-ending photos of some friends from their wild and mis-spent youth. But as they are my friends, they aren't going anywhere near the press. (One friend is very nervous about this, and always greets me with "Do you still have those photos?" Grin)

Blackduck · 23/09/2015 09:46

Yes MrsS - I think the points are made well....

magimedi · 23/09/2015 10:02

Great article, MrsS - sometimes I can't believe we live in the 21st century.

Am also very glad I was young & wild pre instant pics & social media!

Sympathy to all the invalids & the lovelorn.

No news from me, settling back post hols & missing the warm weather. But I am off to see PFGD next week so rushing round fulfilling pleas for marmite, PNB, baby stuff etc to take with us (they live in France).

hattymattie · 23/09/2015 10:08

MI and Mrs SGrin.

hattymattie · 23/09/2015 10:09

Oh and welcome back Magimedi

hattymattie · 23/09/2015 10:16

Just read article Mrs S - very interesting. Dont think Lord Ashcroft comes out if this very well either though.
