these ones. They're somewhere around 4 quid for the 3 pack.

I shall have a hunt for other options later on - just about to try and talk dd2 into a bath or shower.

FrustratedFrugal · 26/09/2015 18:09

The first line of treatment is a topical one that basically sloughs off the cells (think retin-A but stronger), I have just started it and don't know yet whether it will work. If not, there is cryotherapy (basically inducing a frostbite at the derm's office Confused). There are other scary options - if you are not squeamish, see here - those ugly ulcers are intentionally induced by the medication!

I'm avoiding most skincare because my upper lip is a bit raw and tingly atm. Only using spf and mineral makeup. This stuff was hard to diagnose, I thought that it was an allergic reaction or a coldsore. Thank god experts were able to figure it out!

Oh! Wow. Hopefully the cream will destroy the dodgy cells without the need for further intervention.

Sorry - I have another question, if I'm being too nosey tell me to shut up!

What made you get it checked out?

FrustratedFrugal · 26/09/2015 19:53

Lucysmam I've worn lipstick or lipgloss nearly all my life. This patch appeared on my lip about a month ago. It felt like a bit of tape stuck on my lip, dry and numb, so I was constantly aware of it, and because is was also constantly peeling, so it was no longer possible to apply lipstick. Apparently men are more at risk because they don't notice minor stuff like this at all.

Anyway, glycolic acid and other AHAs are extremely potent sun sensitizers as they slough off the dead cells that are our built-in first line of defense against the sun. Although glycolic acid seemed to suit my skin, don't think the cosmetic results were worth the eventual damage. So any acid toners out there, please do consider the potential side effects. I only used AHAs for
4-5 months and thought I had protected myself (hats, sunscreen, taking breaks during holidays), but it was not enough!

Sorry about hijacking. I'm trying to get this sorted out asap, and am even more religious about sunscreen than before...

Thanks for answering Frugal.

I'm strict with sunscreen anyway (my smallest is a very pale redhead) and try to show the girls a good example - I apply to the three of us when I get to the sunscreen step in my am routine.

I will invest in lipbalms with spf as well I think while I'm shopping. I hadn't considered potential damage to lips really.

wickedfairy · 27/09/2015 08:20

Frugal - sorry to hear about that and glad you at least are able to start tackling it. Scary. Thank you also for the warning - I have been using bha and am awaiting (still) the delivery of my cosrx aha.

I use the Biore sunscreen - do you think this is strong enough? I put a good sized blob on my face/neck but I will make sure I am extra diligent, due to your warning.

plasticbanana · 27/09/2015 09:04

Hi Frugal I'm really sorry to hear about your skin problem. May I ask why you think it was the AHAs that were responsible rather than general sun damage over the years? Did you put the AHA over your lips when you applied it?

derektheladyhamster · 27/09/2015 12:02

I've just bought the boots no 7 lip & eye screen, SPF 30 on the back of your comment frustrated. I hope your treatment works OK. I ordered my first cosrx aha this week. The lip screen should arrive first though. (Also reordered the biore sunscreen even though I'm nowhere near finishing mine. I don't want to be caught out without it)
My 2 teenage boys are now using my cosrx a-sol. It seems to be working really well on their skin. I love the fact it is moisturising and doesn't bleach pillows & towels!
Thanks to Angela, I've tried the missha bb cream samples, 21 is a perfect match to the extent I can hardly tell I'm wearing it. I'm not sure I prefer it to my holika bb cream yet though.

derektheladyhamster · 27/09/2015 12:06

Isn't it funny how a month ago I'd have been thrilled with my lack of spots. Now I'm upset at the condition of my skin, all those acne scars are really getting me down. I wonder if I'll ever be satisfied!

lucysmam · 27/09/2015 12:42

derek, I know the feeling Sad. I have many scars too. I have a fetching 'W' shaped one on my right cheek! Can only assume from finger nails digging into my skin.

I don't think there are many non - drastic options for scarring. But I have found, as my skin tone/texture improves, they are less noticeable.

FrustratedFrugal · 27/09/2015 20:00

Re glycolic acid and sun damage, I've been observing how I apply products. I am fairly small-featured and right-handed and seem to accidentally hit my right upper lip with the acid pad - the sun damage is right in that spot. This area is really easy to miss when applying sunscreen as I don't want to taste them and I also don't want to overdo lipliner and lipstick. So I'm pretty sure a few millimeters of skin have been exposed to glycolic acid a lot without proper sun protection. I've lived in sunny countries for a decade and am naturally blonde and pale, but this thing actually popped up in August when I was back in Scandinavia enjoying the endless sunny days here. Of course it could be cumulative sun damage, but this was my first year with glycolic acid, and generally people tend to get actinic cheilitis on their lower lip. BHAs seem safer so I will limit AHA use to the sunless season from now on. So do pile on some SPF!

Well after 4 months of testing various bb creams i am still searching for my holy grail bb cream. I just want to find it and I will stay loyal!

My skin type is oily and i like medium to full coverage. Have any of you ladies with similar skin type/coverage preference found theirs yet?

lucysmam · 27/09/2015 22:06

What have you tried Coconut?

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:12

Ive tried the clearing holika holika, two diffetent misshas - the signature and the other one, cant remember the name, dr jart silver, tony moly cotton one, liole sample in pink. That might be everything. Quite a few Blush

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:14

Missha perfect cover is the other one. They have all been ok on application, but i'm an oil slick by lunch time Sad

mowglik · 27/09/2015 22:16

coconut I have oily skin and like medium coverage and have bought full sizes of missha perfect cover and BRTC gold caviar bb cream. Enjoying using both of them though they are not perfect matches colour wise

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:16

Ive just bought the innisfree no sebum powder for over my bb cream to set it, so this might help a bit. Although i would love my bb cream to also work for me.

mowglik · 27/09/2015 22:17

Cross post! Have you tried powdering before and after? It's a bit faffy with a bb cream as the cream doesn't spread as easily but it works to keep my face less oily

lucysmam · 27/09/2015 22:18

I've seen the Mizon snail bb mentioned a few times on reddit as giving decent coverage.

I wonder if something in your routine is contributing to the oilyness maybe though. I was really oily but it's got loads better since starting my AB routine.

Still have to blot with oil absorbing papers or dust with the no sebum powder before afternoon pick up though.

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:19

i'll check out the gold caviar one mowglik thanks. The perfect cover was ok, nothing great on my skin though.

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:22

My morning routine is pretty drying. Micellar water, fte, vit c serum, biore watery essence sun screen, etude hoise green base, bb cream to be exact! I take my jolse oil absorbing sheets to work - brilliant by the way. I am totally reliant on them!

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:24

I even use galactomyces 95 every night which is supposed to help combat Oil. Maybe i need to use am instead?

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:25

Will check out mizon snail too lucysmam thank you.

lucysmam · 27/09/2015 22:26

I wonder if a moisturising step or two might help a bit? Maybe an essence or emulsion. Or even a hydrating toner if you don't want heavier layers.

CoconutAmericano · 27/09/2015 22:29

I have hado labo lotion i use every pm lucysmam. Should i try this am? Although i am fairly rushed in the mornings (6:30 am start). Less steps the better in the morning to be honest!
